Didn't think I would like this one. It sat on my shelf for months. Picked it up to read because I needed a small paperback to last me until my next book. Loved it! Great surprise and easy to read!

A good romantic suspense that I enjoyed more than I expected to. When Julia Bradshaw's husband Paul is murdered she's finds herself to be the prime suspect - & her ex-father-in-law Charles is sure she's guilty.

When Steve Reyes, an ex-reporter, hears a rumour that Irish terrorists Gleic Eire may be responsible, he heads up from Florida. He has a vested interest in the group as 8 years before they killed his fiancee in a terrorist bombing - a young woman who just also happened to be Charles Beadshaw's daughter....making things even more complicated!
As Julia desperately tries to clear her name, Steve encourages her to trust him to help - but all the while withholding his connection to Bradshaw family....

This moves at a good pace with a good mix of suspense & romance. While it's so obvious that Julia will discover Steve's "secret" the build up to it is created nicely & keeps you entertained.

This was a disappointing read. The cover promised thrills and romance, and we basically got a very watered-down version of both. The mystery aspect of this had a core idea that was pretty good, but was executed so poorly that I'd lost interest by the time the reveal happened.

The title and synopsis lead you to believe that our main character Julia will be having an active role in unraveling the mystery of who killed her ex-husband. She'll have to trust no one and rely on her instincts to figure out who really did it.......Yeah, neither of those happen. She's too busy trying to run her Inn and take care of her son to do anything even remotely interesting. No research, no spying, no thrills. Mostly just domestic things like menu planning and watching her son play catch with her new guest, Steve. Who happens to be a reporter "hot on the case" trying to solve her ex-husband's murder because rumor has it, it might have been committed by the same terrorist cell that killed his fiance 8 years ago.

Ahh, ok so he's who will provide the intrigue and thrills! ....Ehhhh, wrong again. He mostly hangs around the Hacienda Inn, writing his articles and flirting with Julia. The times he goes out trying to do something regarding the mystery are spread out so far that it feels more like a domestic contemporary story most of the time.

Ok, so this is a romance with just a pinch of mystery, ok ok. Nope! Wrong again. Their relationship takes a glacier pace, and when it finally heats up it feels unsatisfying and dull. There are also a few random spots where there could have been some built-up tension that was never spoken about. Like when he suddenly kisses her while they are out walking. No inside thoughts about how either of them felt about it. It just happens, end of paragraph. Ummm...was she surprised? Taken aback Pleased? We don't know. Did he do it because she looked especially sexy just then? Could he not contain himself any longer? Meh, who knows.

The mystery part had 1 good twist at the end that I didn't see coming, but again...it took so long to get there that I just didn't care by the time we got there. Especially fresh off of Julia's extreme over-reaction to

Basically, it was an "ok" book with an "ok" idea that could have been flushed out to be a lot more exciting than it actually was.
