Kathryn Dawn O’Brien has written a delightful cozy romantic mystery with “Murder has a Memory: A Roberta Law Mystery.” Like the author herself, Roberta Law is a hypnotherapist. She prides herself in being grounded in reality, but when a mom brings in her 10-year-old daughter for help with nightmares, Robert’s world is shaken when she cannot ignore that this child may be reliving a past life where she was murdered. In order to help the girl, Roberta must solve this old crime. She finds help from many characters, from the handsome mystical researcher, her eccentric brother, her best friend from their acting days, and another handsome devil who is also a rocker. The dialogue sparkles as the characters investigate their way around Los Angeles. Those familiar with Los Angeles (like me!) will recognize the restaurants and other places where the characters go. A fun and lively read.
This is not your run of the mill murder mystery. Filled with eccentric characters on the frontiers of psychic exploration this mystery feels at times like Tom Robbins, with some Dirk Gently mixed in. From determining what crime has been committed to who committed it to how resolution is even possible with this cast of characters, Kathryn weaves an intriguing story with lots of twists, and a heroine worth rooting for. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read.
A ten year old black child suffers from insomnia has a recurring dream of her murder. Eventually her mother takes her to a psychiatrist to get to the root of the situation.

I really enjoyed this mystery. The characters were quirky and the story kept me guessing what would happen next. Ms. O'Brien did a great job with all of her descriptions and easy-to-follow story-line.
