Carrie Stevens (1882-1970) of Upper Dam, Maine, created some of the most beautiful and enduring streamer patterns ever, including the legendary Gray Ghost, which she designed to catch the giant brook trout and landlocked salmon of the Rangeley Lakes. This long-awaited book is both a history of the woman and the region, as well as a guide to the Stevens method. It includes color plates of original patterns, some only recently discovered, along with a biography illustrated with archival photos. The tying section lists dressings for more than 100 streamers, 65 of which have never been published.
This is a beatiful book which captures a time in in the fishing history of Maine. Carrie Stevens designed and tied some of the most beautiful trout flies ever made, including the famous Gray Ghost. She also enjoyed the Rapid River, and the gracious life that took place among its beautiful lodges.
