Scarlet Hyacinth was born in 1986, in a Romania still struggling under the weight of the communist regime. As a young girl, she started studying the English language and fell in love with books.
After a childhood spent devouring hundreds of pages of fantasy literature, Scarlet found her calling. While at uni, she discovered with the help of a dear friend that she had a knack for writing. The rest, as they say, is history, or rather, lots of hard work and sleepless nights. Today, she can only say with a smile that nothing is impossible and that no matter what others say, you can achieve your dreams if you work hard enough.

This book has almost every trope known to shifter stories worldwide in it, and guess what? I gobbled it right up!

Poor abused Blue (you know one of them has to come from an abusive family), ever since his change he's been locked in a room and physically tortured by his father and his mother does nothing to help him.
His only solace are the dreams of his golden-eyed lover, dreams so real they keep him sane.
Wallace is a lone wolf( of course he is), grew up in an orphanage (of course he did) where these special children are taken care of until they are grown.
Wallace and Blue run in to each other and there is an immediate attraction ( I know, I know..shocking! ) after minor drama Wallace has his baby Blue ( oh does he have him! again and again..) of course they are mates, I mean, they have been dreaming of each other for years.
This causes some changes in both of them and more drama..and more sex.
So, small little baby Blue butterfly-shifter ( which I think is cool, and wished I had seen more of him like that) is rescued and saved by his big bad bravehearted lone wolf-shifter and they screwed lived happily ever after.
And you know, I liked it so much that I will definitely read more of these.

typical Scarlet Hyacinth serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical Scarlet Hyacinth? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).

out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all serials by UNLESS motivated otherwise by markedly good/bad writing:
Scarlet Hyacinth
joyee flynn
sunny day
lynn hagen
stormy glenn
carol lynne
gabrielle evans

i'd apologize for said halfassedness, but i'm not sorry.

What color is bubblegum blue? I do not think of bubblegum as being blue.

Wow wow wow; strong capable important women! They must be evil.

If this happens to him all the time, why is he near death this time?

Why did Blue say he would be naked if he shifted back but Wallace keeps being clothed after he shifts?

Too much sex but what should I expect in a series with this name?

Bad guy dealt with off page by someone else. That's annoying and anticlimactic.

Interesting to have a universe where the shifter world isn't organized or very knowledgeable.

Called it.

This started off with great peril, angst, and world building but then it kind of fizzled into same old same old complete with an OTT villain.

Imagine a world where lunar and solar events had an astonishing effect and created shape shifters. Different events create different types of shifters. Where you are located on the planet, the time of year, everything has a unique effect that determines your other shape. Now imagine that the condition is not known. It's a secret so anyone born this way is viewed as a freak, something abnormal. It paints a bleak picture. This is how it is for Blue. Blue has blue hair hence the name, which by itself is not terrible. However, he also has a pair of butterfly wings he cannot control. His parents hide him away. One day he escapes and is found by Wallace, a wolf shifter with knowledge of a group of people who help people affected by the S.S.E.X factor.

What’s more, Wallace is Blue’s mate. They meet, fall in love, and have their trials to overcome, namely a mad scientist and an out for revenge father.

The plot line is interesting. This is the first time I’ve seen a series that basis shape shifting abilities on the position of the sun and moon, what events were happening and where the person was in the world as a determination for what animal, bird, insect, etc shape they have. Unique is definitely getting harder to find. The story moved a little fast. At fewer than 40,000 words, it is a quick read but I would have liked to see a bit more. Events did not have as much detail as I would like. The romantic scenes were definitely detailed but even they felt a little hurried.

I also would have loved a bit more character development. It was there, it was smooth, but there could have been more especially since this is the first book in a series. It sets the tone for what to expect with the rest of the book.

Overall, the story was good, well thought out, unique, a quick read. The plotline was consistent as was character development if a little shallow on the details. I would definitely read it again, definitely read future books in the series and definitely recommend it for anyone tired of the usual shape shifter, paranormal romance routine.

B&N Synopsis:

"Blue has always considered himself an anomaly, a freak. Always watched by his parents, he lives a hopeless existence due to his butterfly wings. With Wallace's support, can Blue become a beautiful, bright butterfly, or will he forever be trapped in the cocoon of his own pain?"

The odd idea of developing characteristics - of all things - of a butterfly - and then being mated to a wolf - well, we don't read these things for our mental health, admittedly. The ridiculous builds upon crazy. They've been dreaming of each other for years, so of course, the first thing to happen after they meet is - after Blue's little episode - to have sex.

OK, I better stop there. For what it is, the book isn't so bad. It's a quick read, plot is ok, nothing spectacular. Characters are ok. Blue is timid in some things, fierce in others. Get past the implausible plot and setting, and everything is ok.

This was cute, but a little silly. The S.E.X. factor? Please.

I really liked Blue and Wallace, but I kind of wanted more of HOW they were dreaming of each other?

My heart ached for Blue though. Could you imagine? Makes me sick.

I am interested in Raven and Lowell's story, but not sure when I'll get to it.

Note: The syndrome seems to be able to appear everywhere (the Goldwin twins were conceived in a trip around the world) but nobody know about it. The first time that the kid transform in his beast he doesn't have the control of it, some have to transform in public. Writer of fantasy seems to easily forget how the world work.

Blue wear the clothes of...? He doesn't have anything when he quit his home.

I really loved this book. It was a beautiful, inspiring story about survival, redemption, love, trust, and self-acceptance...Blue was heartbreaking, delicate and exquisite. Wallace was powerful, masculine and protective. Together, they were the perfect combination of love, lust, tenderness and passion. Through their bond, they lived dreams and beheld miracles.

A fairy tale for adults only...Perfect protagonists. Explosive sexual content featured in graphic detail...What's not to love?

Oh Scarlet, you make my heart sing! This is another series I will be following along with mate or meal. Please make more m-m romances with manageable angst as you are fantastic with them.

I am not big on menages or multiple partners. Your Kaldor saga made me cry a bit too much.

I think this is an interesting start to a new series, I like the idea of what makes the shape shifters into what they are. I did get a bit tired of the nicknames they had for each other (I'm not a big nickname/pet name type of person) but did enjoy it. Looking forward to future installments.

This book was similar to other shifter books. The only thing I can think of that set it apart was the mythology; in this world, shifters are a result of DNA anomalies that happen during conception during solar and lunar events. It's a creative idea!

A cute story. There are a few inconsistencies and some unbelievable parts. Still it's a warm story that is fun to read:)
