This book is mainly for people who are starting out on social media. But there are still nuggets for more seasoned online entrepreneurs.

Social Media has made it possible to reach many more people, at a much lower cost, than ever before. But this also means that people are faced with a huge flood of information every day. For someone trying to spread a particular message--whether a traditional commercial advertisement, a political campaign, or a fundraiser--the questions raised by this new communications world are many: how to craft a message, how does this media differ from traditional media, and most importantly, how do you reach your target audience. Hlinko sets out to answer these questions.

And he does a pretty good job. The problem with a book like this is that it's potential audience has a huge range of experience with social media--from this who have only vaguely heard of it, to those who are already actively engaged. He pitches the book to those who have a very basic awareness (he begins with the basic: how to set up an account on twitter). As a result, I found some of the intro stuff far too basic. However, he quickly moves into a discussion of crafting your message, engaging people, and ultimately how to work towards going viral.

As a good overview, this is a perfect book. It takes you from ground zero to a pretty sophisticated understanding of strategy. But some parts, like crafting your message, and working with "multipliers" get sorter shrift than I would have liked. In the end, the advantage of books like this is less the specific information they provide than the opportunity they provide for reflecting in a critical way on what I am currently doing, and what I could do better.

Well worth the time to read (and by the way, it is quite well written, has a nice almost breezy style, and is a pretty quick read), but is only a step toward the goal of successfully using social media, not the "bible."

“Share Retweet Repeat: Get Your Message Read and Spread” by John Hlinko is a good book to help generate ideas and strategies to get whatever message you have out in front of more people. Technology has made viral marketing not only free, but a great way to reach more people than ever thought possible years ago. The key is to get people to help spread your message through these new channels, and that is what this book is about.

There are chapters on websites, blogs, e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter, the keys you will need to focus on to get your message out to the most people. But this book doesn't just provide guidance on what tools to use, it also contains strategies to make better messages to help them go viral.

The book also has chapters on the right messengers to help your efforts, as well as chapters on different paid advertising such as Google Adwords, and others, to assist with your marketing efforts.

It's an easy book to read with some sound and practical advice to reaching more people through the different technological channels we have available today. I'd encourage anyone wanting to get their message out to more people to check out this quick read. It just might be what you need to create your viral campaign.

I was initially concerned that the title of this book was actually a spoiler. I mean really, why open it? The title says it all, "Share, Retweet, Repeat", it's simple. What kind of writer gives away the secret in the title? But all of my concerns were allayed when I cast those concerns aside and dove in to actually ready the book. And I was happy to find there was very much more behind that title, with some useful nugget of info or tip on every page. And I read literally every page (well OK, maybe not all of the index). Anyway, great advice delivered entertainingly. I hope to meet the author one day!

Hlinko's book is a great (and funny) starting point for folks looking to get expand their reach with digital/social media. Not the best read for professionals already in the digital business world, but it provides a good reminder, and I did pick up a few tips I hadn't thought of before.

Even though many of the points here have been covered by other authors (most admirably by Kristen Lamb) there are some great caveats here about promoting your work or business. Great tips here for the no-budget, small budget and big budget.

This book is a good starting point for businesses to understand how to get their message spread throughout the interest. The book is geared more towards (small) businesses than just the common person.
