A forensic anthropologist and a Navy SEAL find love and danger in this sexy novella, from Laura Griffin’s bestselling Tracers series!
Forensic anthropologist Kelsey Quinn goes to a remote Texas border region to dig up ancient bones, but ends up unearthing a deadly secret. When Kelsey’s discovery jeopardizes not just her dig, but her life, she turns to US Navy SEAL Gage Brewer, who may be the only person brave enough—and lethal enough—to help.

She is a two-time RITA Award winner, as well as the recipient of the Daphne du Maurier Award. Laura got her start in journalism before venturing into the world of suspense fiction. Her books have been translated into fourteen languages. Laura lives in Austin, Texas, where she is working on her next novel. Series: * Texas Murder Files * Tracers * Wolfe Security * Alpha Crew * Moreno and Hart Mysteries * Glass Sisters * The Borderline
Forensic anthropologist Kelsey Quinn is on a dig near a Texas border town and discovers some remains that are not so old. Her worried father, rightly concerned for her safety, dispatches Navy SEAL Lieutenant Gabe Brewer to watch her back. Though their relationship has a prickly start, it soon becomes obvious that Gabe's skills are definitely needed.
The set up for this story was excellent, with a few storylines in play that held promise for a suspenseful experience. Unfortunately, there just weren't enough pages to sufficiently develop any of them, let alone a relationship between Kelsey and Gabe. It left me seriously wanting more and frustrated that a few threads remained adrift. I give it high marks for an interesting start but deductions for not following through. It's my understanding that we will see a more developed story for these two later in the series so I'll look forward to getting there.
Unstoppable is a novella that brings us the beginning of Gage Brewer and Kelsey Quinn. You will find Kelsey in several of the books as a side character and her main book with Gage is book 6.
I had read this out of order and read book 6 before reading Unstoppable. I have to say that I liked Kelsey much better in book 6. I struggled with her in this novella. She was in a dangerous situation and she disregarded her safety when Gage was right there and meant to protect her. I don't really enjoy when a heroine makes stupid decisions.
That is the only thing I didn't like about this novella. I like Gage even more after reading this and once again, I really enjoyed the investigation these two were involved in. This series is a pretty fascinating read even if I may not like every character involved. I highly recommend it.
I’m at the tail end of a major Laura Griffin reread, saw this novella was available from my library, and wondered how I missed it before.
Well: I wasn’t missing much. This is basically competent but nothing else about it works. The plot lines are abrupt, and the characterization is abrupt (when it’s present, which isn’t often), and I found myself rolling my eyes at cliched writing.
Series note This novella introduces the characters of Forensic anthropologist, Kelsey Quinn, and Navy SEAL, Gabe Brewer, and provides the necessary background for their full-length book - Scorched.
Kelsey and Gabe are appealing characters and their dynamics are entertaining. It is fun watching them try to deny their attraction and finally succumb.
The suspense plot is intriguing and well written for such a short story. That said, Kelsey does have one annoying TSTL moment that should definitely have been left out as it serves no purpose for either plot or character development.
Overall, an exciting read with just the right mix of romance and suspense. I look forward to finding out how Kelsey and Gabe resolve the issues that will obviously test their relationship.
Excellent novella in the popular Tracers series. Laura Griffin is an expert at giving us over-the-top gritty romantic suspenses. "Unstoppable" was no disappointment but just a teaser to the full story of Kelsey Quinn and Gage Brewer. I'm anxious to read the rest of their story in SCORCHED to be released in the fall of 2012.
Navy Seal Gage Brewer was asked for a favor by his commanding officer, Joseph Quinn. Quinn needed someone to watch over his niece, Forensic Anthropologist Kelsey Quinn, who was in Texas near the Mexican border working on a dig. Kelsey is not happy when Gage shows up, so she puts him to work on the dig where he is soon getting under her skin. But when the dig uncovers a body in a new grave, Kelsey is glad to have Gage by her side. There is danger in this remote area of Texas and she might need a bodyguard.
Something is going on in the desert. Is it drug runners? Illegal aliens crossing the border? The suspense portion of this story was interesting. The romance seemed rushed and I wasn't convinced at the end of the story that they would stay together. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
Unstoppable (Tracers, #2.5) Not as good as Untraceable (Tracers, #1). In fact it was some what disappointing. The scenes were extremely disjointed and the romance was all of a sudden and I could not see any reason for it after just knowing each other a few days.
This is a short introduction to Kelsey and Gage, who will be getting a full book coming up later this year. Kelsey is working near the border in a dangerous area and her uncle sends Gage, who’s on leave, to watch out for her. She doesn’t think a babysitter is necessary, but when human bones are found indicating recent kills, things take a very bad turn. The plot was very short, but very fast paced. The Delphi Center, local law enforcement and the FBI are all brought into this investigation and Kelsey’s routine dig site ends up also being the location of a large tunnel going under the US/Mexico border and more than just people are crossing into the US.
While the suspense storyline was interesting, the biggest thing this story does is set up Kelsey and Gage. Gage had tragedy happen on a past mission and he’s still dealing with the after effects of that. Emotionally, he’s closed off, and meeting Kelsey starts to open him up to living again. Kelsey is drawn to Gage right away, but I love how focused on her job she is. She’s a smarty pants and young in her field, but she knows what she’s doing and she wants to do what’s right, always. If that means abandoning her original dig plans to help solve a murder investigation, then she goes all out.
I question a little bit their declaration of love after knowing each other such a short time, but more importantly, this story sets their romance in motion, we get an idea about the rough path ahead for this couple in TWISTED which will then lead into their book SCORCHED. I can’t wait to get more from them. Gage is so very alpha, but is really struggling with that past mission that went so wrong. I can’t wait to see how these two driven people handle not only a long distance relationship, but for Kelsey, her biggest concern is Gage and his dangerous job. This was a great teaser and it’ll be interesting to see these two grow as a couple and try to make their lives work together. I don’t believe this is a short story that will be necessary to read before their book comes out, but I’d recommend it to get their story from their very first meeting. Based on this novella and their behind the scenes events in TWISTED, this will be a couple that you’ll want to read everything you can about.
For all my Tracer Fans out there, Laura Griffin has released UNSTOPPABLE as a stand alone novella for all you E-Book Lovers!! I own the paperback version of Deadly Promises, which features UNSTOPPABLE as part of the Anthology.
Whichever copy you choose, just choose ONE!! This sexy novella introduces us to Kelsey Quinn and Gage Brewer, who are getting their full-length book with SCORCHED, coming this fall.
This is a very quick read, so I won't be giving anything away, but just know that if you found yourself caught where Kelsey finds herself caught, you would definitely want Gage as your HERO *swoon* Love me some Navy SEAL Boys!!
I am warning you that you will be left with a big "?" and a loud "NOOOOO" ...I know people, I know, How do you think the rest of us feel. We have been waiting FOREVER to see what FINALLY happens between these two...their chemistry practically jumps off the pages. Just keep telling yourself...they are coming...we will FINALLY get more Kelsey and Gage...and I CAN'T WAIT to find out where their relationship has ended up.
Although I liked the characters, Gage and Kelsey, I'm not into the insta-lust/love and this was one of those really quick love plots. The suspense plot was good but needed more than a novella to really deliver on the plot. All in all a quick, pleasant read but nothing to write home (or Goodreads) about.
Although I read out of order, the romance of Gage and Kelsey is revisited in Tracer's #6, Scorched . I really enjoyed their story in the full novel and gave it 5 stars.
I'm a huge fan of the Tracer series and Ms. Griffin and read just about everything that Ms. Griffin writes.
This was an alright novella. It was my first from Laura Griffin after lots of reccomendations. I do see the potential and I think Griffin has the means to write interesting stories, but since this was a novella there wasn't too much that could be hashed out.
I think Kelsey felt kind of 2 dimensional in this book. For someone with a phd, she was really good at not being rational and putting herself in danger. I enjoyed Gage's character a bit more.
The end just felt super rushed and not believable and gave me the ick. I will read book 6 though as I am curious about this couple and how much better they will fare with a longer storyline.
2/5; 2 stars; C I read this in the Deadly Promises Anthology.
I originally got this anthology out of the library because I wanted to keep up with the Tracer's series. I would have enjoyed this story except for the fact that near the end, the heroine did the stupidest thing imaginable and I almost stopped reading it. I mean seriously, what was the author thinking? This is the second Tracer's story I've read in a row where the heroine inexplicably loses her mind. Not good. Lets hope that the book coming in the fall is better.
As usual Griffin writes awesome suspense with subtle romance and the short length of this novella didn't bother me at all. It was well-rounded and well-written. I loved Kelsey and Gage and their romance. The suspense plot was perfect for the length of the story and though it only partially wrapped up, I am sure it will be completely wrapped up in Mia's story (UNFORGIVABLE) who had a small but crucial part in this one.
UNSTOPPABLE reminded me of the TV show Bones, with Kelsey being a forensic anthropologist and big hunky Gage sent to protect her and I can't wait to read the next installment in the Tracers series.
I really liked this novella. Lots going on, Kelsey's uncle sends Lt. Gage Brewer to watch over her when he learns about a shooting near a dig she is working on. Shortly after Gage arrives Kelsey finds some bones from a possible murder and with little help from the local sheriff Kelsey starts looking into what happened. Soon Kelsey and Gage are being shot at and the FBI is one scene.
I hope I get to see more of Kelsey and Gage in later books.
This is a very entertaining addition to the Tracer series. I'm rarely disappointed by anything Laura Griffin writes, so I'm not surprised I liked this, except that I usually don't enjoy shorter works as much as full length novels. However Griffin did an excellent job with character and story development given the amount of room she had to work with.
short sweet and hard to beat. That was a great action filled, suspenseful and sexy novella in a great series. All should read Laura Griffin's series b'c the layers of greatness just keep comin'.
Kelsey is a member of Delphi and her story picks up off site at a dig, but quickly brings in Mia and the FBI through recent burials near her anthropology dig site and school. Along with Mia and work from Delphi we have a new character, a navy SEAL, that her uncle sent to protect her. Sparks fly between them as her safety does get endangered. Together they help solve a case involving bombs, murdered FBI, CI, and international tunnels for smuggling between Mexico and USA. Super fast paced and short read but still well developed and enjoyable.
Great short addition to the Tracer's series. Gives us the beginnings of Forensic anthropologist Kelsey Quinn and US Navy SEAL Gage Brewer.
When Kelsey goes to a remote Texas border region to dig up ancient bones she finds a fresh murder and unearthing a deadly secret. Kelsey’s discovery jeopardizes not just her dig, but her life. Her Uncle Joe a Navy seal sends one of his team to help.
Love to read about Navy Seals and military in general. Gage Brewer is the kind of man who will haunt many readers’ dreams in a good way. It was false nice to read about Mia and the Delphi Center . Gives you a warm feeling of belonging. Reviewed by Heide Katros, Winter Haven News, Florida
This story is decently written but unfortunately, Kelsey is really dumb. Shes supposed to be smart and accomplished but despite finding dead bodies, she runs straight into danger and puts everyone at risk. Gage is used to dating bimbos so sure, I guess this romance is reasonable. Thank goodness it’s a novella. I’m not sure I’ll be able to handle her full length novel.
I am now even more confused about the relationship depicted in Scorched, because in that one it seems to be a surprise the the heroine loves the hero and in this, they both say it at the end. Either way, bad couple.
I don’t usually like novellas very much but I felt the characters were more well-developed than I expected. It could be partly because I’ve read other books in the series so I was somewhat familiar with the Delphi Center. I enjoyed it.
I hate books that end in cliffhangers😡. I really hate books that end in cliffhangers and that make me cry😢. Aside from all that it was a really good story. 😉 Not much to it (it was a novella of course) but what there was packed a punch. A good afternoon read😊.
A nice quick read. It had everything you need in a well thought out story. There was action, spice, and mystery like all the books I have read thus far in this series.
Even though Goodreads doesn't list an audiobook version, I read this as an audiobook on Hoopla. I like the Tracers series, because the mysteries are good and I like the science center they talk about in Texas (fictional, I think).
