I accidentally bought the novel of this instead of the version of the play that Beatrix was in. I gave it a go and got about half way through but I just found it very annoying. Unlike the Green Hat, which was amusing social commentary, this was pure farce. The people were so unbelievable, the language trite, and the situation and circumstances terribly contrived! I just couldn't be bothered to finish it. It probably would have been much more entertaining as a play with the right cast, but as a novel it was tedious. Will read the play at the British Library instead.
