About the author

Trinh Xuan Thuan was born on 20th August, 1948 in Hanoï (Vietnam). He left Hanoi at the age of 6, when Vietnam was divided into two parts at the 17th parallel by the Geneva treaty, signed in 1954. His family then moved to Sàigon, capital of South Vietnam. He pursued his studies in Saigon, at the French high-school Jean-Jacques Rousseau. It is during that period that he acquired the French style that allowed him to write in French such great popular books on astrophysics and cosmology, that are famous not only for their scientific accuracy, but also for their poetic language. He passes with high honors the baccalaureate degree in 1966.

He then went abroad for his higher education. After one year in Switzerland (1966-1967), at the Ecole Polytechnique in Lausanne, he continued his studies in well-known American universities. He obtained his Bachelor of Physics at the California Institute off Technology (Caltech) in 1970, then his PhD in Astrophysics at Princeton University in 1974, under the guidance of the eminent astrophysicist Lyman Spitzer, father of the Hubble space Telescope and one of the pioneers of the physics of the interstellar medium and of plasmas.


Since 1976, he has been a professor of astronomy at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and divides his time between the United States and France. As an invited professor at the University of Paris 7, at the observatory of Paris-Meudon, at the department of astrophysics of Saclay and at the IAP (Institute of astrophysics of Paris) of the CNRS, he collaborates regularly with French scientists.

An astrophysicist internationally recognized for his research in extragalactic astronomy (concerning objects beyond the Milky Way), he is the author of more than 230 articles on the formation and evolution of galaxies, in particular of dwarf galaxies, and on the synthesis of light elements in the Big-bang. His articles are widely referred to in the world.

Observatoire de Kitt Peak en ArizonaFor his astronomical research, he makes use of the largest telescopes on the ground (Kitt Peak, Hawaii, Chile...) and in space (Hubble, Spitzer...). At the end of 2004, thanks to observations made with Hubble, he discovered the youngest known galaxy in the universe (I Zwicky 18) – a discoverery that was amply discussed in the international press.

In addition to his research, he teaches a course at the University of Virginia which is called "Astronomy for Poets". In this course, students with a non-scientitific background have the pleasure of discovering the wonders of the Universe in a non-technical language.

Đã đọc lại nửa đầu quyển sách chắc cũng hơn năm lần vì mình cứ dở dang và...quên mất ý ở mấy trang đầu sau thời gian dài không đụng đến. Nỗ lực ngốn đống kiến thức trong quyển này thật không dễ dàng. Một quyển sách khoa học thường thức nhưng mình nghĩ không phải ai cũng sẽ thích xem vì sẽ cần phải hệ thống lại rất nhiều thứ được đề cập đến. Dù vậy thì cách trình bày cùng tranh và ảnh rất sinh động.

Phần cuối là trích đoạn về Hoàng Tử Bé mình thấy hơi thừa (không biết phải chăng là để chiều độc giả ở nguyên bản tiếng Pháp?). Bắt đầu có lỗi chính tả và lỗi type ở nửa phần cuối của sách khiến mình tiếc nuối vì nó đem lại cảm giác có chút cẩu thả trong khâu biên tập (điều mình hầu như luôn thấy ở các NXB nước nhà).

Mình bỏ dở quyển này trong hai năm trước, một phần vì bản thân bỗng mất hứng thú với chủ đề vật lí thiên văn, phần khác là vì bị phân tán bởi nhiều thứ thú vị bên lề. Thế nhưng đọc xong thì niềm say mê lại được khơi gợi. Vừa đọc, vừa thấy xúc động vì mình được tồn tại.

Yapı Kredi Yayınlarının bu serisini çok seviyorum - Edindikleri konu üzerine basit, görsellerle ve şemalarla destekli ama kapsayıcılığından ödün verilmemiş hap bilgiler sunuyorlar, ve evrenin kozmik sırlarından bahseden kitap da bir istisna değil.

Bir sayısalcı olmama ve kitabın basitleştirilmiş diline rağmen neredeyse yarısını anlamamış olmam aldığım zevki bir nebze azaltmış olsa da, konuyla giriş mahiyetinde ilgilinenlere tavsiye edebilirim kitabı.

Bu serinin bir diğer karakteristik özelliğini eksi hanesine yazmaya devam edeceğim: Baskı kalitesi. Özellikle uzay fotoğrafları söz konusu olduğunda cep boyutundaki kitapta mükemmel olmayan baskı kalitesi maalesef çok sırıtmış

Nội dung sách khá hay, rất nhiều kiến thức về vũ trụ, big bang. M ấn tượng nhất là phần giải thích vũ trụ, trái đất, sự sống đã hình thành như thế nào. Tuy nhiên m ko thích cách trình bày song song 2 cột, và sách thiên về lí thuyết và lượng kiến thức nhiều nên khá khô khan. Phần kết thúc bằng Hoàng tử bé m ko thấy liên quan lắm nhưng rất đáng yêu

Một quyển sách hay nhưng không phù hợp với đối tượng phổ thông, các kiến thức trong sách đòi hỏi người đọc phải có hiểu biết nhất định về vũ trụ, về thiên văn học thì mới có thể hiểu rõ được. Các hiện tượng, thực thể và lịch sử vũ trụ được minh họa bằng cách hình ảnh sống động, sách có thể xem như một bách khoa toàn thư kết hợp với sách ảnh.

Sách viết khá khoa học và bài bản về vũ trụ. Nhiều kiến thức hay, tuy nhiên cách viết do lượng kiến thức nhiều có thể hơi khô khan, m đọc mãi mới hết :))

Bueno, decir que os lo recomiendo muchísimo si queréis iniciaros de forma rápida, sencilla y aun así muy amplia en la Astronomía y, en especial, la Astrofísica. Comencé a leérmelo allá por verano, pero lo aparqué por falta de concentración. Lo retomé en marzo y me lo terminé en tres días.

Aspectos negativos: que sea tan corto. Me hubiese encantado un libro bastante más amplio, porque con el saber de este grandioso astrofísico se podría hacer una obra brutal.

Aspectos positivos: el resto. He aprendido mucho sobre la historia de la Astronomía que en ocasiones se omite, he cogido más mitología que teoría en estos comienzos, aprendí de forma rápida y sencilla el origen del Universo y además clarifiqué conceptos sobre la formación galáctica y el porqué de los tipos existentes. Quizá a ratos en materias más densas, sean por ejemplo los quásares, púlsares y demás, eché de menos más explicaciones, pero siendo un libro divulgativo, para explicar tales cosas se precisaría de, al menos, hojas y hojas de cuántica, relatividad o Astrofísica pura, y claro, el libro se iría distanciando de un nivel medio.

Un puntazo, por cierto, y me encantó, la parte final, con explicaciones de textos de otros autores, la Astronomía y el Universo en la literatura, y otras tantas perlas que merecen mucho la pena y me llevaron a reflexionar porque en la parte lógica iba cojeando, y que me sirvieron para implementar nuevos títulos a mi lista de 'must read'.

Estupendo para ir formando nuevos astrónomos y un interés vital en la materia.

Me gustó bastante por el tema que trata y como lo hace, aún cuando el contenido no es del todo "innovador" es una buena opción si quieres conocimientos básicos y buenas ilustraciones. Aprendí mucho con él.

Cuốn này viết theo kiểu nhập môn, vắn tắt và nhiều hình minh hoạ. Ngày xưa chưa có internet thì chắc đọc rất hay, nhưng giờ có wiki rồi nên ko ấn tượng lắm nữa. Cho trẻ con chắc vẫn tốt. In đẹp, nhưng trình bày vẫn hơi xấu.
