Mr. Booth and Ms. Shames both hail from the entertainment industry and I was, initially, somewhat reluctant to take their advice - given I am in an industry perceived to be much more conservative: banking and finance. I could not have been more wrong. The methodology they have developed may be founded in theater, but the results are improved business presentations as well as much more productive one-on-one conversations; especially when the stakes are high. Having both read the book and been personally coached by David and Deborah, I have first-hand experience with their process. It works.
This book is much more than I expected. It totally exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only is it about crafting really great presentations but it will help you think about every conversation you ever have. Know your INTENT before you speak, then encapsulate everything you say around that one SINGLE intent. It also has a great section on knowing your role and being sure that it is clear to your audience leading to less confusion and more persuasive presentations. This book could have been called "Crafting Conversations that Persuade". I really enjoyed this book.
A great book that gives a lot of techniques to overcome stage freight and present a powerful presentation. The most important parts of the book are chapter two and chapter eleven which give a lot of details about the roles that we need to identify while presenting a topic and the basic things to take care of while preparing for a presentation respectively. The rest of the book deals with the public speaking phobia people has and how to overcome this. Overall a great book which is highly recommended.
I like this book. It's concise, easy to read and full of useful tips for business presentation; from your body language to the tone of your voice and to the use of PowerPoint slides.
But most importantly, there I s a great advice consistently repeated in the book: you are the star, PowerPoint is your backup.
Great tips and techniques using the dramatic arts as a foundation to deliver better presentations. Good tips on opening, closing, Powerpoint and being memorable.
