Learning how to draw has never been easier with DRAWING SHAPE BY SHAPE, the first book in the Christopher Hart Books for Kids how-to-draw series.
With DRAWING SHAPE BY SHAPE, learning to draw is as simple as making a circle, a square, or a triangle. It’s the perfect choice for kids ages 4 and up, who can learn their shapes while drawing a cute cast of cartoon characters and critters. There are 130 characters in all, each accompanied by simple step-by-step instructions that make learning to draw fun and easy.

I started drawing character designs and storyboards for a small animation studio in while in High School. Cartooning and animation was a magical experience to me. I try to bring that experience, as well as art tips, to my readers. Their enthusiasm also motivates me.
Early in my career, my cartoon work got noticed by Watson-Guptill, a premier publisher of art books. They asked me to do a book for them on drawing cartoons. It sold 200,000 copies, which is a healthy number. So we kept going. I discovered that I enjoyed the art of creating books, which has its own special requirements. I also worked as an author for Random House, Quarto and Soho Publishing. In total, I have had 8 million books sold, and have been translated into 20 languages.
My book, "The Master Guide to Drawing Anime: How to Draw Original Characters from Simple Templates" has sold over half a million copies to date and is still very actively in print. An earlier book of mine, "Manga Mania: How to Draw Japanese Comics:" reached the number one art book in the country, according to Bookscan.
I've also been a cover story on the industry trade magazine, "Publisher's Weekly." And if you've read this far into my Bio, then I'm more impressed with you than you are with me!
Thank you so very much for letting me offer some inspiration to you in your art adventures.
I thought this book deserved another rating and review. It offers step by step instructions for drawing a lot of neat characters. It starts you off with a basic geometric shape and then you add in all the details.
The whole family loves it. My daughter is almost 4 and she can even use it as a guide all by herself sometimes. For my wife and I it is a great source of drawing ideas. I mean, how many times can you draw trees and sunshine when your 4 year old asks you to draw something.
I have the drawing skills of a 3rd grader (and some 3rd graders might take offense at that comparison). Even I can turn out reasonable drawings by following the steps.
Drawing Shape by Shape: Create Cartoon Characters with Circles, Squares & Triangles by Christopher hart this is a great book, it uses shapes and inspiration for children to draw a variety of items, i used it today from 1 to 5th graders, turning to different animals, and had great results, no child said it was too hard, no kid asked me to draw the picture for them this is a great art resource for the school and the art room.... and i think i will pick it up for my daughter who thinks she can't draw...
Love it! Not just for kids, I bought it for myself, thinking it would be something my son I could do together. He has a lot of fun with it, we have fun together. I will be keeping the masterpieces that we make.
This is a GREAT drawing book for kids! I love how it is grouped in sections by shape, so the kids can really master the art of using specific shapes to draw pictures.
