This is a crockpot cookbook that has recipes that take some work but which are a lot tastier than standard simple recipes for the slow cooker. So, if you're looking for convenience, this will not be your best bet. If you are interested in starting a dish earlier in the day, having it ready for dinner, and wanting something that tastes very good, this may be the cookbook for you.
For instance, pork and potato hot-pot. Ingredients include finely sliced onion, butter, oil, garlic clove (crushed), button mushrooms, mixed herbs, potatoes (think sliced), pork chops, vegetable or chicken stock, salt, and pepper. Preparation takes a while; then, 4-5 hours in the slow cooker. End result? A tasty dish. Other examples of main dishes: lamb in dill sauce, Provencal beef stew, hot and sour pork. There are vegetable and other side dishes, such as mushroom and fennel hot-pot; potato, onion and garlic gratin. Even deserts! Examples? Sticky coffee and pear pudding. Blueberry and muffin pudding. A final section focuses on preserves and drinks, such as mango chutney and hot spiced wine.
So, if you're willing to invest some upfront time and effort, this is a nice cookbook. Many who use crockpots/slow cookers, of course, want convenience and minimal preparation. This cookbook is not for such people.
