Taking Action: Receiving and Operating in the Gifts and Power of the Holy Spirit

Rate this book
God uses manpower.
We need God’s power.
God works when we work.

Millions of people all over the world have been introduced to Jesus through the ministry of Reinhard Bonnke. In Taking Action he describes how we too can be an extension of God’s love to the world by partnering with the Holy Spirit.

With a firsthand account of the mighty manifestations of God at work today, Bonnke takes a careful look at what Scripture teaches about the anointing and gifts of the Holy Spirit in general and then explains each of the specific gifts listed by the apostle Paul.

Jesus lived, worked, and prayed in the power of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel of John He says, “He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also.” With this same anointing, we can live this way as well.

One star at most, waste of money.

Full of things we already know. Easy said than done advices, hollowing revelations, basically for people who can't understand bible. There are many better books out there, bible for example. One star at most, waste of money.

Reinhard Bonnke could arguably be one of the most wanted men in the kingdom of darkness: Witches hunt him down, sorcerers cast spells against him, and occultists perform satanic rituals to hinder him and his powerful evangelical ministry, Christ for All Nations.

No worries. Bonnke’s detailed study on the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit in his book, “Taking Action,” explains why the enemy’s attempts are “futile against… [this] blood-bought child of God.” Bonnke also stresses that the anointing is for every believer and not for a select few or elite crowd (Joel 2:28).

“Taking Action” is flooded with scriptures, testimonies and detailed research down to the Greek language. If you’re big on cross-referencing, I suggest keeping a Bible nearby while reading, and especially when coming across controversial topics such as speaking in tongues, counterfeit (satanic) gifts and exorcising demons to name a few.

Bonnke’s in-depth focus on each gift of the Spirit is quite impressive. Though, I do not completely agree on all viewpoints. In the chapter on discernment, Bonnke assumes that Christians cannot have a demon: “If our lives are hidden with Christ in God, and we have a demon, then it would mean that the demon hidden in us is also hidden in God! That is unthinkable.”

We are all made up of three parts. Our spirit belongs to God but our soul and body can most definitely be affected by demonic spirits (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Depending on the circumstances (open doors due to sin for example), the spirit-filled Christian has the potential of becoming demonically oppressed (not possessed).

Jesus did a whole lot of healings and deliverances (among other things) that were not written in the Bible (John 21:25). Accompanied with the Word of God, the Holy Spirit is able to reveal deep and secret things (Daniel 2:22) about demonic oppression, witchcraft attacks, deliverance strategies and even expose the enemies’ devices (2 Corinthians 2:11).

For sure, Bonnke is correct when he writes that “…we fight [demons] by preaching the Word of truth.” And regardless of our differences, Bonnke’s zeal for the Word of God is evident as he educates his readers on how to move in the anointing and tap into the various gifts God offers His children. Grab yourself a copy and learn what it means to be unconquerable through the Holy Spirit.

"Today many church leaders deny both the Scriptures and the power of God, something that even the Pharisees did not do. They treat the supernatural gifts as natural talents, tongues as linguistic ability, knowledge as education, and wisdom as psychology. Those who study a miracle book without belief in miracles are foredoomed to failure." (Reinhard Bonnke, Taking Action, Page 121)

Reinhard Bonnke expounds on the 9 gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:

* A Word of Wisdom;
* A Word of Knowledge;
* Faith;
* Healing
* Miracles
* Prophecy
* Discernment;
* Tongues; and
* Interpretation of Tongues.

There were a few things that were different that I found in other books that I found in his. He disagrees with the interpretation from other Christian authors that when the Bible mentions the "gift of healings", healings, in the plural, that it is referring to Christians who specialize in a particular manifestation of healing i.e. some see more deafness being healed, some see more cancer healed, etc. He believes that if you have the gift of healing, you should be able to heal all kinds of sicknesses and diseases and no one specializes...that is what I took from my comprehension of his materials.

Also, he is extremely Pentecostal biased i.e. you require to speak in tongues in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Didn't Jesus say, "you shall know them by their fruits"? He did not say, "you shall know them by their speaking in tongues." I believe that the evidence of being filled with the Spirit is the fruit of the Spirit, not tongues of the Spirit. I agree that tongues is a valid gift in the Bible, but the Pentecostals have elevated it to a position it ought not to be, and it causes division. Like I said in a previous review. I speak in tongues and I have interpreted tongues in my walk with God; however, I do not promote the dogmatic theology that you require to speak in tongues, in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Reinhard Bonnke effectively conveys the truth of God's Word concerning the Holy Spirit in his book, Taking Action. The first part of the book lays out the basics of the Holy Spirit and how He works, while the second part of the book goes in-depth on each gift of the Holy Spirit mentioned by Paul. I thought this book was very well written with rich insights and great testimonies from Bonnke's crusades. A great read for anyone wanting more information on the Holy Spirit and how He works in each believer.

1 Corinthians 14:1 tells us to "pursue love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts," but there are few books that really explain the gifts of the Spirit in practice. Reinhard Bonnke, a great evangelist who has seen God move in miraculous ways, shares amazingly great insight into the workings of the gifts, literally the "manifestation" of God's Holy Spirit moving in our midst. Along with Lester Sumrall's great work, "The Gifts and Ministries of the Holy Spirit," these are great references to have.

Good book, provides valuable information about Christianity. It's not necessarily a literature treatise but it will give you good information if you want to better understand the gifts of the holy spirits and Christianity in general.
