The Oasis

Rate this book
The Oasis is a darkly fantastic love story set in a contemporary mental hospital.Eddie Cray is a young man who has lived in a mental care facility for the last six years of his life, following the auto accident that killed his family. The event left him crippled and with total memory loss of his prior life. With escalating regularity and danger, he is haunted by nighttime seizures that signal further deterioration of both his mind and body. While his condition worsens, a new arrival at Summerhill Estates (the beautiful, but catatonic Ana), sparks his immediate fascination. When he sneaks out at night to read to her, Eddie is pulled out of this world and into her mind, where she is trapped in a state of limbo. A connection is found between these two young people whose fractured half-lives have been devastated by their respective brushes with death. Eddie tries desperately to find a way to help Ana return to her body, hoping to learn why her medical records and past are kept secret even from the nursing staff. In the process, the mysterious island limbo returns Eddie’s memories to him, but at a price. The terrible truth of childhood abuse returns to haunt him. All the while, a serial-killer nurse looms in the background, stalking his next victim.
