Years ago, when these books first came out, I read a couple in the series and enjoyed them. Hard-boiled detective stories with a Lovecraftian sophistication to them? I'm so there. So I was excited when I picked up the remaining editions of the series I still hadn't read. But I don't know if it was just this story, or the fact that this was first in the series, or I just liked those other books better at that time, but I just couldn't really get all the way into this one. I really struggled despite it being less than 200 pages long. Hopefully, the other books will go smoother.

Fun characters and story with a strong nod to Lovecraft. Although published in 1992, has an even earlier "retro" feel (IMO). Clunky in places but somehow it worked with the genre.
