Was the author previously writing Young Adult's fiction ? I kept wondering that while reading, as the main characters's (27 and 30 years old) behavior is without any doubts immature and juvenile; yes it's redondant but their behaviors throughout the story deserve that.
The writing itself is ok but not great : the language is a bit too familiar for my liking, there are lots of repetitions, as if the reader was too stupid to remember. Last detail, all but one of the French recipe names included grammar mistakes.
Anyway, the main problem with this book comes from the characters :
Brian is almost OK, behaves with sense and consistence : he's quite confident and satisfied with his life, just feeling a bit overworked; he'd also liked to have a significant other and create a family, though does not really know how to do that - understandable considering he dated one girl from 18 to 28, almost married her, and worked intensely in the past years.
Thinking of the heroine, Reese, the adjectives that come to my mind are the following : immature, juvenile, irresponsible, whining, self-deprecating, unsatisfied, spineless, so passive, obedient, stupid, insensitive... Yes nothing positive. She's having a Bridget Jones syndrome without having any of the former's fun and humour. She also does not have any friends. She's one of the worst supposedly funny heroine I came across in romances and chick-lit combined.
The last character I did not like was the heroine's mother : invasive, domineering, bad-mannered, major PITA (sorry but that's the best description...). And nobody ever really opposed to her any time. I cannot believe she never received any setdowns sufficient to question her outrageous and selfish behavior.
My first and most probably my last book from this author.

This is the second book that I have read by Jill Winters, the first being Raspberry Crush, but I loved this one just as much. One of the things that I love about both books is how Jill has made the two female protagonists "real" women. What I mean is they aren't the tall, super-model thin types that society has come to associate with beauty but instead these slightly below average height with curves that a woman should be proud of. I could really relate to a character like Reese because I share her body type and height. Not only could I relate to Reese because of her physical features but I felt like I could really relate to her life, especially when it came to school.

In my opinion her romance with Brian was portrayed differently than in most romance novels, at least in many of the romance novels I have read. Normally I feel like couples in romance novels establish a relationship many times but something gets in the way causing problems for the couple and resulting in them getting angry at the other and breaking it off, before finally they get together after all of the problems have been resolved. With Reese and Brian it seemed that they didn't truly get together until after their problems were resolved first and prior to that they mostly flirted with one another instead of immediately trying to pursue a relationship. Then again this is most likely due to the fact that the problems they had to deal with were other men/women they had been interested in but it still made for an interesting story that kept my attention and had me finishing the book in three days!

Blushing Pink by Jill Winters

This was a good story.

The description of the book I am listing below is from the back jacket of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict this story.

Reese Brock is sleep-deprived, sex-deprived, and fun-deprived. But all that is about to change.

With one sister already maritally enhanced and another halfway down the aisle, twenty-seven-year-old Reese Brock fears her own life has taken a turn for the absurd. She's trapped in a Ph.D. program she can't stand, the bookstore she loved as a customer is now loathsome as a part-time employee, and—as her meddlesome mother is fond of pointing out—she is undeniably single. She's pretty sure she can't count the uncomfortably sensuous thoughts she's having about charming and sexy Brian Doren—a man she'd kissed two years ago at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve—as dating. Brian is going to be the best man at her sister's wedding, and rumor has it that he's broken off his engagement. Now all Reese has to do is make sure that her little sister gets down the aisle, the world gets off her case, and she gets the guy of her dreams...

You know that friend who spends a lot of time complaining about how fat and disgusting she is because she's a size 8? Now, imagine another friend who has no backbone and lets everyone in her life walk all over her...and then complains about it constantly to you. Combine those two obnoxious people and you have the heroine of this book. I found her incredibly frustrating and only finished the book b/c I was on a plane with nothing else to read. On a more positive note, the author does a good job creating hilariously awful characters to torture the heroine (her mom, her professor, her boss, her kinda boyfriend) and those scenes can be funny. The teenybopper dictator/supervisor at the bookstore is especially inspired. But waiting until the last few pages for the heroine to stand up to at least a few of these people was excruciating. As others pointed out, there are a lot of sex scenes. But they are all exactly the same, just in different locations. This was my first book by Jill Winters, and I think it will be my last.

More of a 2 1/2 stars than a full 3. Jill Winters's comic romance about a graduate student facing an existential and romantic crisis in the face of her younger sister's upcoming wedding--ok maybe that's a bit extreme--is engaging but not all that believable. I could have done without the fairly graphic sex scenes, which seemed really out of place.

There was literally NOTHING else to read. And yet - a reader will read whatever is there, doggedly continuing even when it is clear that the book is Not Worth It(tm)!

All Jill Winters books are very similar but are great for a fast and fun read. The typical love, thriller, and mystery type of book. After you read one you will want to read them all.

This is pornography in book form. I'm not much of a connoisseur of chick lit, but this is what I imagine bored, lonely housewives buying in grocery stores and reading alone in the dark. Yikes.

Really enjoyed this one. It was very refreshing to read a romance with "normal" everyday characters. Will definitely be reading others by the same author. Nice easy read.

Started off really well light and full of fun but towards the end the book was padded out with numerous sexual encounters which lost the fun aspect
