Lovers' Leap #2

Twice Upon a Time

Rate this book
When Lara and Reece arrive at their next leap to the past, she discovers her lover is missing more than his pants. How are they supposed to help a eunuch and a princess find love? And who would have believed that a harem is one of the most dangerous places on Earth? Death threats. Group sex. Sensual massage. Okay, so it isn't all bad, but managing a love affair with one man can be a challenge. With two of them? And a woman? Three days is enough of that experience for Lara. She's relieved when they leave that complex relationship behind until she finds there isn't love in Hana's heart for the handsome samurai beneath her blade, but vengeance. He's convinced she's his soul-mate. She's convinced he needs to die. Can he convince her to make love not war?

On the run through time, attempting to escape a man who is hell-bent on Lara’s lack-of a-future becoming a reality, the couple must leap from one time and place to another just to stay alive. In the second volume of this sexy and humorous new series, Lara and Reece share an existence with a harem eunuch and a spoiled Turkish princess and then with an honorable samurai and the brave ninja he knows is fated to be his true love.

Twice Upon a Time is the second in the Lovers' Leap series of serial novellas.

Contains explicit language and sexual situations including bondage and domination, m/f/m, m/f/m/f, f/f, and mild m/m scenes.

Combining her love for romantic fiction and rock ‘n roll, Olivia Cunning writes erotic romance centered around rock musicians. Raised on hard rock music from the cradle, she attended her first Styx concert at age six and fell instantly in love with live music. She's been known to travel over a thousand miles just to see a favorite band in concert. As a teen, she discovered her second love, romantic fiction -- first, voraciously reading steamy romance novels and then penning her own. Growing up as the daughter of a career soldier, she's lived all over the country and overseas. She recently moved to Galveston, Texas.

My Opinion:
Olivia doesn’t disappoint in this second in her series of Lover’s Leap. I literally couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed learning some of Reece and Laura’s background this time around. The story starts out with how they first started leaping. And the secret that Reece is keeping from Laura. The book does have some explicit sexual scenes in it but the author tries to keep it more personal with Laura and Reece directing the scenes. Again, I found the book delightful and funny. Reece’s secret can’t be held back much longer. I can’t wait for the next in the series to find out what happens. Does true love stand not only the test of time by leaping in the past but Reece’s lies? I also, want to know what BIG secret Reece is keeping. OOOO Olivia knows how to keep you hanging and waiting for more. You will find the tale of Laura being a princess written so well you thought you were there. It was fantastically written and well thought out. The Samurai story wasn’t as good to me but it wasn’t bad. Most of the book did revolve around the first leap. Thanks to Olivia for writing another great tale!
I give Twice Upon a Time (Lovers’ Leap) 4.5 of 5 Stars!

Reece and Lara are jumping through time trying to escape Reece's partner, Carl, with the aide of an ancient medallion which they have half of. As they jump through time every three days, they help a couple work through whatever issue is keeping them apart. In this installment of the series, Reece and Lara spend quite a bit of the book in a Mediterranean harem where a Governor's wife is in jeopardy because of a jealous first wife. After Lara and Reece are able to convince the Governor of his wife's treachery, they jump to ancient Japan to a Samurai camp where they must help a samurai and the woman determined to kill him work out their differences.

If you're a person who doesn't mind f/f/m/m sex in your books, than you'll have no issues with Reece and Lara's jump into the Mediterranean harem they find themselves in at the beginning of Twice Upon a Time. While the relationship between the Governor, his wife and their servants was crucial to what was happening in that particular storyline, it was the relationship between Reece and Laura that had your focus as it was tested because of what was happening with the individuals in whose bodies they are currently inhabiting. Jealousy and trust were facets to their relationship that were tested and which ate at Reece.

But it's when they jump to Japan that I feel they were really tested. Hana, the woman who wants to kill the samurai as an act of revenge for her brother's death, has trust issues. Trust in the samurai who intrigues her, even when she wants to kill him. Trust in the other men in the camp. And trust in herself to stick with her plan. It's that lack of trust and Lara's comments about how she could never be in a relationship with a man she doesn't trust that causes turmoil for Reece. He's been lying about what really happened to Laura and realizes their entire "new" relationship is built off that lie.

I loved the prologue as it gave us a little more insight into what happened that caused Laura to die. I would have liked more information into why Reece did what he did and what is so awful in his past that he's afraid to reveal it. I'm hoping we get more of that as we leap into the next book, which appears to take place on a pirate ship (fun!!).

Not as good as the first Loving on Borrowed Time :|.

Twice Upon a Time is the second book of Lover Leap series by Olivia Cunning. Since the events of this book is continued from the first, so we must read the first book, Loving on Borrowed Time. The main story is about a sexy archaelogist Reece Jericho who found an ancient amulet and travel back one year before to meet his fiancee, Lara Kensington. He do it to prevent Lara's death. And after that they will leap trough many times, inhabit a stranger body and often solve their problem, especially in romance. The first book make them leap to medieval Viking and Victorian English. In this book, they leap to Turkish harem place in Ottoman era and Japan when samurai and ninja exist.

My problem with this book is the amount of sex scene. While the first is just on steamy level (with many teasing and sexual tension), this one considered as erotica. Not surprised if we know that Olivia Cunning herself is erotica author. But the content really bother me. There's f/f, m/f//f, m/f/m/f and mild m/m. Also a mild bondage and submission. I think its a surprise if we compare with the previous. Even this book still have plot, but I get annoyed with Lara that demand Reece to make love to her. Its feel like this :

Lara : I have an itch
Reece : I will scratch it for you
Lara : Do.It. Now.
Reece : Anything you wish, my lady.

Yeah, something like that :/. I want their sexy times really sexy, even its bordering erotic, I want it sexy, not rushed :(

Like the first, this one is end in cliffhanger too, when Lara finally found Reece's ugly truth. Now, I'm frustated to know the next story, lol!

Book 2 with Reece and Lara. I found myself speed reading to "get to the good parts"......hahaha. Another fun ride but I actually enjoyed the first set of stories a bit better. Still skipping thru time, Reece has now gotten Lara to fall in love with him (again) and he reveals his secret and we are left hanging with the ending.

Again, fun, light reading but I'm reading for this ride to be over....

Recee lying to Lara is really painful to read. He doesn't want to but the past is the only way for him to live with "the love of his life". i can't only imagine that Lara would prefer to die than to live in the past running from Carl over and over again. A girl can have too much adventure in their life.

Once again, I'm reading this book because I'm sort of hooked on the characters and what's next... not because they're all that well-written. And I still find it difficult to believe these are recent works by Olivia Cunning of the Sinners series...

We pick up in the desert, where we left Reece and Lara after they did a "leap" through time into another set of bodies. In this case, a wife in the harem of a rich, influential sheik and the eunuch guarding her. Yep, eunuch. So how is it that the eunuch can have sex with the wife, you ask? No clue. Thought it might have something to do with Reece occupying his body and being anything other than a eunuch. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

We spend A LOT of time in this desert place, trying to uncover the mystery of who wants the wife or the eunuch or both dead. There's a lot of sex - m-f-f, m-m-f-f, and so on...

Once again, these books seem to be an attempt to write varied, hot sex scenes and then string them together into a time travel romance. Except it doesn't quite work... the stories aren't all that well-written or even well though out. It's odd.

I guess because I want to know Reece's secret and how things will end for Reece and Lara - and whether Carl is really the bad guy or not - that keeps me reading.

Alas, there is no book #3 yet. So we leave feudal Japan, where Reece and Lara take on another pair of lovers... and leap into a ship scenario and major cliff-hangar.

No clue about the next book, not even when it's out. Good thing these things are cheap; and I hate that I'm sucked in enough to want the next book. Ugh!

I enjoy this genre when its a fun romp sort of a book, but this one took a turn for the worse. As much as i enjoy MM romances i'm not all that crazy about menage books which may account for part of my distaste. The two main characters are dedicated to one another, but Lara seems to be falling in love too fast for having just met Reece. I liked the idea of Reece tracking down his fiance and trying to rekindle the romance they had but it feels forced and too many weak plot holes. The point where i quit the story is where the couple that Lara and Reece leaped into to help turns out they are polyamorous. So they're not helping some predestined couple, they are helping an orgy of people, and Reece, in the guise of the eunichs body he's leapt into sleeps with another man. That turned me right off the book unfortuently. I tried to continue but the plot got a little contrived and the book became all about sex instead of about the couple trying to right wrongs and learn about each other and perhaps fix thier own problems. Great story idea, poor execution...

Finished the book - the review below still stands. All in all thoroughly disappointed with this one.

I have to admit, so far I am really disappointed in this book. Yes there have been one or two really juicy "romance scenes" (Yeah, I should just say sex scenes) but on the whole the terrible editing is really getting to me!

This book is riddled with duplicate words, incorrect words and sentences that really made no sense. I don't think I've gone 5 pages without coming across something! Unfortunately this is a real deal breaker for me - if someone doesn't take the time to properly edit a book it really doesn't say much for the value they put on this.

I only have 10% of the book left and I just can't see my opinion changing, which is a real shame as I have really enjoyed Olivia Cunning's books in the past

Damn you, Cliffhanger! When the story starts getting interesting, poof. To be continued. My life sucks.

I don't really Nasir's story. I mean sure it's hot but it's waaaay too long and swallowing the rest of the plot. So I ended up skipping most of them.

Definitely going to purchased the third book. :)

Olivia Cunning writes HOT stuff. I enjoy the time-travel and the historical aspects and while I am not an expert the cultural pieces seem respectful and interesting. As always, Reese and Lara are a warm and funny couple.

Hot hot hot hot! The first 2/3 of it were great...then it slowed down right after they leaped to new bodies. It was great, but I wish the intensity kept up through the entire book...I felt like I needed to really push through for the last 1/3 of the book.

Kenapa saya cuma kasi bintang 2? Mungkin karena saya ngerasa novel sekuel ini udah melenceng dari novel pertama. Terlalu banyak erotica, sampai ga berasa romantisme dan unsur mysterynya lagi. Plot ceritanya pun nol besar. Mengecewakan.

Now it's a matter of time if Lara's love will be strong enough to forgive or to face her destiny.
