One night at the circus can change everything... Bunny Reed is a poor poet just trying to make ends meet. When she attends a strange pop-up circus attraction in New York City all she's looking for is a fun time. Alex, Eddie, and Spencer work for the circus as clowns, and when they see Bunny sitting in the front row of the audience one night, something about her draws them in. Bunny begins a whirlwind relationship with the men but she can sense there's a hidden darkness to them. When they confide in her that they actually work as hitmen who target sexual predators at first Bunny is horrified, but when her own abusive ex shows up to hunt her down she decides it's time to send in the clowns.
Molly Likovich is the author of gothic romances, poetry, and the occasional play. When she's not writing she can be found lurking around the local graveyard.
WARNING: Take the 1 star with a grain of salt, as I DNF’d this at around the 4th chapter, about 14% of the way in. So I can’t speak as to where the book goes from here that warrants the glowing reviews.
A lot of the reviews talked about how sexy and empowering and affirming this book was, for people dealing with trauma and ptsd and chronic illness and disability - all things I deal with. I read the warnings at the start and it just mentioned talk of disability, ptsd, and being 18+.
But I had to stop reading because…and I hate to sound so f*cking fragile, because I’m usually NOT at all and rarely triggered by any sort of content….the story was re-traumatizing me with how non-con it is. I tried to use spoiler tags for the rest of this, hope it worked, I don’t review here much 😅….if not and you don’t want MASSIVE spoilers for the first few chapters, don’t read beyond this point.
The talent that Likovich has always possessed of balancing the heavy important things and the hunger we all have for romance will never stop astounding me. From the intricacies that constitute her main character to the importance of an actual caring connection between all her characters. All of it coated in a daring romance, delicious obsession, and decadent spice. It will trap you and you will never want to leave the circus.
Three things I want to start off by saying: 1. I didn't think this book would be so emotional. One chapter I'm crying, the next I'm laughing, and the next it's heating things up. 2. The poetry in this story is SO GOOD (especially make me a murder scene, frame it like a suicide on page 138 of the paperback). It gave me so many goosebumps. 3. I read this book in one sitting. It was incredibly hooking, and the pace never let up. It made for a perfect straight through read.
Send in the Clowns is a DARK romance thriller. Please be advised of trigger warnings before going in. I'll have some at the bottom of the review, but Molly Likovich also has them listed on her website.
Send in the Clowns follows Bunny, a disabled poet trying to heal from past traumas and cope with her Digenerative Disc Disease and fibromyalgia. She catches the attention of three insane(ly hot) hitmen clowns while attending the local circus and quickly becomes ensnared in their plot to make her theirs.
Without repeating my first three points, this book was so hooking- Molly immediately leads into the action of Bunny's story, not allowing you to put the book down for a moment. While it's spicy and thrilling, it's also emotionally evocative. Bunny's storyline is raw and honest. It's shown through not only her words but also her actions and her writing. Eddie's story is also emotional, but Bunny's is much more the focus of the story and had more of an impact. "Maybe I'm so broken only the darkest of souls could want me."
The romance is depraved and addicting. I'm pretty new to dark romance, but I know I enjoyed the hell out of this one despite there being subjects in here I've never even thought about.
Also, Bunny's revenge part to the story was the chef's kiss on top of an already good plot. Give me all the female rage taking her revenge! "I choose selfishness for the sake of healing. I choose violence for the sake of peace."
5 stars - I saw myself in this, and I felt so loved.
It's not often I see myself so accurately or deeply represented, much less in one of my absolute favourite genres. Things kept popping up that made me go "oh my gosh, did she read my mind?" I don't think I realise or am fully aware of just how much I need to sometimes see people with experiences that mirror my own, especially in terms of disability, until I do and it rocks me to my core. When I started reading this book I wasn't expecting to cry because of shower chairs, but here we are.
This book is funny, exciting, sexy and emotional. It is both catharsis and acceptance. All my love to this story, these characters and their author.
Amazing!! Likovich has done a brilliant job of offering a glimpse into a world that has the connotation of goofy or strange and made it so sexy and maybe even a little taboo! I loved the why choose aspect of this and how each clown had a different personality who helped her unlock and discover different parts of herself to heal. The representation in this book was fantastic and Bunny was an advocate for anyone who felt like they weren't worthy of love due to abusive past relationships or a disability. I can't wait to go to the circus!
Fans of Likovich will already know how well she writes quirky dark romances, but this book highlights how beautifully poetic her writing can be while staying in that genre.
Touching on themes of abuse, grief, and disability, parts of this book left me speechless with how powerful and important the messages are. Not to mention Bunny’s/Likovich’s poetry itself which is so moving.
You’ll get completely swept away by these clowns! The action kept me on the edge of my seat and the spice was spicy 🥵
I received an early copy of the book from the author - all opinions are my own.
Yes, clowns are polarizing - but check the trigger warnings and give it a chance. The clowns are a little bit more like The Joker than Ronald McDonald if that helps? But that’s also only one part of the story - the main character was really easy to connect to, it felt like a friend telling me about some wild stuff that happened after a night at the circus. It is also a really impactful, honest and empowering portrayal of living with trauma.
Well shit. I have never read one of Molly's books before, but I can not recommend Molly Likovich enough, and I will be reading more from them in the future!
This was such a unique, beautiful demented, sad, sexy, steamy, twisted book. It was honestly a wild ride and covers some heavy topics, and I am 100% here for it!
I was inraptured specifically by Spencer because he was the listener, the observer, quiet one. And we all know how those quiet ones truly are/can be once they feel comfortable around you. He was in ways, the gentler one, with a rough side that I'm sure everyone can agree can definitely be fun too 😈
Eddie, oh sweet Eddie. He is so beautiful, and I just can't put into words all the things he made me feel. Just like Spencer, Eddie has been through some hard things. I appreciate his struggles and love how he was able to let loose toward the end.
Alex, he was broody, a firecracker, and his attitude could go from 0 to killer clown so quick. I love how protective he is and how much he does to help not only protect Bunny but to show her love in multiple ways.
The trio as a whole worked kind of like a hive mind. They all knew how the other was feeling and when they wanted to do certain things. The way they treated the female MC, Bunny, was so touching, and I'll be honest, I envy this. Not just the spicy parts, but the intimate personal parts of getting to know someone's demons, how they didn't treat her negatively because of her disabilities, but saw her as she was and for who she was. And they believed her and didn't make her feel less. If ever I wanted any book boyfriend(s), it would be these men, these psycho stalker clowns.
Bunny is a fucking badass. Plain and simple. I was in awe that she had so much shit happen to her, yet she pushes on and doesn't take shit from anyone. She changes so much throughout the story and just when I thought she couldn't get any more badass, she surpassed that. I don't know what the next level after badass is, but she's there! And let's not forget her poetry. The fluidity was eloquent, haunting, mind alteringly beautiful, sad, and touching.
(Definitely check the trigger warnings before you get into this one)
This isn't usually the genre I read so I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I really enjoyed this. The writing was really well done during spicy, and non spicy scenes. And I really enjoyed the balance between the serious topics this book tackles and the other parts of the story. I honestly loved the clown boys and they were such a great part of this story. The main character being self aware about the situations shes put in is also an addition I appreciate, the book follows such a wild concept and it's just a really fun time if you dont want something that takes itself so seriously. I cannot wait for this to be published and for other folks to read it, i hope they have as good a time as I did.
Had the opportunity to proofread Send in the Clowns for Molly! She has wowed me again with her art to craft a heart wrenching, beautiful, spicy story. I loved the care and respect the clowns showed Bunny, and even with the sad bits there was the ever present theme of hope and love and finding someone (or someoneS) who will show you love. Bunny has definitely entered my top five favorite protagonists of all time. Also, LOVED the poetry interwoven through the story—so good!!
So I’m not one for clowns, they actually scare me a bit but this story didn’t trigger that for me at all. What amazing piece of story telling, it was gripping, funny, spicy and so heart felt.
And as someone who also suffers with chronic pain (chiari malformation) I understand the MFC so well with what it’s like to struggle from day to day.
Thank you Molly for giving me this opportunity to read this early ♥️
An erotic novel with a delightfully absurd premise that delivers wild, fun, and surprising events, while at the same time serving up serious insight into the hardships of living with a physical disability. Bunny undergoes powerful changes, allowing herself to be loved, embracing her sexuality, and moving through her past trauma. . . . Who knew clowns could be so hot?
i was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and i honestly didn't know what to expect other than sexy killer clowns, and while i did get that, i also got so much more. i feel like this book was the embodiment of molly likovich and everything she loves. you can tell while reading she put her whole heart and soul into it, which makes the whole experience so much better. the FMC not only is poet-like molly likovich- but also has degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia like molly likovich. i feel like this character was molly writing her story with a twist, which made this book all the more touching. since the FMC is a poet, and there was a line where she said she puts emotions into words. this line made me realize how much this book made me feel. i found myself sad when they were sad, happy when they were happy, and that's hard to do as a writer, but molly did it, and it was so incredibly amazing. this story touched my heart in ways i never expected, and i feel it's forever going to be imprinted into my mind. these characters trials and tribulations they went through truly hits close and makes you love them even more. i want nothing but the best for them, and they've created their own little space in my heart. but despite all of the ache of love and pain, this story was able to be beautifully sexy. It delivered all the spice expected with a hint of crazy that made a lovely mix. i loved how these clowns cared so much for her and supported her whenever her fibromylagia was acting up. I'm now considering going to a circus to find me some hot clowns😌 anyways. this book was so amazing and was everything i expected and more.
⚠︎ Check TW just in case before you decide to jump into this!!
I’ve read many of Molly’s books and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that she never fails to impress me.
I loved how she can put together a story with so many realistic and meaningful topic’s while making it witty, funny, and spicy at the same time. This book was absolutely phenomenal, I literally couldn’t put it down. The story was amazing, and so were the characters!
I absolutely loved Alex, Eddie, and Spencer. Their relationship with Bunny was the absolute best, I loved how respectful and caring they were and how they would do anything for her. The spice was chef kiss! And honestly don’t get me started with Bunny and Lucy’s friendship!! ✨
I’m not usually a person who constantly reads poems but the poems in this book? I absolutely adored them, I can’t believe how underrated Molly’s work is because she sure needs to have more hype!! ❤️
This book for one reason or another reminds me so much of Haunting Adeline and Ruthless Desires series!!
I am grateful that I could read this book in exchange of a honest review!
Oh my goodness. I loved this book, to start with. Bunny's character spoke to me in a way that a lot of characters don't. I very much enjoyed seeing a disabled character whose struggles weren't shown in the light of being an inconvenience. Not only that, but it showed that a disability doesn't stop you from living a worthwhile and whole life. I think this is something that should be incorporated into more books as just a part of who the character is, as opposed to a major plot point or character arc.
The men in this story were wonderful, but isn't that the reason we read romance? Eddie, Spencer, and Alex were delightful and I was pleasantly surprised to be more intrigued by the clown makeup than I expected to be. I have been excited to read this book since I first came across the preview for it on TikTok and it surely did not disappoint. This is also the first book I've read by Molly Likovich, and I will surely be checking out more in the future.
Molly Likovich does it again!! This book is funny, thrilling, sexy, and witty. I had to ask myself several time while read this book, am I sexual attracted to clowns? The answer is yes!, for the clowns in the book. The way Molly write about trauma and reclaiming your life after sexual assault is caring, compassionate, and beautiful. Bunny Reed is one of my most favorite lead cheaters I have read in a while. This book will make you laugh, blush, and cry in the best way. You will not regret reading this book.
I honestly can't believe what I read in this book. It's such a fun journey, but please read the CWs. Bunny is the FMC that we all need in our lives. She's strong and willing to speak her mind when faced with CNC. Sometimes when authors write those scenes for me I find myself very irritated at how they play out, but that wasn't the case for this one.
I'm very happy that I stumbled upon this when I was scrolling on insta. I don't think you'll be disappointed to add this to your TBR.
I really loved seeing disability representation as a main point in a darker romance. I think it added so much to much plot and really helped show us a little bit about the Alex, Eddie, and Spencer as well as Bunny. I honestly didn’t go in expecting to love this book as much as I did. I genuinely enjoyed it, I read it in one sitting. I do hope one day we get a book about Lucy as well 👀 I would love to see more of her
Okay wow I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would, I went into this for fun spooky spice and this delivered that and more! Okay firstly the concept was amazing I mean mmc's who work in a 18+ circus? Sign me up, I loved the unique concept and want more books like this one, I was so addicted to this story (I really wish this was a series) this was so so easy to read and flew by, I didn't want to put this down at any point. The vibes were everything I mean it was spooky and everything I wanted, I actually really loved all the main characters although it did take about 20% 0r so before I could really get into the relationships and dynamics between all the characters but I think that was on purpose and was more of a set up reason if that makes sense. This is also a why choose / reverse harem and I loved how the mmc's already had a relationship with each other before the fmc because I feel like in most the mmc's only get together for the fmc (which i'm not complaining about) but I loved seeing the mmc's already having a established relationship with each other and seeing the moments between them together it was just so cute 🥹🥹 I'm really gonna miss these characters and vibes but such a good Halloween spooky read for the season
My personal ranking of the mmc's
1. Eddie 2. Spencer 3. Alex
Tropes:
Reverse harem / why choose Halloween full length book
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review*
One night, Bunny Reed and her roommate attend a pop-up circus that changes her life forever when the show's clowns, Alex, Eddie and Spencer take an interest in her.
At this point, we should just assume that I'm going to give anything Molly writes a 5-star rating. Her writing is extremely witty and you'll find your self laughing at the banter between her characters. She also has a way for writing EXTREMELY DISLIKABLE CHARACTERS (I'm looking at YOU, Alex) but you still want to read about them because they're so intriguing. She also discusses heavier topics such as trauma and what that looks like for different people, in a masterful way that will not only pull at your heartstrings, but have you deeply resonating. As always, the spice is spicing and I highly recommend you pick up this book and send in the clowns.
P.s. EDDIE FOR THE WIN TILL THE DAY I DIE (but he is also a tad MESSED UP - but its fine). P.s.s Alex can suck it - the bar is LITERALLY on the ground with that man.
I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book and at times it hit home for the disability representation, especially in regards to using a mobility aid ( in this case a cane). There were quotes that I want to hang on a plaque in my house.
the narrative of reclaiming yourself after trauma was done insightfully, respectfully and moving. I loved Bunny Reed as a character, I loved her clowns. Eddie was my favourite but they were all gorgeous.
Another beautifully crafted, dark, whimsical world created by Molly Likovich. I’ve been looking forward to this book for many months, and it did not disappoint. I don’t want to say much about it, as I think it’s the best experience to just be along for the ride with this story (check TW, of course).
I am solidly anti-clown but if three mildly unhinged rich hitmen who avenge women’s abusers while moonlighting as circus clowns on the side for kicks want to make me their goddess, massage my chronic pain away, and lick me like dessert, I’ll become pro-clown very quickly.
Mind your triggers. Particularly if you’re an SA survivor. This FMC enjoys fear and domination to deal with her trauma.
I love the Circus and I love Clowns. So this book was for me. I always love a Poly romance where the partners are all into eachother instead if them just chasing one person. The MC was relatable and a fun time
