Makenna Wilkensen has had many names and many identities since being cast to earth and remade into a vampire. Her latest assumed identity is that of an Independent bookstore owner. It's under this guise that she meets author Gabe Anderson. Intrigued by his resistance to her supernatural allure, Makenna offers to host a book signing at her store to keep him conveniently close.
Determined to have more to talk about than table placement, she decides to read his novel. This simple decision changes everything, though, because his fictional characters are all too familiar. The names may have changed, but there's no mistaking the true identity of the key players in the novel, just as there is no denying the fact that his fiction comes all too close to the hidden truth of Heaven's fallen angels.
Makenna is a fallen angel. Cast out of heaven by God and cursed by 'the Beast', she now lives and works amongst humans, with one huge difference. Makenna's curse means that she carries within her a demon she calls 'the darkling', a being who takes over her body causing her to grow talons and fangs. The darkling has superior strength and superior senses, which Makenna can use to her advantage, the problem is that the darkling is a vampire, and Makenna must drink human blood every now and then to keep it happy and satisfied. If she allows it to become hungry, then she risks losing control of her body.
Gabe is an english professor who has written a book about fallen angels and vampires. He meets Makenna, who owns a bookstore, and she decides to read his book before he does a book signing event in her store. After reading the book Makenna is shocked and angry. She knows that the story is not a work of fiction, but instead the life story of her best friend and fallen angel Abriana, and she sets out to ask Gabe where Abriana is as she has been missing for many years.
Confronting Gabe it soon becomes clear that he doesn't know where Abriana is, and truly believed his book to be fiction. Makenna is far from happy about this though, she knows that if she recognised Abriana's story in Gabe's book, that it will not be long before another demon comes to the same conclusion, and that Gabe is now in danger.
Taking Gabe under her wing, Makenna strives to keep him out of trouble and out of harms way, although this is obviously more difficult than she thought, and she soon ends up with much bigger problems on her hands when Abriana's old lover turns up.
This book is an interesting twist on the vampire idea, but to be honest the vampire stuff is almost secondary to the main storyline, so don't be put off if you're not the biggest fan of vampire stories!
There are a few errors in the text, but it doesn't detract from the story. One thing I did find a bit annoying was that there wasn't much explanation as to what the story actually WAS in Gabe's book, so you sort of felt like you were missing something while you were reading, but overall was a good read and a good storyline. 4 out of 5
**3.5 stars** I've read my fair share of vampire books and I like the little twist Regina puts in hers. You have your fallen angel Mckenna...Well when you become a fallen you end up as some sort of "demon" In McKenna's case she's a vampire, others are werewolves and such...you get it. And I thought that was a really cool different idea. Reading this book I get the impression that a vampire can't be made like other series and only Fallen Angels can. So anyways I liked that. Now with that being said this story is about Makenna, a Fallen Angel, who owns a book store. In walks in this Professor who just happens to be tall dark and handsome! And with lovely blue eyes =) He recently published a book and Makenna wants to get to know this Professor, aka Gabe, a little bit more so she offers the idea of doing a book signing at her store. Well after Makenna reads Gabe's story she realizes the book is based on true life...it's about another Fallen Angel and it was Makenna's best-friend...A best-friend whom she hasn't' seen in ooh lets say 300 years or so? (if I remember that right). The only thing Gabe does in his book is change the name of characters. Now how does Gabe know this? Well Makenna is going to find out. It seems Makenna isn't the only one who wants to find out what Gabe knows. The Fallen Angel from the book hasn't been seen by anyone in a really long time and everyone now wants to know where she is and why on Earth Gabe, a human, knows this. So what does Gabe know and what does this all mean for Makenna??
My only thing about this book is it left me with some questions...Well I guess not really questions but maybe some things I just would have liked to have seen. I would have liked to know a little bit more about the Fallen Angel Abrianna's story more. You get a sense of things like who she was, what she was to Makeena, what they endured but I just would have liked a little more as to what was actually in Gabe's book. I feel like some things were just left unsaid as well. So I'm hoping there is going to be a sequel that will explain things. Like When I got to about 30-35% in the book is when things really picked up. And then the last half of the book was just awesome. I loved all the action. I don't think I've ever read a book with this much action! There were times I couldn't put it down because I wanted to know what happened next. I also liked at certain points in the book how the author doesn't go into detail about some gruesome acts that happen. You know what happens and you can use your imagination. And the time moved fast and I liked that as well. So in the end I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to another one.
Angels of the Heart is a well-written Christian romance that will appeal to anyone looking for a true, clean romance. It has some light mentions of God and His inspiration in our daily lives, but otherwise isn 19t a preachy story at all. It portrays great imagery of people and especially of the place where the story takes place. Maryanne Lynch is host at one of the TV stations in Sterling Lakes. Her love for people and the quaint town has made her the best in the market. After a particular segment she did about the renovation of the parish in the town, she not only finds a problem with it, but also finds out that all things in our past come back to haunt us. The presence of the real estate developer, Travis Collimore, in town is a two edged knife. Once, Maryanne stood Travis up many years ago for their Senior Prom. Now, he has come back to destroy a landmark that is entrenched very deeply in the lives of the townspeople and in her own heart. Yet, what can you do alone against a corporation that has the means and people to get what they want? It is at this time that Maryanne feels once again the touch of God in her heart. Years before her unanswered prayers for her now dead brother prompted her to not believe in Him anymore. Now, with a re-found love for God, she hopes that she will save the historic landmark of Sterling Lakes, and also save her heart before they are both buried by the handsome Travis Collimore. As you close it 19s last pages, this story will leave you content and rewarded. It will be well liked by young adults to adults alike for it 19s clean, warming, and wholesome story.
