Dr. Morton Cooper, a pioneer in the study of speech and "voice doctor to the stars," has a plan whtat will put magic in your voice. With his simple, minutes-a-day program, Dr. Cooper shows you how to develop your natural, dynamic voice--a voice that will influence others and enhance your self-image.
This book contains some useful practical advice and I appreciate the author for teaching about an important aspect of communication that isn't often taught elsewhere. However, the book also has a lot of filler anecdotes that I didn't care for and that would best have been kept in separate chapters from the actual advice so that readers could more easily just read the parts they were interested in.
We all have our own natural and true voice. Sometimes, most of the time, we misuse it, adopting bad habits and trying to copy others but only making it worse. I'm consciously trying to apply the principles learned in this book, and I know that there is a difference in my voice and attitude.
The true stories of Cooper's students are also inspiring and varied; almost everyone can relate to one story or another in this book. I recommend to it all who are not confident in their speaking voice or who simply want to improve their communication skills. It will help you realize and be aware of all the great voices that surround you.
Lots of stories of client successes. The main bits of advice appear at the very beginning and are then summarized again at the very end. You can get most of the useful content out of the last chapter. I stuck with reading the chapters in between looking for more tips, but they were few and far between. Now I just need to put the techniques into practice.
This is a great book for specialists in voice disorders or people suffering from a voice disorder. After reading this book, I flew from Alaska to Los Angeles to train with Dr. Cooper. He revolutionized and streamlined how I worked with people with voice disorders. I share some of his materials on my website, kitrobertsjohnson.com
As a broadcaster, I learned everything there is to know and more about voice usage. I refer to this book often to repeat some of his best tips and tricks. I have a long way to go to improve, but his book is an excellent place to start and get better whenever.
A very easy read with useful and relevant information. This book isn't highly technical and it really makes you think about how you use your voice every day and why it is you enjoy listening to some people and not others. Cooper provides exercises to determine if your using your voice correctly, examples from all walks of life of voice misuse and retraining. I am glad to have this information.
