It is easy to believe that power, influence, and leadership are gifts given to a special few, and that you are not on that short list. But the Bible says otherwise.
We all long for significance, even as we fear we will never be good enough. We listen for God, but hear only voices of doubt and practicality. Listen again. There is a call that only you can answer.
Clout is power and influence. It is an undeniable trait that opens doors and moves mountains. You have it, and you can use it to change the world around you. With Scripture and stories from her own life, Jenni Catron maps out the pitfalls and clear paths on the way toward discovering and unleashing your own clout.
This is not a quest of power for power s sake. Influence is not a guarantee of fame or fortune. It is an opportunity to use your gifts to do the extraordinary. This is a journey toward discovering your God-given clout and using it to answer God s calling on your life.
Learn about Jesus and others who sought to lead like him. Stop dreaming and start planning. Define your direction, set your goals, and confront the challenges that stand between you and the person God made you to be. Step into your sphere of influence with the humble confidence of Christ.Don t hide. We need you. Discover your clout here.
In Clout, Jenni Catron has written a book that helps leaders — particularly women — identify the roadblocks that keep us from becoming the fullness of who God created us to be. The book’s key premise is that when we discover and unleash our God-given influence (our “clout”), we position ourselves to lead with passion and purpose that defy our personal limitations. But we can’t do that when we are handicapped by fear, comparison, jealousy, scarcity, insecurity, pride and control.
Through illustrations and scriptural citations, Catron uncovers some hidden ways these “clout killers” can erode at our influence for God. She then offers simple steps to clear away those roadblocks and provides practical next steps to intentionally grow in the areas of identity, confidence, mission and passion.
I’m a word lover, and Jenni’s writing is full of rich phrases I wanted to stop and linger on. (“Fear raises the question, comparison measures how we stack up to others, jealousy counts what we stand to lose, scarcity makes us defensive, and insecurity begins to unravel any ounce of confidence we have left.”)
“Clout” encourages us to discover more about the One who designed us so we can responsibly unleash the influence He’s given us. Catron urges us to “quit defining limitations for ourselves and instead allow God to define the course he intends for us to take.”
This book belongs on the shelf of every woman ministry leader. Better yet, I’m keeping two copies of on my shelf: one for myself, and one to pass along to the women I mentor.
How can I protect my God-given gift, and even grow it? Jenni Catron's blunt honesty helps you evaluate where you need grow. Her point that stress can be eliminated by simply asking if God's Word is true or not, hit home. God put us here for a purpose, don't let society's "norms" slow you down or cause you to waver.
A warm, engaging, practical, and honest assessment of things that help and hinder a leader. Should be required reading for anyone who may be thinking of stepping into the leadership arena.
Clout – Discover and Unleash Your God-Given Influence by Jenni Catron “You have Clout. Have you discovered it yet? We all long for significance, even as we fear we will never be good enough. We listen for God, but hear only voices of doubt and practicality. Listen again. There is a call that only you can answer.”
Who are you? And who has God called you to be? These are the questions posed by this author, Jenni Catron. By was of her life story, we are introduced to Clout. First by walking the reader through what Clout is actually all about and unpack some false assumptions and perceptions about it. In addition, she goes on to say that we, you and I, have a specific purpose, a calling that only you are qualified to fulfill. And those once we define, understand and acknowledge the seven Clout killers that are holding us back, we can move on to discover what our God-given influence looks like.
Once we discover and let loose our God-given influence, we will then find ourselves ready to lead with a determination that will defy any limits we have placed on ourselves by using the four Clout Cultivators.
This is a great book that breaks down misconceptions about power and influence and the traps that are set to keep us from using that God-given influence to tap into our strengths and overcome our fears to understand and unleash our own Clout. When I first saw the title, I thought of the website, Klout, which measures your social influence. The book, Clout, measures your God-given influence. In the introduction, Cantron said:
I review for BookLook Bloggers"Clout is the influence that God has given you and to no one else. You are specifically designed to impact the world in a way that no one else can. Discovering your clout is an essential part of unleashing your purpose." atron also said everyone has their own range of influence. Some people are here to influence the world, while others may just influence a small group of friends. She also said our clout has to be developed. Undeveloped clout or misdirected clout can cause mayhem.
The first part of the book focuses on the Clout Killers, while the second half focuses on the Clout Cultivators. r me, I struggle with finding what my purpose is. The book does have discovery steps or questions/ideas for reflection at the end of each chapter. For example, one of the questions in Chapter 2 is "for one day, write down every time you are tempted to compare yourself to others. Keep a detailed journal of the people who you compare yourself too and why?
Organized into multiple parts, this book first helps the reader explore the personal history behind habits and thought patterns and then delves deeper into how to adjust them to make a greater impact in the world for good. While it is presented as a book of practical applications, I found it heavily weighted toward a philosophical perspective more than a practical and applicable one. If it had been presented as such, then my rating would likely be a little higher. The practical application comes after much philosophical and psychological exploration, and cannot stand alone. Even when you finally arrive at the practical stage of the book, it is deeply intertwined with philosophy. I love philosophy and enjoyed the process, but I came away from this book feeling that it ultimately failed to offer what it claimed.
Here is an excerpt from my review: "I had no idea there were so many things I was doing that were holding me back, what Catron calls Clout Killers: fear, comparison, jealousy, scarcity, insecurity, pride, and control. This book definitely makes you take a hard look at your own actions and offers positive actions to replace the negative all in the hopes of making you a better God-influenced leader. It's all about understanding our spiritual gifts and talents and how to more effectively use them."
I enjoyed this book. It was more about leadership roles in the work environment than I expected, but still meaningful to me.
favorite quotes: "So how do you effectively replace control with trust and faith? First acknowledge your dependence on God. Recognize that you are not intended to handle life on your own, and you cannot do it on your own. Remember that you are just a steward. You are responsible only to be faithful. God is responsible for outcomes."
" I believe that God allows us to be confronted repeatedly with fear in order to remind us of the power of truth. Every hurdle of fear is an opportunity for our faith to grow"
If you've read Maxwell, Covey, or Buckingham, then there's really nothing new for you in this book. Clout has lots of good ideas, but it feels more like a summary of other books on effective leadership and leveraging influence than its own unique contribution. I'm not saying it's not helpful, because it can be, and it may be exactly what someone needs to read, but I personally found it a bit lacking. I would recommend it if you're looking for an introduction to leadership-as-influence, but not if you're already familiar with the subject.

I'm not sure I really liked this book as to be honest.. I've read better "god" books. Plus I just find that this book is very similar to books already out there...
I think I would change it up by making it a little more modern. (If I could re-write it).
I’d recommend Clout for anyone that is struggling with any of the clout killers mentioned above, for anyone that is ready to step into the plan and life that God has created you for and for those that have struggled to find their purpose, path, calling and influence. It’s time to discover the influence that God has given you and to live the life He has planned just for you. It’s time to find your clout. My rating for this book is 4.8 stars. I downloaded because it was on sale for $2.99 on kindle. I read 80% of the book in one sitting... Jenni Catron put into eloquent words what I may have already known and felt... And helped me re-examine my heart and intentions further. It's difficult to deal with my weaknesses that robs me of living out who God made me to be... But it's an amazing process to discover my clout! Definitely recommend!
This book is coming out in Jan 2014, but I got the privilege of reading a free download of chapter 1 that was made available at Catalyst and I absolutely can't wait for the book to be in print. Fantastic preview for an essential leadership resource.
This book is so clear in it's subject matter and cuts right to the issues that hold people back from becoming the leaders they are meant to be, as well as encouraging leaders to build upon their experiences and talents. Highly recommend.
I picked this book up just because of interest. I was pleasantly surprised by the indept content and wisdom displayed by the author. This book challenged me and humbled me at the same time. Thank you,Jenni Catron for your labor of love. If you are looking for your "Clout" check this out!
