God's Heart for the Nations Paperback January 26, 2015

Rate this book
God's Heart for the Nations rips apart the old, traditional understandings of God's plan and purpose for our lives. In eight lessons, author and global activist, Jeff Lewis, lays bare the heart and mind of God as he combines powerful Bible passages with challenging and provocative questions. Each lesson is followed by a time of meditation (Selah) and a focus on an unreached people group. If you really knew the heart and mind of God, would you dare to follow him?

A workbook, not a book, with study questions making up ~50% of the content, reference material not included, and very little in the way of original exposition.

If a person has come to think - or been taught to think - that Christianity is somehow ethnocentric, this short guide will certainly disabuse them. But so would familiarity with the Christian scripture, or a general knowledge of world history.

Such a good study on where our foundations should be when we begin to approach global missions. I led this study at my church and the conversation was incredibly fruitful. I kind of wish it was a bit more group friendly, which is why I knocked a star off. But overall the content is incredible! Highly recommend if you are introducing global missions into the culture of your church.

This has been a super helpful resource for Matthew and I as we push towards the missions field. It takes a biblicl theological approach on how the Lord uses his blessings towards his people for the purpose of his glory-calling every nation, tribe and tongue to himself. Highly recommend if you’re like me and need to see the dots be connected throughout the Bible not just Matthew 28 as a reference to why churches need to be planted!

[One point deducted because there were some typos and some links didn’t work.]

This was a really thought-provoking short study of God’s global purpose and our call to be involved. Emphasis was that God’s purpose is making His name and excellencies known among the nations. That has to be our primary motivation in missions -- not man’s need (though that is great!), but spreading the fame and glory of the Creator. I also really appreciated that it incorporated unreached people group profiles and websites to get more info. As a geography teacher at a Christian school, I think I will be able to use this book as a resource in my classroom. Additionally, as someone who has recently been pondering and praying about being more directly involved in global missions, this gave me a lot of direction in how to pray and think going forward. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a more robust understanding of the Great Commission.

Most of this study is reading scripture and responding to guided questions, but there were small sections of writing from the author. Here are a few favorite quotes from those passages:

“One of the blessings of our salvation is that we have been liberated from the slavery of living for self so that we might live engaged in His mission.”

“God’s mission relates to His call to intimacy.”

“…God does all things for His name, renown, and glory. This is His mission. … When this passion becomes the driving force in your life, then mission trip experiences and information about the needs of the nation can lead you to make wise decisions, not decisions based on guilt or momentary excitement.”

This is a study book to help people recognize God and His Heart for the Nations. The book is designed with the idea that the reader would be looking up scriptures, responding to them and discover more about God and His heart for all people.

this book completely changed my view on how i read scripture. it turned my view of the Bible from a collection of books into a complete story. this book reveals how the great commission started in Genesis & reveals the central point of every story in the Bible. in doing that, it reveals our entire purpose as followers of Christ: to worship the Lord & enjoy Him. this book shows how our call to make the Lord’s Name known among the nations is riddled throughout scripture, it’s in every story.

this is a workbook, so it’s interactive & thought provoking. it’s not one to just read, so prepare yourself to think when reading this.
