I Know an Old Lady

Rate this book

This interactive retelling of the Three Little Pigs story allows the reader to play the part of the big bad wolf. Three interior die-cut holes invite readers to huff, puff, and blow the pigs’ houses down! This fractured fairy tale ends sweetly when, rather than blowing down the third pig’s brick home, the wolf/reader blows out the candles on a cake baked by the pigs! A satisfying and engaging read for every young Three Little Pigs fan.

I don't know why I picked this up at the thrift shop, but I've got to call my mother to thank her for not traumatizing my childhood by reading me this particular nursery rhyme. The illustrations are especially horrifying.

A little old granny smirks evilly as she stalks and consumes increasingly larger creatures until she dies, presumably of intestinal rupture. But based on her deathbed expression, I suspect she eventually rises to join the ranks of the undead.

My daughter wants to read this book every time we get in the car, I honestly can't stand it anymore.

I don't know why, but I love this book. I first heard it in kindergarten and when I came across this book before my son was born, I knew that I had to have it! He carried this book around constantly wanting it read to him, even taking it to my mother-in-law's house one day. (Only once though, because he said it was too morbid to be reading to a child, so we kept it home from then on! Didn't stop us from reading it!)

This is an updated version of this classic piece of children's literature. The text is familiar and the repetition is beneficial to learning how to read. I enjoyed the bright illustrations. They are creative and silly at the same time. This will be a definite must read for my fantasy unit.
