Battlefields And Blessings

Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front

Rate this book
This devotional book contains 365 true stories of struggles, courage, and actions of women, children, and men involved in the home front of American wars, in chronological order, from the French Indian War through the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. These stories illustrate effective prayers, heroism, volunteer efforts, and daily courage.
Special weekend devotions consist of original words from a journal, newspaper, letter, or newspaper, and glimpses into life during that era, such as fashion, pastimes, work, and celebrations.
Each story includes a coordinated Scripture and a prayer for today’s military, families, or individuals encountering struggles.

What a great book! It's encouraging to me as a military spouse, but also teaching me so much -- about history, about the internal strength God gave to military spouses and about myself. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is a military spouse or to anyone who wants to understand the heart of a warrior's bride better.

I won this book in a drawing from one of the Authors (Karen Whiting)on The Book Club Network. The Copy I received has the other cover on it but they read the same!
I am in love with this book! In fact I was in love with this book BEFORE my 17yr old son announced his interest in joining the Rangers after he graduates this year!! Now I am soaking it up like a sponge!!
I asked Karen if she wanted me to give a review now of my opinion of what I have read or wait till I have finished. Normally I would devour this book, but it is set up where it can also be used as a daily devotional and with my son talking non stop about the military I put the brakes on and started reading it as a devotional to help prepare my heart and my responses to be the right kind. So I won't finish it till the end of Dec.
But what I have read is an amazing compilation of American History, Bravery of not only our fighting men but the families who carried on with out them!
This book starts with the very first war the USA ever fought and goes through every war and conflict since all the way up to today! It is a true work of heart! I highly recommend it to everyone and I think every family in America should have one on their shelf!

Every entry is powerful in this beautiful collection that includes letters, journal entries, essays, excerpts from published works, and stories told by those of us who stay home when our warriors go to war.

Although this book is written for a Christian audience, there is nothing "preachy" about any of the entries. I welcome hearing the voices of real women who have served their country as military wives and mothers. The photographs that accompany many of the stories are a welcome addition.

The cover depicting a woman with a slight smile on her face is moving and reminds me of my own time as a military wife turned military mom. The Blue Star in the background was not lost on this reader. Some entries are painful and gut-wrenching while others brought a smile to my face. Each story and brief prayer is moving and reminds me how proud I am of every woman who has ever stayed behind while her loved one (s) go to war.

For fair disclosure, I was one of the lucky writers picked to be included in this collection. My portion covers The Persian Gulf War. When my copy arrived in the mail, I was struck by the beauty of the cover and the creamy pages. The book simply feels good in your hands.

This book can be opened at any page and read for enjoyment and encouragement. You don't need to start at page one and read in chronological order. I highly recommend STORIES OF FATH and COURAGE FROM THE HOME FRONT for anyone who has a loved one serving in the military or for anyone who enjoys reading about real people who go above and beyond the call to duty. Even if that duty is staying behind to keep the home fires burning.
