I'm a happily married mom of one little miracle and when not trying to channel Martha Stewart, Supernanny, and be a great employee, family historian and photographer, I'm trying for the elusive second sale.
Rico and Anna grew up in a tough neigbourhood in Miami, where violence and drugs were very common and both wanted a different life. They were friends and then became more and dated while Rico was enlisted, when he came back they became lovers, but one day Rico accused Anna of cheating and walked away. Anna was hurt that Rico could believe something like that of her since they had known each other all their lives. Anna's mother threw her out and she was pregnant with his twins but she made a good life for herself with her art. She attends Rico's funeral where Rico's mother is also there, it was Rico's mother who lied to him, but she didn't mean it in the manner Rico took it, she said it since she lost his twin and didn't want to lose him to violence too.
It's been almost two years since his funeral. Anna has mixed feeling about him, on one hand she still loves him but knows that he never saw her and kept a lot of things from her, they were young and not together that much. She stays with her two kids and Rico's mother who she has forgiven. A new man named Gage moves in next door, he attracts her which is a change for her since no man has made her feel that old love and also reminds her of Rico.
Well he is Rico and he is back because there is a threat to his family from the people who almost killed him. Rico has forgiven Anna for what he thought was her cheating, they were too young. He wants a chance to be with his family and kids again. He tells her pretty soon who he is since danger comes calling.
My problem, I couldn't connect with the book that much. I found Anna too forgiving I guess, not that she didn't give him a hard time but the next moment she felt guilty. She wants to hear it from him what he feels for her that is why she doesn't immediately tell him the truth about his mother's lies. I can't point out what was lacking but forgiveness and acceptance came too soon for me.
