Rue has had enough. If he wanted to listen to terrible metal bands at top volume all day, he would work in a music store instead of his own shop. Being stuck next door to said music store makes his job unbearable, and Rue is rapidly running out of patience. But when he finally does and goes next door to address the problem once and for all, he winds up with a different problem altogether.

Cute little story. Most of it was about the loud music being played in the store next door. Complaints are made and a first date ensues on Valentine's Day.
This is part of the Kiss Me Quick bundle from Less Than Three. It is a very short story of Rue, who owns a “trinket” (travel items) shop and his new neighbor, Jocelyn. Rue’s former shop neighbor was a little old lady who owned a Christian bookstore. Jocelyn’s new shop is a music store, and that music is blared at high decibel level all day long, rattling Rue’s brain. In addition, Jocelyn or his employee keep taking Rue’s parking space. When Jocelyn goes over in a fit of tantrum to complain, he is faced with a sexy, honey-voiced dream of a man, and he leaves without mentioning the noise. When it happens again, however, and he goes over again and this time faces Gray, the assistant, he yanks the power cord and goes back to his shop. The confrontation between himself and Jocelyn then happens in his own shop. This is a story of a new beginning, wherever it may take them. Cute and short and fluffy.
This short story features a wonderful glimpse in the life of an uptight shop owner, Rue and his new neighbor Jocelyn who disturbs his peace with constantly loud music.
However, things take an interesting turn when Rue decided to pay his neighbor a visit after his patience is pushed to breaking point.
I recently enjoyed Isabella Carter's work because she has a way of creating a wonderful interaction between her characters that leave me emotionally invested in them.
Although there's the insta-love factor going on which normally offends me, the story was enjoyable enough to be forgiven.
This is a cute little story of the nerd and hot guy. Rue runs a little gift shop, and his new neighbour, the music store, is making him crazy. The walls are thin and the constant pounding of the music is driving him around the bend. Finally, he’s had enough, and he is going to do something about it, however the minute he sees the guy at the counter, he’s sunk. He’s exactly Rue’s type, way to cool for Rue, and he basically clams up and stammers his way through introductions, but the result is the music is turned down – so they could talk – temporarily.
However a few days later it’s louder than ever, and he’s once again reached his limit, only this time it’s a young man working, and in a hissy he rips the cord from the wall. I was chuckling over poor Rue’s frustration. However when the store owner shows up to ask what is going on, Rue freezes up, and winds up accepting a date from the guy, to his own surprise, and his female employees delight. He’s not even sure it is a “date”, although the fact that the dinner is scheduled for Valentine’s Day makes it pretty clear to his friend.
Dinner is just a chance for them to get to know each other and there is no graphic content. The story ends just as they decide to see each other again, so rather a nice “probably HEA” for the two. Sometimes with such books I think “I want more”, but in this case I was fine with where it ended. There was no great drama to work out in their relationship, the music and resulting pique on Rue’s part, was a catalyst for bringing them together, but I could imagine them dating and just going along being regular guys, in a regular relationship, without much drama. So I think in this case, it ended in an appropriate place given their characters.
A sweet quick read as it only takes about 15 minutes to finish, but a nice little treat when you’ve got a few minutes to kill.
Rue has a problem. The new store next to his is blaring its music so loud he can't think, and the new owner is taking his parking spot. What is a guy to do? When he can't stand it anymore, he rushes over to confront the owner and meets Jocelyn. Green eyes, triple earrings and oh so hot. Now he has a new problem.
This was such a cute story, perfect for Valentine's Day. There are really only 4 characters in the whole story, all well done in such a short length. I could feel Rue's frustration building as the heavy metal pounded through the walls, and his snarky assistant rolling her eyes at her boss. Short, sweet but not sappy.
At 3,800 words, it is part of the Kiss Me Quick collection of short stories celebrating love from Less Than Three Press. If the rest of the collection is as sweet as this one, I can't wait to read them. Great for Valentine's Day or any day where love is in the air.
Cover: The cover is just a picture of storefronts. I wish that a little bit more of imagination had been used to make it more relevant to the story.
Cute opposites attract story about a straight-laced trinket shop owner and his very loud new neighbor -- a dead sexy record shop owner named Jocelyn who can't seem to be able to turn his music down.
Perfect for a cute Valentine's story -- ending with a very content and hopeful HFN.
