The ESV Grow! Bible is designed specifically to reach children ages 8-12 for the time between when they use a children's Bible and a more advanced Bible. Coupling the full ESV text with many helpful features, this is a Bible that young students can call their own.
The ESV Grow! Bible comes with all-new features to help children learn and understand God's Word. Nearly every other page features a "W Question," boxes answering the who, what, where, when, or why of a text--basic questions a child might have while reading. Introductions to each Bible book, charts, and maps help young readers understand the themes, characters, and context of Scripture. 45 "Cross Connections" explain how certain Bible passages point to Christ and 90 "4U" sections explain and apply texts to the child's life. In addition, articles about Jesus and the teachings of the Christian faith help children understand important theological concepts.
Children will find the ESV Grow! Bible full of interesting features and parents will appreciate that their kids can explore the full Bible text themselves. A perfect Bible to transition from the Seek and Find Bible to the Student Study Bible, the ESV Grow! Bible connects young readers with the beauty and majesty of God's Word.
Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
Age range: 8 – 12 This Bible is meant to be the next step up from the Seek and Find Bible for older elementary children. Like the Seek and Find Bible, this Bible contains the actual, unabridged ESV text along with helpful tools. There are no simpler retellings of stories as in the Seek and Find Bible which makes the Bible easier to navigate. Boxes throughout answer who, what, when, where, why or how details about a story. For example, in Exodus 14 there is a “When” box: “When did the Exodus occur? In the year 1446 B.C., when Moses was 80 years old.” Other features like articles, charts, introductions (to the Bible, to individual books and to specific sections), a glossary, timelines, and maps also help children understand what they read. My favorite addition is a section called “Cross Connection” that pops up occasionally to relate the story to Jesus. For example, in Exodus 12, a “Cross Connection” box relates the first Passover to Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. There are also “4U” sidebars, aimed at making a personal connection to the scripture, that encourage reflection. The illustrations are repeats of what appears in the Seek and Find Bible, though in this Bible they are small and within the text. They are realistic, sort of. The people are white, windswept, gorgeous and soap opera-y which is a bit distracting.

I will say that while I enjoy my KJV the ESV is the next version that I enjoy using when I’m studying God’s Word, so imagine my delight when I received the Grow! Bible from Crossway. The ESV is an easy to read and understand translation which is great for children ages 8 and up to help them in knowing and applying Scriptures to their life. There are many features that make this Bible applicable to today’s Christian child:
Who, What, Where, When, Why and How – these little boxes will give facts or help answer questions that the child may have while reading. 4U (For You) – it means what it says, these boxes will help the child in understanding what and how exactly those Scriptures relate back to them on a personal level. Cross Connection – this will show the child how God has shown the power of the Cross from the beginning of time. Articles and Charts – extra information found all throughout, such as Parables of Christ, God’s Family Tree, the Christian Church Year, and more. Section and Book Introductions Glossary Timelines and Maps
My oldest has been using this Bible and she enjoys it because it’s easy to find the Book she is looking for and all the little ‘extras’ give her (and me) some deeper understanding of what she is reading. The print is also slightly larger than other Bibles, making it easy for children to read. There are some very beautiful illustrations also scattered throughout the Bible, which helps keep the child focused on the reading. If you are looking for a Bible to aid your child in their study of the Bible then the ESV Bible will be a great help as they build up their knowledge of the Lord.

The Lenten season celebrates the life, death and resurrection of Christ with a triumphant conclusion Easter Sunday. While there is nothing wrong with the celebration of Easter with Easter egg hunts and baskets the focus on fun may lessen the holy event. Including a Bible in an Easter basket is a gentle reminder of what Easter is really all about.
And there is no better Bible than Crossway’s 2011 ESV Grow! Bible for preteens, 8-12 year-olds and teens. I also think adults would like some of the bible features, such as the timelines in the back of the book that connect the dots and make placement of events and people easy to follow. The English Standard translation, with black on white print and 9.5 font is very easy to read and understand.
