This rather short novella was edited out of the novel 131 Days. As a stand-alone, I thought it to be fairly rousing to read, but not fulfilling when completed. The story deals with a soldier, recuperating from wounds received in a battle, being offered an opportunity not to be returned to the front in return for fighting one match in the gladiator arena. The contest he has with a rather loathsome opponent is well-written and suspenseful, but ends in a rather abrupt fashion. I am looking forward to reading the novel.

Great short book and a good prequel to 131 Days, fills in a gap in 131 Days and ties in some of the characters.
