Fiery Myriah Whitney is wild of nature, contrary, and independent. But when her father catches her kissing the handsome Sir Roland (how else is she to determine if he is the one who will make her feel thunder and lightning, hear bells and music?), he declares that her days of headstrong independence are over. She will, he commands, announce her engagement to Sir Roland—immediately.
But in an age where marriages are about alliances rather than affection, practicality not passion, Myriah wants more—she wants to fall in love. And she does not love Sir Roland. So she runs away to her grandfather with her faithful manservant, Tabson, at her side.
A wrong turn in the fog, however, leads to the discovery of an injured young man, and before she knows it Myriah is caught up in world of intrigue and secrets. And when she meets the young man’s older brother, the mysterious Lord Kit Wimborne, the sparks fly. Their first encounter—in his bed, both of them naked, no less!—is an explosion of wills, and it is what finally set Myriah on fire.
She has, it seems, finally found her thunder and lightning…
**note: this is an updated version of an earlier novel written as Claudette Williams. The updated versions of Claudy's Claudette Williams titles are more sexually explicit than the original versions.
What was once an innocent, if rollicking, regency romance has exploded with passion as Claudy Conn revisits Myriah Fire to turn up the heat.
No mewing coquette she, Myriah Whitney refuses to settle nicely into marriage as prescribed by the haut ton of British society. Born into wealth and privilege with both beauty and brains, Myriah is willfully holding out for a love match. Unfortunately, Myriah gets caught in what appears to be an amorous kiss with the eligible Sir Roland and rather than create a scene or acquiesce to a loveless marriage, Myriah chooses to slip away before an engagement can be announced.
The road Myriah takes from London turns out to be one of high adventure, when she comes across a young nobleman, bleeding to death with a bullet in his side. Myriah manages to get the youth safely to his manor and in the absence of servants tends his wounds. As innocent as she may be, Myriah quickly finds herself in yet another compromising position, when she wakes in the silken embrace of Lord Kit Winborne, the youth's older brother. Being mistaken for a bit-of-muslin might have proven devastating for a lesser soul, but this miss is anything but daunted. She rises from the encounter with dignity intact and proceeds to win the good Lord's heart.
Myriah may feel an instant attraction for Kit, but she already has suspicions that all is not well on the Winborne estate. Most of the servants are gone, the grounds have become overgrown, and then there is the mystery of how young William Winborne came by his bullet wound. The Winbornes seem to have fallen on hard times. Something dark and sinister hangs over their dealings and Myriah finds herself caught in the thick of it, unable to reveal her true identity, yet unwilling to return home and face her father's ire.
In order for true love to blossom and take root there is a price to be paid in honesty and trust, something neither Kit or Myriah can afford to give each other blindly. The passion and desire they feel only serves to confuse matters further as neither Myriah nor Kit can risk honesty, when more than their personal happiness stands to be lost. Matters become complicated further when Sir Roland discovers Myriah's whereabouts.
The addition of unbridled sexual passion to Myriah Fire's strong story brings dimensions of maturity and depth to the struggles faced by Myriah and Kit, without diminishing any of the innocence, joy or charm found in the original story. This revised version of Myriah Fire allows Claudy's regency followers to appreciate what her paranormal romance fans have discovered –mind bending eroticism.
A truly captivating tale with a blast of added sizzle, Myriah Fire will kindle the flames of your heart and burn up the night.
The Review: Another brilliant romance by Claudy. Everything she write blows me away... Just had to add that. And the cover isn't it just pretty?
Myriah is the female main character of this story. She, like other females in the time, puts up with the views of females in this time. Her fiery character was enough to pull me in and her loyal sidekick Tabson made quite a pair. We have Kit. The male character of the story with his dark, or not so dark secret. Together the characters create a drama worth reading. Kit doesn’t quite trust her for most of the book and Myriah just tries to do what’s right. One of the things about reading historical books is the details used for description and placing things. Details like that are good for history nuts and freaks, like I. (Not a complete history buff.) The story is a charming romance that makes you want everything to work out. The surprising ending will not be anything you see coming. Hints although are everywhere, both misleading and guiding. It was a excellent way to add a twist to the story. What I’m saying basically is to go get a copy and check it out. If you’ve read Claudy Conn’s other books then you’ll love this one, and if you haven’t... Go check it out and be pulled into her world of writing. (Brainwashing Complete.) A bit hard for me to read and understand because of the brogue but I liked this story a lot! Kit and Myriah are both strong characters and I loved the easy banter between Billy and Myriah. There were a lot of editing mistakes, even misspelling Myriah's name!
Myriah Fire is just adorable! Adorable, I tell you. Myriah is sassy and spunky and bold, full of life and all manner of other cheeky, charming things. There are some brilliant secondary characters - I think the groom, Tabby is my favourite, but the doting grandfather has to be a close second.
"She was the image of her mother and her grandmother before her. She was his sole interest, his joy, his only grandchild. How often he had smiled with pleasure to see her riding up his drive—his heart full with the knowledge that she adored him. How she would tease him. “Do let us go out, Grandpapa—best of my beaux. Come, Grandpapa, the London bucks are naught to you … come with me to London.”"
What did I say? Adorable. Unfortunately I have to cap my rating below a four because of a few issues I had around believability but honestly, as long as you're willing to overlook a few little snags, I'd definitely suggest giving Myriah a go. It's feel good, it's free, and, yes, ADORABLE!
Meh. That's my thought on this book. Myriah gets caught kissing a suitor. Suitor (of course) has other motives (he's broke and needs cash). Her father catches her and expects her to marry. So, what does Myriah do? She runs away! She then makes a wrong turn and finds a young man who had been shot. (Go her, she saves him). She finds out he is William (Billy) and his brother is Lord Christoper (Kit) Winborne. She fibs and gives them a different last name. Things are off....are they smuggling? Are they poor? What was (really) going on wasn't a surprise. I had a hard time getting over Kit and Myriah's first meeting. (She was sleeping in his room and he came home. He thought he could do whatever he wanted since he thought she was a whore and had been paid for. Whatever you fucking asshole!). The writing style threw me off as well. On one page I counted 8 (or was it 7) exclamation points.
I also read this for the published pre-1980 square for #rippedbodicebingo (first published in May 1978).
I just finished this book and I really enjoyed it. Claudy is a wonderful author, with detailed story telling that allows you to become part of the story. From beginning to end I was thoroughly entertained with this book, and hated for it to end. I would defintely recommend this to anyone who wants to be swept away to another time and place, to enjoy a great story. Claudy definitely has created a life long fan, and I can't wait to read more of her books.
Myriah Fire by Claudy Conn Myriah Whitney is a headstrong young woman heading into her third Season. She has had plenty of offers for marriage but she wants love. Her father is done doting on her though and either she chooses to marry or he’ll do the choosing. And when he does there is only one thing left for Myriah to do….run off to Grandpapa’s. With Tabby, her groom, along with her they get lost in a mist and she finds herself on a whole new adventure.
Christopher “Kit” Wimborne, sixth Viscount of Wimborne Towers comes home one night to find a woman in his bed. What could he do but join her? He quickly finds out she is not what he thought. Not some doxy his brother brought home at all. Yet there is something this fiery haired beauty is hiding from him and Kit is determined to find out what it is. Even while he has his own secrets to hide.
Claudy Conn sends the readers on quite the adventure in Myriah Fire. Every turn of the page shows that things are not always as they seem to be. And this heiress is definitely much more than a spoiled girl of the ton not willing to get her hands dirty. **Sexual situations and language http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
A Regency novel that is really a re-do for this author. First released a number of years ago, this novel has been re-visited and expanded with not only a bit of added adventure but a whole lot of added erotic heat. A woman whose independent spirit gets her in trouble from time to time, but which is mainly responsible for the depression and sadness that has descended on her in this, her third London season. She simply refuses to marry a man who doesn't love her for herself, and not for her money. In running from a marriage her father is intent upon forcing upon her, Myriah encounters more adventure and quite a different sort of man than ever before. It is a novel that is full of secrets, communication that is limited and suspect on lots of levels, but which draws the reader toward a surprising conclusion. As a confirmed lover of Regency novels, this wasn't hard to start, but it was far harder to put down. I read it in one sitting and loved every minute of it. Just a fantastic read!!
Loved this book, but the ending on this one seemed a bit rushed to me. Claudy Conn is one of my favorite authors and does not disappoint in this book as well. There are plenty of moments that keep you flipping the pages to see what happens next. Myriah Whitney is a head strong woman who does not want to settle for a loveless arranged marriage, but the times call for it; until she runs away from her groom!
What Myriah finds after an accidental turn in the fog leaves us all cheering for more. More of Lord Kit Wimborne! Holy hotness wrapped up in untrusting package! Will he be able to see through Myriah's lies to the woman inside? Will she be able to see past what looks like scandal and betrayal attached to Lord Wimborne?
The book is a great read that leaves us wanting more from this fiery couple! I wish it would have been a bit longer instead of all the ads for other books tagged on at the end.
I am not sure why I am writing an official review on this book. I finished reading it about a week ago and without notes and highlights I forgot what I did or did not like about the book. It was not memorable and while I did like the story it left no memories good or bad with me. So while I think that deserves less than 3 stars I am going to go ahead a rate up because I finished it. Because in 1978 when it was first published the book probably made sense and it is not fair to rate this book with lower stars when I just got done reading another great book and was still on a high from finishing that one.
I really love Claudy's historical books. They are by far my favorite in the genre.
This light hearten tale of love and romance was a very pleasurable read for me.
Claudy's characters are always so fun and unforgettable. Myriah and Kit are a great couple to read about. Oh and Billy, he just cracked me up hahaha... I loved the banter between Myriah and Billy.
The passion, mystery and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat giving me thrills. The guessing and not knowing was exciting. The ending was superb!!
I enjoyed this story. The details and characters were good. it took a while to get used to the dialect, but I still found it entertaining. I liked Myriah and her independent streak, considering the the time period this was set in. She stood up for what she believed in. I admired her wish for a love match and how she held on to that. Kit was also likable, but it took longer for me to get there with him. He did turn out to be her perfect match and very tender with her. I also enjoyed the "brother/sister" relationship between Billy and Myriah. Overall this book was just OK for me.
The ending was too abrupt, her reasons for lying to him too flimsy to hold up all the way to the end, and his big secret too easy to figure out. Taking all that into account, it's not a bad book. I liked Myriah and I liked Kit for the most part. I loved Billy and Myriah's friendship with him. This book really could have used an epilogue, and then it wouldn't have felt like such a let down at the end. As I said, it's not a bad story, just not as good as it could have been.
I loved the humor and intrigue in this story. Myriah is a firecracker, and I loved her impulsive quirks. Kit is rude, and distrustful of her, until she worms her way into his heart. I would definitely recommend this story to others.
Was ok. Did read a lot of better books from C.C. This one had a good enough story but it lacked. Myriah back ground was well enough developed, just can't put my finer on it but it was missing something. It won't stop me from reading other books from her. though.
A really fun historical romance. The chemistry between the characters is the type that keeps your interest and requires you to keep on reading for just a bit longer and then you discover it is two hours later and you still want to keep reading. Loved the book!
I enjoyed another saucy read from Claudy Conn. She writes like no other and has such witty humor. This was a fun filled intriguing read about a saucy independent "Lady" who refuses to marry a Lord because he kissed her twice. So she runs away only to find adventure, friendship, and true love.
An absolutely delightful historical romance. Ms Conn has done it again! She is a great writer and her stories are well written. The adventure has you turning the page to see what happens next.
I found this book for free on Amazon via Freebooksy; this is my honest review. -Myriah is the personification of naïve, brat, and a coward. Apparently, running away was a thing in Regency times; if you can't marry who you want - run! She laughs a lot for nothing and if she were near me, I would've distanced myself, rolling my eyes all the way. -Since when young women are into French kisses? It wasn't her first either. It's just not done. -There were many warning bells to let Myriah know all was not well but the author never got back to them and it was a bit frustrating. Also, all through the book and her reason for skipping on Sir R., Myriah wants to marry for love. Kit never told her but got her hand anyways. Why not give her that bit of happiness? -The end needs an epilogue and Sir Roland's story comes 7 years after this one. Wow. All we have is Kit's words when he talks to both parent and grandparent. Why do they believe him? Probably only because Myriah wants to marry him no matter what which is too bad because she had a clear view of what she wanted in life but never got it. -Last but not least, there were a lot of nicknames and it was a bit confusing. -For a published book and from a USA Bestselling Author, the editing doesn't look like it was done by a professional - put your $$$ where your words are! One star off. 1A. Myriah leaves her father's home "In her haste Myriah had neglected to put on a riding hat", but then, by magic "she found the matching top hat in her portmanteau". 1B. Kit ends the meeting "He smiled to himself as he brought their meeting to a close.". But he's not quite done yet “So then, mates, let’s get on with it. We’ll have to plan it to the minute". 2. Weird phrasing "before barefoot she padded after him". "How came she to run from him?". "if I don’t mistake". “Dash it, love, but you quite take the breath away,”. 3. If you're going to use another language, make sure you know how to use it. “Et tu Bruté?”. No accents in Latin, but needs a comma. "were styled a la Brutus around". Needs accent in French. BTW the word "brute" appears 6 times in this short story. A bit too much. Use your thesaurus. 4. Wrong name. "Mynah skipped lightly" Myriah. 5. Missing letter, word or space. "he sun". "one of hose horrid". "not in anyway interfere".
Myriah is a heiress willful and applied but knows she wants more to be married for her dowry! Kit is your typical impoverished Lord but is he? Several things don't really add up he's a smuggler with a merry band for French brandy? Myriah is found kissing a young Lord in the gardens of her home no spark no vibe so she's sure she doesn't want to marry him but Sir Roland is rolled up broke and desperate to escape his creditors! Kit is the "hero"? I use that term loosely!! After personal relations it is clear whether a woman is a virgin or NOT!!! The fact Kit questions it and wonders if Myriah is a courtesan? He certainly treated her like one? No apologies, no offer and no remorse!! I have read enough historical romances to know even the most depraved man not necessarily a Lord would not behave like this!! The fact they used "dick" and cock interchangeable was too much as it is too modern!! In all runaway stories they rarely if ever take someone? A pet but not a person!!! I will give this author another change but this was no HEA love didn't seem true to me for the hero!!
Excellent! Don't you just love this title? I did and it is what drew me to read this book. In the story there are 3 really good main characters in the heroine, Myriah and two brothers, Kit and William. Then there s Myriah's groom, Tabby and a more faithful and obedient servant one would have to go far to find. And the prolematic, Sir Roland, a penniless man who knows where to look to solve his financial woes and who also thinks he is engaged to Myriah. And making very brief appearances, Myriah's father and grandfather. So as you can see, there are plenty of characters who all interact and make this a very readable, interesting and entertaining story which I just simply loved. There is a great romance, a wonderful friendship, a smuggling ring and a very surprising ending. This story is so full of twists and turns that it will keep you engrossed and turning pages. Really held my attention throughout and so I am recommending it as a really great book to read. I read the ebook version and my voluntary review above is unbiased.
Myriah and Roland are caught kissing in the garden. Her father is going to announce their betrothal and Myriah knows she can't marry Roland because she doesn't love him and he only wants her money. She convinces her loyal groom to ride away to her grandfather's house before her father can make the announcement. They get lost on the way and come across an injured man on the ground. He tells them where he lives and they bring him home to nurse him back to health. Myriah falls asleep and wakes up with a strange man in bed with her. She doesn't tell him her real name because she is afraid they will return her to her father and to Roland.
Kit knows she is hiding something and even though they circle around each other, they can't deny their attraction. Things get complicated when Roland comes looking for her and she discovers what Kit does for a living.
Entertaining story with hills and valleys with pacing, and some editing issues. Interesting main and secondary characters with great banter.
Secrets kept by both MC's throughout the story, until the very end. You understand why both kept them, so it didn't bother me. I was very shocked by the H's secret. Loved the H's brother and his antics with the h.
Violence, suspenseful moments, little on romance, twists, ending was abrupt and wanted more, some crude words, a nasty villain that I didn't care for and have no desire reading his story - which is next.
Lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 4+ out of 5. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA and steam. (ljb)
Just finished Myriah, and I truly enjoyed it, despite there being a few things that I thought were simply unlikely to happen, such as Mariah sitting completely naked, under a robe, in Billy's room, in front of the fire. That just wouldnt have happened, would it? And the swimming scenes? Is probably unlikely she would have known how to swim, and there's a good chance swimming in cold water would have made someone feel pretty unwell the next day, or maybe I'm wrong on that... :) I don't know, but this is a Regency, happily ever after so we do have to allow a little leeway! I did enjoy the book, I kept the last 20 pages for an evenings reading and I didn't put it down until it was done.
From beginning to the end you feel for Myriah. She lives in a time where women have no rights of there own. Dictated by their fathers and then their husbands you hope everything turns out well. Right up to the end you are not sure how it will end which keeps you turning the pages. Excellent read.
