Originally completed in Polish and introduced by Olympia Press to outstanding reviews under the title "Duch Moralnosci", Part One of the "The Ghost of Morality" by American writer Chris Coffman is now available in English (this version has been transposed by the author into a different setting). This book received significant acclaim through advanced review circulation within literary circles and draws from a broad array of literary influences, while maintaining a unique voice and narrative structure. The story is narrated by James Keller, a college student, who begins losing touch with reality, alternating between his telling of his experiences and his reliving them. Coffman is noted for using tense and person shift masterfully to capture the mental state of his subjects. Part one of this work is able to stand alone as one of the more important first literary efforts of this generation.

A glimpse into the mind of a college classmate who is no longer with us. Wish I'd gotten to know him better - he was complicated, creative, clever, fascinating, and now I have a better grasp of why he seemed to be on a different plane of reality. If you attended St. Mary's College in the mid-90s you will probably recognize the people and places described.
