Streets of hope: Finding God in St Kilda

Rate this book
After theological training in Switzerland, Tim Costello's ministry in a Melbourne bayside suburb - as famous for sex and drugs as for its ethnic mix - was to test his prejudices as a lawyer, his convictions and himself. This is his own story of the encounters and characters, ideas and values.

Book club book. Overall an interesting read. I didn't like the use of the word 'preach' which he used a lot but what was I expecting he is a minister. At times it was easy to forget this fact because of the numerous jobs Tim did, just reading what he did in a day or week made me feel worn out. He is full of compassion and empathy for people of all race, creed and religion which is to be admired. The world especially Melbourne is lucky to have him fight for just causes. I enjoyed the touches of humour throughout the book, it made him feel human.

This book was an inspiration when I first read it. Costello's autobiography from his years as pastor at St Kilda Baptist demonstrate what it means to be like Christ, on society's periphery
