Divorce and Remarriage

Rate this book
What does the Bible say about divorce and remarriage? In the age where people can get a “no-fault” divorce (when is it ever nobody’s fault?), believers cannot dodge the issue; we cannot skip it, run from it, or ignore it. God has spoken clearly on this subject, and while it is far from easy to address, it must be dealt with. Combining a high view of marriage, compassion, and biblical authority, Tony Evans gives invaluable insight into divorce and remarriage, answering questions Evans explores real-life fears and questions by looking at the issue from God’s vantage point, not from our emotional one.

This book was a great and biblical read. I would recommend this book to all who have questions or concerns about divorce or remarriage. Many people and even Christians do not have a clue on what God says about marriage and divorce. There is definitely biblical grounds for divorce but what many don't know is that divorcing for a reason that is not approved by God brings severe damage to both spouses and affects children. Marriage is a gift from God and it is to bring glory to God.

In a nutshell, God hates divorce, (Malachi 2 v 16) but he also hates adultery, violence and desertion and he sometimes permits divorce.

This book explores the 3 Biblical acceptable reasons for divorce namely;
1. unfaithfulness/adultery
2.when a Christian is abandoned by a non Christian spouse
3.when a Christian is living in the realm of spiritual death through unrepentant spiritual rebellion ie. desertion or violence.
1 Cor. 7 v 10-15

What God has joined together only God can separate. This book explains these issues very clearly.

Occasionally people ask my husband and me for resources on this topic so I decided to do some research and find some. I am usually a big fan of Tony Evans books because of the way that he breaks the information down and always includes scripture. I found this book to go along the lines of what I usually expect from him. I appreciated the information he included on forgiveness, repentance, and mainly being supported by the church. My only concern is some of the information provided in the beginning and not including the King James version of the scriptures that he referenced. This would be an okay resource to share with a mature believer but not for a babe in Christ.

Conservative and a decent overview, nothing that really made it stand out.

It's too bad that Evans repeatedly says, "God hates divorce," but newer translations put the hate with the man: "The man who hates and divorces his wife, says the LORD...(NIV2011)" and “For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the LORD,... (ESV)"

Answered the question

I was looking for answers to the question of when and if divorce is ok. Honestly I even looked into the Bible. This book verifies what I found. Worth the time invested

Good information but a lot to take in through an audiobook. I would suggest getting a physical copy if you are interested in indulging in this read. I will def. download the kindle book and re-read it.

It was a short book with some interesting food for thought. Covenants and some of the effects of divorce are discussed. I didn't absolutely agree with all of Dr. Evan's finer points and found some of the material only included initial groundwork. Not bad for its short length.

Most detailed Biblical view on divorce and re-marriage

The topic of divorce and remarriage is rarely taught and talked about at church. It is almost like a topic the churches try to avoid. This book gives a detailed, biblical way to see what God says about the topic. A must read!

Honestly! I thought it would deal with more after divorce and remarriage. It most talked about before divorce and all the mosaic laws around it!
