Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear know how to rock! But they need a new singer, so they audition everyone—the Three Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, and more. To their dismay, no one seems just right. Could the perfect lead singer be the mysterious girl sleeping on Baby Bear’s keyboard? This mash up of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Voice is a surefire storytime hit.

The kids liked it. I loved it. It was easy and the words had rhythm (helping keep the kids engaged)
It's a musical take on Goldilocks and the 3 bears. The three bears band needs a singer that can hit the high notes, so they go out to hold auditions. Goldi comes across their house/studio while they are gone. She tries their instruments and headphones, but falls asleep. The bears wake her up when they get back and love that she's pitch perfect and can reach a high C.
Cute version twist of Goldilocks. The three bears made a band but was missing something. While out looking for a soprano Goldi finds her way in their house. She finds a studio full of instruments gets comfy on the piano. When the bears get back they find she is just what they were looking for.
This book literally rocks! I loved everything about this book. It rhymed, and had a good story line. This would be a fun book to introduce rhymes to students. Also, it would be a good book to use for brain breaks. The pictures support the words perfectly. It has a really catchy rhyme on each page, and it flowed well. I will be buying this book for my future classroom.
Goldi Rocks and the Three Bears is a funny twist on the original fairy tale. I gave it 3 stars for the humorous tones that are present throughout the book. The story follows the usual construct for a Goldilocks spinoff. However, this time, the three bears are all in a band together and they are holding auditions for a lead singer! Goldilocks breaks in while the bears are away, tries out the band equipment and falls asleep. When the bears get home, both parties involved are in for a big surprise.
My first impression of this book was amusement. It is fun to see a version of an old traditional story that will get the children who read it engaged and entertained. The book has large backgrounds that cover the entire page of a solid vibrant color. The colors are very enticing and draw your eye to the page. There are several pages in which the illustration takes up both pages. The drawings are fun, and resemble a cartoon that you would see on television. The lines and drawings are very neat, very clean and look very embellished for comedic effect. The font is consistent throughout and it is just a simple, large and thick font that is easy to read. The artistic style looks like it was created digitally. This book is definitely a product of the fractured fairytale movement that led to the creation of many new exciting and often comical versions of traditional fairytales. The compositional element that plays the largest role in the cohesion of the story as a whole is the color. The background colors are usually different but the consistency in the size, vibrancy and texture throughout gives it a really harmonious overtone. The text lays into the drawings well and the drawings portray what is written in the words. It is a very simple and classic relationship and it works really well in this story. The words are crucial to the comedy but the drawings are equally important. The drawings and their exaggerated features and funny portrayals of the words written in the text make the book the fun creation that it is.
The title Goldi Rocks and the Three Bears, with only a one-letter change, does little to let the reader know how fresh, fun, and phonetically pleasing this book truly is. The 2014 G.P. Putnam's Sons' release is actually one of five fractured fairy tales from author Corey Rosen Schwartz. Instead of cranking out book after book, it's clear that Schwartz is a perfectionist with each book packing a punch, especially Goldi.
Library shelves will continue to add remixes and mashups of classic fairy-tales. In fact, the versions from our childhoods are typically retellings themselves. Take for instance Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which was originally a grim tale of an old lady trespassing into the home of three bachelor bears. Over time, the wrinkled gal devolved into the perky youngster Goldilocks while the bromance mutated into a traditional nuclear family.
The title Goldi Rocks doesn't lie though, as the book is groovaliciously good. Schwartz replaces the mundane repetitions of Mamma, Papa, and Baby Bear with vivid variations and also brilliantly avoids mentioning them by name when possible. The musical diction along with an ABCCB rhyming cinquains renders the book a lyrically pleasing read-aloud. Applause to the editor, illustrator, and art director for intelligently splicing the stanzas between pages to avoid monotony, yet despite the continual cinquain caterpillar trail the read-aloud maintains the phonetic pleasantry of the rhyme scheme despite the back to back C rhymes feeling a little forced and cheesy.
Story wise, Goldi Rocks respects the classic tale's framework but also keeps it fresh with cameos from other fairy tales while the bears seek out a lead singer. The illustrations are busy with colors, but are purposeful with each illustration centering on the appropriate action keeping it modern and attractive.
This book deserves a spot on every child's (those who understand English) and kid lit writer's bookshelves. Reserve the other fractured three bear tales for the library.
Goldi Rocks and the three bears was just great remix of the original story Goldilocks and the three bears. The story begins with mama, papa and little bear in a band. The three of them were very sad that they didn't have many fans yet and that there porridge was to hot to eat. So they decided to go for a walk in the forest in search to find a soprano. While they were out Goldilocks came upon there house. After knocking and nobody answering and she could smell the porridge so she decided to go in for a look. Once she opened the door her eyes got big and the pictures got brighter and she forgot all about the porridge sitting on the table. By this time all she so interested in the microphones of mama, papa and little bears that after trying them all out she found that baby bears was her size. She started to Sing and whirl around and she fell and broke the microphone in two. So she decided to use the headphones instead. After going through them all to check the size she found that it was baby bears fit her the best. As she continued to play with all the instruments she finally realized how tired she was and fell asleep on the keyboard. When the bears returned home after they were done having their tryouts the look on the bears faces were in shock and who could have done this? The color of the pictures were very dark as the bears were very sad that there stuff was broken. It was then they noticed a little girl drooling all over the keyboard wondering who could she be? After she was awoken she jumped up and screamed the pictures got brighter, lines were on the page expressing her scream and the bears faces changed from a sad face to a face of wondering who she was. After she recovered from the shock of who the bears were she performed for them After hearing her voice the faces of the bears changed to happy look. The look on Goldi's face was happy as she performed for them and in the end they wrote a new song " Too Hot, Too Cold, or just Right? and became their hit single.
Gold Rocks and the Three Bears is a modern retelling of the classic tale. The three bears were in a band that knew how to rock, but they could seem to hit the high notes in their songs. They decided that they needed to hold auditions to find a soprano. When they left, Goldi approached their house and made her way inside as she smelled porridge and was very hungry. However, she forgot about her hunger upon seeing their in-home studio. She began trying out the microphones, headphones, and instruments, ultimately deciding that baby bear's items were just right. The bears were holding auditions in which a few of their fellow fairytale creatures were falling flat. When they came back home, they noticed that their equipment had been tampered with, then noticed Goldi snoozing on the keyboard. When they woke her up, she shrieked a perfect high 'C' note. The bears were impressed and asked her to sing a whole song, then asked her to join their band. This is a fun book that puts an interesting twist on "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." The illustrations were simple and colorful, using a mixture of both warm and cool tones to give the impression that she is on stage. Young children would love this book because of the funny scenarios, but also because they would be able to recognize that this story is similar in structure to its classic counterpart. I would definitely use this in a classroom when teaching about fairy tales, because it is a great example of how many different ways you can tell these stories while still keeping the main topics and themes.
Goldi Rocks and the Three bears is one of my favorite childhood books out on the market. The story by Corey Rosen Schwartz models that of the original classic, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but instead of porridge, chairs, and beds, Goldilocks is trying the different instruments to see which one fits her best. Near the end of the tail we learn that the 3 Bears are looking for their new lead singer, and it just so happens that Goldilocks has the voice.
This is a wonderful spin on a classic tale that I have grown up reading. Perhaps I am as thrilled as I am with this book because I just absolutely love to play, and listen to music. Our illustrators did a wonderful job of using the both full pages to fit as much detail as they could in this piece. There use of colors really made the pictures pop, and ultimately kept even the youngest of readers engaged. I would recommend this book to pretty much any reader out there, old or young!
Awards: None K-3 This book introduces rhymes to students and the pictures support the words. This book is an orginal fairytale that begins with mama, papa, and little bear in a band. They were very sad because the porridge was to hot to eat. They are looking for a singer and they have auditions to find one and Goldilocks sings for them. This book is interesting because the illustrations were well detailed and are big enough for children to see. The colors made the pictures pop out and made it engaging for me to read. This will help children learn about music and they will enjoy and learn about rhyming. 1. Can you write the events that happened this in story? 2. Read the book then have a sing along with the whole class.
Another good variation on Goldilocks. It goes through the same simplistic patterning of phrases, basic problem/solution style writing, and anthropomorphic animals! It's a musical version of Goldilocks! Instead of eating their food, breaking their chairs, and sleeping in their beds she messes with their microphones, breaks instruments, and falls asleep on a piano. Plus, this one ends with them becoming a sensational rock band! This would be a good book to theme to a musical lined lesson in phonics. There is a lot of singing in younger elementary, especially when you're learning the basics: letter sounds, writing letters, the whole thing. Integrating a musical lesson would do wonders and then you have a book with pretty simple language to go with the theme!
Corey Rosen Schwartz wrote Goldi Rocks and the Three a Bears. This is just a remake of the original story of Goldilocks. This book is when the three bears are looking for a singer. They have auditions and they find Goldi on little bear's keyboard. Goldi rocks their socks off and sings for them.
This book would be intended for Kindergartens and first graders. The words are big enough for them to read and the illustrations are really good. The teacher or students could read the book and then they could sing a song to the whole class since this book is about singing. This would be a fun activity for the students.
This book is another version of the classical tale. Story of how the three bears are in a family band, but they're missing a singer who can hit those high notes. Thus, the bears leaves their house to hold auntions for a singer, meanwhile Goldi Locks comes to their homes. While she's there she plays with their instruments and equipment, until the the three bears come back to see Goldi Locks asleep. When she awakes she lets out a scream, which is just what the bears need. Overjoyed the form "Goldi Rocks and the Three Bears" band.
Instead of Goldilocks eating the bear's porridge, breaking their chairs and sleeping on their beds, she she breaks a microphone stand, uses baby bear's pair of headphones, and falls asleep on his keyboard. In the original story the bears went for a walk, but in this version they went to find a Soprano for their band. At the end of the story, they find their Soprano- Goldilocks! In this rhyming book, it is sure to keep readers entertained. The illustrations are also amazing! You are able to see what is happening in every part of the story. There is a contrast of dark colors and yellow tones.
I love this author. Her ninja pig story is so great. It made me a fan, so when I saw this story, I had to read it. It combines good illustrations, with a great author, and with a story spin-off, which I like so much. This one was fun, but I think what held it back for me...held back the great...is that I am not a huge Goldilocks fan. But that is just me. I think students would love it, and it would make for a great discussion and writing connection. :)
Pretty much what you expect from the cover. The bears are a family band. While they're away Goldi just walks right in, tries their instruments and equipment, baby bear's always fit just right, then she falls asleep. The bears return to find their place wrecked. Then it turns out Goldi has the singing voice they were looking for so she joins the band.
Told in limerick style. We like music in our house, so this was a hit.
Cute rhyming story. Can I say cute, cute, cute!!!! I would buy this for the library. Goldi Rocks visits the bear house where she finds a stage and set up for music/show. This is a fun, modern twist on an old tale and kids will love it. Colorful illustrations. Fun and funny! Highly recommended Gr. K-4.
Liked the pictures but not the text. I ended up reading it to her and making up my own words.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Cute illustrations, a smooth-flowing rhyme, and a quirky take on a classic fairy tale (honestly one of my least favorite fairy tales, but always worth a good send-up). Bright illustrations can easily be seen with a storytime crowd, but have some fun details too (the audience of crickets??) Can easily see using this one for a storytime on bears, fairy tales (fractured or otherwise), or music.
A new take on the original "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" fairytale. The three bears start a family band and are in need of one more person. Who do you think becomes part of the band? It's how she gets there that's the fun of reading the book! A good book to add to your collection if you are studying different takes on fairytales.
We have all read about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This story follows that idea but musical instruments are at Gold Rocks' mercy. While the Three Bears are out listening to try-outs for a singer for their band, Goldi Rocks is making a mess in their house. When they return they are upset until they hear her scream. Cute and funny story with great illustrations.
Rounding up to four stars because the rhyme actually works. I mean, usually I don't like to read rhyming picture books out loud, but this is fine... and ppl who do love the rhymes will enjoy them. And, yes, the story is successful. The trespassing is not addressed, but, after all, rock musicians tend to be likely to break a few rules....
I love Schwartz's various fairy tale retellings, and this is another fun one. The bears are looking for a new voice in their band to help them really rock. Could Goldi be just what they need?
I appreciated the cinquain poetry structure which never felt forced. I also liked the clever way Schwartz used the rock n roll band twist to the story. It worked well! I'm still not sure why Goldilocks always has to be a blonde white girl though...
Modern Fantasy Grades K-2 This rocking take on the traditional goldilocks and the three bears story, teaches that just being yourself is enough. In this version, the three bears are looking for who is just right for their band!
