"It Doesn't Get Dark Until Midnight" is a story of survival in the Alaskan wilderness. It is full of action and adventure, a love story as well as a story of inner strength. This book will captivate you and keep you reading until the last page. The main character, Aspen, learns what love and the drive for survival can accomplish. Never a dull moment, this book will definitely leave you wanting more. Hold on to your seat, and your heart. If you love the story of a true champion and the outdoors this is the book for you. A must read by almost any age or gender. Great work by April O'Brien. Look for her other books "Enter" (at your own risk) as well as "April was here" Better and more captivating than any novel. You will love this book.
I enjoyed the basis of the story, but found it elementary in style - like reading a travelogue written by an imaginative teenager. Character descriptions were shallow instead of being brought to life by their dialogue, behaviors and interactions with nature and each other. Very little actual dialogue in the story, instead just summaries of what they said or did. I almost expected to see the line, "and a good time was had by all." While the later animal attack scenes were horrific , they were not believable nor realistic. I'm sorry, Ms. O'Brien - I think you have a great imagination for stories, but would benefit from creative writing classes and more in depth research. I hope to see more of your work with greater detail, realism and life.
Vacation gone wild. Very descriptive narrative of what was to be just an outdoor adventure in the wilds of Alaska....until. The human spirit is amazing in the face of peril.
I was on pins and needles, even from the beginning,as I just KNEW something horrible was going to happen. This certainly reads like kit could be a true story with just the names changed. Read this and read APRIL WAS HERE, too. You won't be disappoint. April if you are reading this, there were so many more things I wanted to say to you about April Was. Here. Please keep writing, and I want to get The Rest Of Your Story.
It Doesn’t Get Dark Until Midnight, by April O’Brien, takes the reader on a fast-paced, harrowing adventure through the treacherous Alaskan wilderness. Unexpected surprises – and even more unexpected discoveries – abound throughout the pages of this dynamic suspense thriller. Fans of high stakes action tales are sure to find some enjoyment as they peruse the pages of O’Brien’s nail-biting offering.
Unfortunately, readers are also sure to be distracted by the considerable editing issues contained throughout It Doesn’t Get Dark Until Midnight. It’s a shame when what would be an otherwise promising story is hijacked by grammatical, typographical, and plot and character development problems riddling almost every page. While a few errors here and there wouldn’t be so much of a distraction, it’s difficult to ignore widespread, extensive editorial problems that ultimately take the focus off the story itself. With more attention to these types of issues, both It Doesn’t Get Dark Until Midnight and O’Brien’s other writings are sure to reach their full potential.
The story line itself was very good. However, I did start to roll my eyes a little when the main character and one of her rescuers got attacked by a bear (after everything else that she had already been through). I thought that the writing was very basic. It definitely needed some editing, etc.
After living in Juneau as a child, camping and hiking with my family, I easily pictured myself living in the unexpected adventure I was taken on. The characters. were engaging and the drama of the story was a realistic page turning thriller. A very satisfying read. One I will look forward to reading again.
I grabbed this book because I liked the cover. Man, am I glad I did. I was shocked at how good this story was. I loved the characters and the story line. I laughed, cried, learned and thoroughly enjoyed this read.
Started out slow...almost gave up on it, but I have to say I couldn't put it down. The Wolves and Bear attacks were so real. I am glad I stayed with it. Fantastic read.
