In today's fast changing world with the rise of Gen Z culture people are moving towards purpose and meaning in their jobs and businesses. While years ago it was a norm to search security and money in a job, today most people look for meaningful pursuits. Backed with contemporary research from psychology, philosophy, management and business, expert insights and over two decades of experience in the field the author demonstrates how you can find your purpose and be more engaged at work.
'Purposeful' is a self-help book that tries to bring the best in you while you climb your professional ladder with zeal. The rat race is real and work hassle gets the best of us, still many fall in love with what they do, the author thus wrote this book, cumulatively explaining what brings us joy and satisfaction in work while we take purposeful decisions. In this book you can expect a well crafted, easy to understand theory that explains most of the phenomena related to work life. This book just helps in finding that right meaning and purpose for all of us with its in depth analysis on work-life psychology backed by research and little worksheets for us to figure out our positions in this paradigm. The theories are often described along with illustrated charts. Although it's a really good book, the author had a great idea writing this book, but it lacks newness in terms of information. Most principles are common and reiterated but we get to know about some theories.
Writing style is good. It's about 200 pages but doesn't feel like long with short chapters. And the chapters are well thought out. The little worksheets with their mindful questions are really helpful, they are good for self reflection from time to time. A good book to start with for a beginner.

One of the easiest ways to find one’s larger purpose is to connect with the purpose of the organization or the profession that we serve.”
What do you think? 🤔
Should there be any connection between your purpose and that of your organization to succeed?
Employee engagement is often overlooked in certain organizations. According to data 60%-70% are not engaged at work. People don’t feel that the organization is adding any value to their life. While engaged employees see themselves in greater positions in the organizations, disengaged employees feel hurt, directionless, and disinterested. Although compensation might be exciting for these disengaged people, they are wrecked emotionally and mentally which results in quitting for better opportunities outside of the organization.
The author says disengagement hurts the individuals at the workplace more than it does organizations. And hence, the author has come up with this book called Purposeful: Finding greater meaning and engagement at work which gives practical and useful suggestions to employees/readers as to how to be more engaged in the workplace. The book solves questions such as how to become more in control of engagement and be purposeful at the workplace, what drives disengagement at the workplace, and how to respond to it.
Sandeep K. Krishnan is the CEO of People Business, a leading global consulting firm. We all have some purpose on this earth. Their is a saying “Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while working.”
Their is a term called professional commitment which is to be followed by employees and employers and this book actually tells you how to be more engaged at work. Their is hype created for people working 9-5 but the people who offers their best working 9-5 gives the utmost results to big companies. I have worked 9-6 in the company called Teleperformance for 6 months. I was excited at the first but after 2 months I felt like this is not for me, I can do something else, which is good for me. I started getting disengaged with the work and it started showing in my results because I didn’t have an actual purpose to grow in the company. I merely came for experience. I didn’t value money and I didn’t believe in savings and investment and that made me quit the company in 6 months. The thing that discouraged me the most was biased culture, people who were working with me stood at a higher level which ultimately made me feel inferior.
Employers and employees both should read this book in order to find purpose at work.
The important point to note is GOAL+ CAUSE/ MEANING = PURPOSE
This book should be read by every level of person working above and beyond someone. This book should be used as a subject in Human Resources Management.
- For any organization or business to be stable and profitable, it needs to have a well-defined mission and objectives, both for the long-term and the short-term. This ensures continuity and growth. The same applies at the individual level. Every person needs to decide his/her purpose for doing anything, be it spiritual growth, start-up, marriage, etc. If every action is well-thought and the purpose is clear, it is easy to execute it and ensure greater chances of success.

He explains the cultural, philosophical, and spiritual features of work. He also stresses the fact that playing the blame game is quite unhealthy. It hinders the ability to think big and creatively. - He briefly focuses on the importance of developing confidence, taking responsibility, working hard, and developing other skills such as leadership, management, etc. There are several interviews with well-known personalities that have been included in the book. "Despite outstanding academic and professional accomplishments, women who experience the imposter phenomenon persist in believing that they are really not bright and have fooled anyone who thinks otherwise."
'Purposeful' by Sandeep K. Krishnan is a book that explores the world of working and earning and finding engagement and satisfaction while doing so. It dives into multiple concepts that can help organisations and their employees realise their place and engagement level.
As someone who has recently joined the corporate work culture, this book was very interesting. It helped me understand a lot of things, especially regarding my involvement or what I thought my position in the company is. Honestly, I took a long time to read this book because, for me, it is not a fast read. I will lose the book's very essence if I try to read it just to complete it. It did indeed show a different side to working. I often read a chapter when I felt demotivated; surprisingly, this helped.
Although this book seemed to become very monotonous sometimes. I lost interest in reading it, but it was better when I read it at a slower pace. I feel this book is a must-read for executives and HRs. It can guide them to help their employees and rectify mistakes that result in a dissatisfied working environment. For employees, it's a good book to explore their own motivations and inspirations, and what works for them.
For an individual to live the most important thing that can keep him constantly boosted is motivation. One can puke out his best only after discovering his PURPOSE to run behind those tasks.

This book is a good choice for working professionals because in this book it has explained how we can find purpose in our work. The author has also discussed in this book how a decent employee should be. What should be the forte of it? Two classifications of employees have been discussed in this book. First, they are those who are engaged in their company and company prosperity. Others are those who are not much interested in their company, they are always trying to find a better job.
This book provides you with the right guidance and suggestions on how to become a good employee and be most engaged in your company. Our perspective and purpose hold a particularly important place in the workplace because it influences our company. Whether it is despondent or positive both have their different effects. Thinking of every employee is different. Some employers think about the advancement of their company while some think about their wealth.

The activity at the end of each chapter makes the book exciting and allows us to reflect on our own experiences at work. I loved how there was an exclusive activity-based chapter towards the end. The data and statistics provided a clearer vision. To top it off, interviews from famous personalities like Harish Bhat (chairman of Tata coffee ltd), Prasanth Nair (ex-IAS officer, Kerala), Dr. Anand Deshpande (founder, director and chairman of Persistent Systems) and Nitin Paranjpe (Unilever's chief operating officer) were inspiring and insightful.
