Nice to learn of a regional Christmas tradition. This was vastly improved by reading along while listening to the recording from which it was drawn.

The sole change in the words - from "alky" (alcohol) to "syrup" - seemed unnecessary.

Ian Wallace's art is, as usual, stunning in this rhyming-verse picture book that introduces children to the mumming tradition in Newfoundland, which began in the early 1800s.

A story dear to my heart, the mummers song is a Christmas tradition in my family. Here the lyrics are beautifully illustrated, with a copy of the song to boot!
