Magnolia Parish Detectives Dawn Luke and London Carter are called to investigate a strange burglary at a local clothing store. All of the female mannequins have been stolen, but their clothes have been left behind. As though the theft weren't strange enough, the case becomes even more bizarre when some of the stolen property turns up in a sugarcane field, but riddled with bullets.
It becomes clear that the burglary is part of a larger scheme, and while they're trying to figure out what that might be, they receive a report of a body found in a ditch. Now, it's a race against the clock to solve the mystery, but they might be too late to save more unsuspecting victims.

THIS WAS HARD TO READ I FELT SO BAD FOR LONDON AND THE VICTIM. I WAS WORRIED HE WOULDN'T MAKE IT OUT OF THIS ONE. I HAD MOST OF THIS FIGURED OUT BECAUSE I REALLY LISTEN WHEN LONDON WAS TALKING TO ONE OF THE CHARACTERS. WHENEVER I'M READING LONDON, I TRY TO STAY FOCUSED ON INTERACTIONS AND CONVERSATIONS BECAUSE LATER ON IT'LL HELP WHEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO-DONE-IT. ;D
I always appreciate a title with a double meaning. This one was a tad misleading, though it still worked on some level.
The plots of this series continue to get darker. If the Clint Wolf series was Law & Order, the London Carter series is Law & Order: SVU. It’s the same world with a similar flavor, but everything is a little more disturbing.
It took me a while to figure out how the first chapter’s murder in a different state could be related to the local theft of mannequins, but the pieces finally come together before the climax. The most important clue stuck out like a beacon when I first saw it, then I forgot all about it until the end. All told, it was a solid mystery, and we continue to learn more about the characters and more about sniping, both of which (to me) are positives.
I have to detract half a star (to 3.5) because this installment needs a thorough edit. I overlook a lot of issues until I reach my quota, and this one exceeded it more than the other books do. Not enough to sully the enjoyment, but enough to make me notice. Even so, it won’t stop me from reading the next one.
Another great book on London, Dawn and the teams latest case. When mannequins are stolen from a local store, everyone thinks it was just kids messing around. When they start finding them in field with bullet holes it becomes clear that they were stolen to use as target practice for long distance shooting. Who is the intended victim and how long do they have to find and stop this sniper before they put their skills into the real world.
Can't put these books down. Read all the Clint Wolf series and almost finished with London Carter series.
Mr Bourg you are an amazing writer! I feel like I am right there in the book. Hopefully there's more to come because I don't know what I will read if I can't read your stories.
As always, Mr. Bourg has delivered yet another narrative that I found hard to put down. If you're looking for a challenging, suspenseful puzzle that keeps you guessing until the end, this is the book for you. I'm looking forward to the next one.
I can't wait till the next book comes September. The storyline is superior; the twists and turns of the story or intriguing one of my favorite authors.
BJ is one of my absolute favourite writers, just seeing his name on the cover makes it a must read. I have never read anything by him that is not worth more than 5 stars. Stop wondering, and start reading, you will not be disappointed.
OMG. Could not put this book down. This book is full of thrills and intrigue. I loved this book. Can't wait till the next book comes out. I highly recommend this book and series.
Finding out what was going on at the ER very disturbing, but reading the book trying to figure out who the shooter was and what their motive was, was very interesting. It was a good book that was hard put down.
Always good reads from B J Bourg, books you just can’t put down. Extremely well written and your left with wanting more, feeling bored with other books that aren’t as good, as interesting or as well written.
As always constantly gripping holding you till the very end, never a disappointment, start to finish non stop can't get enough not can you put the book down until you finish the last sentence. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
Definitely different in the inclinations of the bad guy and the difficulties in tracking him down. From the first to the end, one feels the frustration of the police officers as they follow mostly hunches to get to a final point.
I couldn’t put it down from beginning to end. Rapture has many murders several suspects and enough guilt to go around the block several times. London is engaged to be married and he hopes to get there on time. Read it if violence doesn’t scare you. Recommended.
I really enjoyed this book. It had so many twists. At times I thought it got a little slow but he certainly made up for it in the end! Don’t miss it. Twisted.
Another great installment in one of my favorite series. Mr. Bourg is an exceptionally talented story-teller. Looking forward to the next London Carter book!
