The Sacred Language of Trees

Rate this book
This insightful and exquisite book explains how our primal relationship with trees--a central theme in religion, myth, and culture--continues to evolve in an age of environmental fragility.  Author A. T. Mann explores the properties of trees, and our complicated relationship with them. Stunning arboreal art and photographs celebrate the mystery of trees, enhanced by quotes from poetry, literature, and spiritual texts. Investigating the tree in varying guises, from Jungian symbolism to Indian fertility worship, Mann shows us new ways to appreciate them in our conscious and unconscious lives. The Sacred Language of Trees will make us aware of trees' importance to the future of humanity and Earth itself.

Parts of the book were interesting; others seemed a bit forced to make the author's point. Also, there were several awkward typos (comic for cosmic, for example). I'm not sorry that I read it, but am not sure I would recommend it to anyone else.

Very in-depth, took a while to finish. Liked content, a different kind of read for me.

Absolutley loved this book. It touches on so many interesting connections between language and nature that can be found across the world. From ancient religious texts, petroglyphs painted in caves, to creations stories across all walks of earth, they all mention the sacred trees.
