Chapin begins the book recommending that people about to partake in or lead the Lord's Supper spend significant time in meditation before doing so - at least an afternoon. This text are his reflections in preparation. It isn't Chapin's most lyrical of works, but it is a view on how he, as a Universalist, sought to find a happifying and joyful religion in contemplating Jesus' death and sacrifice.
