In exchange for a burger and a chocolate shake, Shan’s elderly neighbor, Mr. Parker, lures him away from a day of video games with talk of seeing zombies on television and going to kill them. As they get further from home, Shan becomes more and more concerned that Mr. Parker has gone from amusingly eccentric to crazy...
Road Trip is an 8500 word (roughly 34 book pages) humorous, character-driven (in more ways than one!) story with a dash of horror and a side of nostagia for classic cars.
Well written but did not appeal to me, November 18, 2017

This review is from: Road Trip: A 21st Century MONSTER HUNTERS Tale (Kindle Edition)
I read this free zombie story, even though zombie lit is not one of my favorites, because I have really enjoyed two of the three Blake the Good Guy stories by Tanner. I did not find this zombie story as appealing. It lacks the quirky humor of the Blake stories and I did not find the two protagonists to be likeable or they and their situations to be appealing. I suspect that this is merely a matter of personal taste as the story is technically well written. Three stars for my level of interest in the story. Four stars for the writing.
I highly enjoyed reading this tale. It was quite an interesting take on monster hunting, and reminded me of the Supernatural boys. I can't wait to read more of these twos adventures.
When I originally purchased this (for free) I was under the impression that it was horror. I read a couple reviews after the fact, that cleared up the fact that no, it was not really horror. But with only being 24 pages, I decided, what the heck, I might as well give it a read anyhow.
The story starts off a little garbled. Old guy watching tv, thinks there are zombies due to daytime TV talk shows. So, he goes and grabs his neighbors kid to come help him hunt down the "zombies" that he saw on TV. Kid thinks he's nuts, but goes along for the ride.
Quite frankly, I was a little bored even in the beginning, and while its only 25 pages it took me awhile to get through, when I finally picked it up again I had to restart from the beginning. I wasn't impressed or really all that entertained.
I guess for a short story, its ok, but sorry to say, nothing really special or memorable.
I think the title and image on this book may give someone the idea that it's a slasher. It's not.
This short will likely appeal to someone who is into weird tales. Basically something fantastic is put into the real world and treated as if it's somewhat normal. That's the setting in a manner of speaking.
The story though does follow a small boy and an old man as the old man sets out to kill some zombies he saw on a Jerry Springer like talkshow. There are quite a few good scenes and overall I enjoyed the writing.
The climax was interesting. If you like weird, you should check it out.
