3.5. Two supporting players in Spider-Girl's universe got their own origin three-parters, here combined. Buzz's origin is fun, though stock. Darkdevil's is just outright loonie — he's the son of Spider-Man's clone Ben Reilly, partially possessed by the demon Zarathos, but saved by the spirit of Matt Murdock. But I liked the loopiness of it.

Great addition to the world of Spider-Girl. If the Dark Devil story would have stuck the landing a little better, this would have been a solid 4 stars. Definitely around a 3.5 and great to get origin stories for these two characters.

Essential reading for anyone who's been following Spider-Girl, as many of the mysteries set up in that title are cleared up in the two mini-series collected here. Unlike the other Spider-Girl Presents books like Juggernaut Jr, Avengers Next and Fantastic Five, which were M2 titles that ran in parallel to Spider-Girl, these are true spin-offs. The stories, to be honest, are nothing spectacular, and they lack the soap-opera elements that make Spider-Girl such an addictive read, but the various revelations about the origins of the Buzz and Darkdevil are quite eye-opening.

The Buzz part was much, much better than the Darkdevil part. The Darkdevil part had way too many moving pieces that didn't seem to tie directly together.

On the one hand, much of the stuff here was total cliche. But on the other, I bought it. I would have read a Buzz series if there were a Buzz series.
