Featuring poetry from new and emerging Aboriginal writers from the length of Australia’s Northern Territory, this compilation offers insight into the Indigenous way of life as well as into the dilemmas the community faces. Ranging from teenage poets to elders, the contributors come from diverse rural, urban, and remote backgrounds, giving their works a range of experience and depth.
This selection of writing, poems and stories, from the Northern Territory showcases a wide range of contributors. Some pieces are produced in English and in their original language. Themes run from the natural world, to the magical or traditional realm, to the angry or tragic reality. Having recently spent two weeks in Alice Springs and the surrounding desert definitely added to my appreciation of this collection. I would give it 3.5 stars if that was an option.
