Rumiko Takahashi is one of the wealthiest women in Japan. The manga she creates (and its anime adaptations) are very popular in the United States and Europe where they have been released as both manga and anime in English translation. Her works are relatively famous worldwide, and many of her series were some of the forerunners of early English language manga to be released in the nineties. Takahashi is also the best selling female comics artist in history; well over 100 million copies of her various works have been sold.
Though she was said to occasionally doodle in the margins of her papers while attending Niigata Chūō High School, Takahashi's interest in manga did not come until later. During her college years, she enrolled in Gekiga Sonjuku, a manga school founded by Kazuo Koike, mangaka of Crying Freeman and Lone Wolf and Cub. Under his guidance Rumiko Takahashi began to publish her first doujinshi creations in 1975, such as Bye-Bye Road and Star of Futile Dust. Kozue Koike often urged his students to create well-thought out, interesting characters, and this influence would greatly impact Rumiko Takahashi's works throughout her career.
Career and major works:
Takahashi's professional career began in 1978. Her first published story was Those Selfish Aliens, a comedic science fiction story. During the same year, she published Time Warp Trouble, Shake Your Buddha, and the Golden Gods of Poverty in Shōnen Sunday, which would remain the home to most of her major works for the next twenty years. Later that year, Rumiko attempted her first full-length series, Urusei Yatsura. Though it had a rocky start due to publishing difficulties, Urusei Yatsura would become one of the most beloved anime and manga comedies in Japan.
In 1980, Rumiko Takahashi found her niche and began to publish with regularity. At this time she started her second major series, Maison Ikkoku, in Big Comic Spirits. Written for an older audience, Maison Ikkoku is often considered to be one of the all-time best romance manga. Takahashi managed to work on Maison Ikkoku on and off simultaneously with Urusei Yatsura. She concluded both series in 1987, with Urusei Yatsura ending at 34 volumes, and Maison Ikkoku being 15.
During the 1980s, Takahashi became a prolific writer of short story manga, which is surprising considering the massive lengths of most of her works. Her stories The Laughing Target, Maris the Chojo, and Fire Tripper all were adapted into original video animations (OVAs). In 1984, after the end of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, Takahashi took a different approach to storytelling and began the dark, macabre Mermaid Saga. This series of short segments was published sporadically until 1994, with the final story being Mermaid's Mask. Many fans contend that this work remains unfinished by Takahashi, since the final story does not end on a conclusive note.
Another short work left untouched is One-Pound Gospel, which, like Mermaid Saga, was published erratically. The last story to be drawn was published in 2001, however just recently she wrote one final chapter concluding the series

Another great volume. Tbh the constant back-and-forth of both InuYasha and Kagome and Miroku and Sango is a little annoying. I know the reason for InuYasha and Kagome is gonna get resolved soon but I hope Sango and Miroku is resolved soon too. I don’t mind romance, and it was fine at first, but this is 36 individual volumes of the same thing over and over and I’m getting it doubled. I already know they all end up together, even if I hadn’t seen the anime it’s obvious. So why must we go 36+ volumes of this will they won’t they melodrama?? It just gets old. There are other things that would cause tension than that.

Kagura is about to die in the next installment isn't she? I actually want her to have a happy ending, damn. She's just a victim of Naraku 🥲 And yeah, that little moment with her thinking she wanted to see Sesshomaru before she dies?! Like okay yeah, I ship it 😂
Also Naraku is getting pretty annoying now 😭😂 How many tricks does he have up his sleeve?!? He keeps creating new monsters and finding a way to evade Inugang AND Kikyo 🫠
And speaking of Kikyo, Inuyasha really has a lot of nerve getting jealous when Koga is there to woo Kagome 😭😂

The official beginning of the end. Things from the past are returning once again and as Naraku gets stronger, the pressure to obtain the jewel is paramount. More so now than ever

It is bananas to me that this is what entirety of the original series, 355 chapters, 167 episodes, covers and the rest, another like 200 chapters is “covered” in final act (26 eps) whelp

Volume 34
I’m calling this one, rat attack. Lol Sango tries to destroy the rat shrine while Kohaku attempts to defend it. While she’s doing that, Inuyasha and Kagome attempt to save the demon lure tree. Somehow the lure gets nullified, and they all become targets for attacks. Kikiyo smashes the shield on the rat shrine allowing Inuyasha to destroy it. Failing to protect the shrine, Kohaku leaves and Sango is forced to come to terms with the fact that he is being used by Naraku.
Kagome returns home and Inuyasha follows her, making the visit more stressful. Shippo gets possessed by a parasite demon and proceeds to make his own capture very hard on his friends, who are only trying to free him.
Naraku awakens a mountain sized demon by stealing his nulling stone. Kohaku meets Kikiyo,as she searches for the infant creation of Naraku. And Koga is reunited with the gang as they hunt Hakudeshi
Volume 35
So Hakudoshi is using Haku (shared life force) to animate demon corpses, stitched together to make larger demons. Eew. Inuyasha is jealous of Koga’s attentions to Kagome and ends up starting another fight with her. I don’t know about you, but I am getting tired of this weird square love shape these guys all have going on.
Koga is attacked by Hakudoshi’s newest creation, Moryomaru, the the jewel shards he has. Inuyasha and the others catch up and join the fight. Kagura makes up with Sesshomaro and spills the beans that Naraku’s heart is not hidden in Hakudoshi, but elsewhere. She gives him a demon shard to help track down the heart.
Lord Miroku (aka Monk) is in trouble. The troop has stopped to help a village plagued by a water demon (A giant demon carfish) where he has apparently been before. He, apparently, promised to marry a young woman names Shima up on his return. Despite the tension created by the situation the group manages to stay together to help. Sango saves Shima from joining the demon catfish in his home at the bottom of the lake and is captured instead.
The troop finds the head of the mountain demon. Upon investigating they find one man with the arm of a demon and many children…
Volume 36
Demons, demons everywhere! Inuyasha and the others are trying to defend Goryomaru and the orphan children they ran across last volume. But maybe the demons aren’t the only thing to be concerned about. Kagura enters the mix…only to be shot down.
Rin and Jokan ‘save’ Kagura, who they find floating in a river. Sesshomaru does the actual saving when they fall in the river. Kagura explains why she appeared at the temple to them. Hakudoshi finds Kagura as she makes her way back and together they go to the temple of Goryomaru. Naraku later captures Goryomaru and leaves Kagura as his guard.
Inuyasha and the crew walk into the belly of the giant stone demon, searching for Naraku’s heart. Instead they find Naraku…and are slowly digested. Inuyasha takes a risk and Kagome gladly pays the price.
Sango is attacked by an illusion wielding mosquito demon.

I think this volume had the most filler chapters so far, not that I minded. The only fault I have is that Kagome and the others continue to not trust Inuyasha's feelings. I liked seeing him meet Kagome's friends and them actually really liking him. Miroku beating up the god of the pond/lake in a state of rage because it tried to trap Sango into marrying it and him calling her "his woman".... a moment.
I honestly don't completely know what Naraku is playing or what game he is playing at. I'm hoping that Kohaku will be able to survive and officially reunited with Sango, hopefully even joining the gang. I feel sad that the mountain was killed in his attempt to find Naraku.
I'm curious to see if Kagura is going to die. I also hope that Kikyo and Sesshomaru play a bigger role in the next volume.

February 23, 2021This is a great set of volumes. This includes that Miroku's fiancée storyline (which, Sango shouldn't apologize, although this is less egregious than some of his other past antics), Shippo's possession and subsequent mischief, and a trip to the present. Basically, all my favorite intermissions with Kagome also being very brave and self-sacrificing inside the demon mountain. It's *chef's kiss* in what I love about the series.

I love finding the humor in this series. Inuyasha got to meet Kagome's friends from school. While Sango's trust of Miroku is tested when coming across a former lover of his. Also, the search for Naraku's heart continues. By the way, that infant is REALLY creepy.

I finally caught up where I last left off in the anime! So from this point on I will have no idea on what will happen leading up to the final volume! Which makes it even more exciting! Still the same old cute stuff!

Lots of interesting stuff going on with Naraku here. Still not sure why Kagome doesn’t invest in a nice pair of boots??? Especially after what happens in this issue…. One off “filler” chapter at the end was nice.

Great as always! Loving the series. Can't wait to see how it all ends. I think the romance between kagome and Inuyasha might be actually going somewhere now.

So much action making it a great installment. Relationships continue building, and the moment Kagome helps Inuyasha through his demonic moments is easily one of my favourite in the whole series.

What first drew me to this series was the romantic historical aspect. I loved how a modern day girl gets pulled back into the past. I don't know what it is about those stories that attract me so much, maybe it is the difficulty for the girl of fitting in and having to rely on the guy so much to be able to get along in the world.
I also really liked the group aspect to this series and the corresponding relationships that affect each of the characters.
I would really recommend this series to fans of Red River, it has a lot of the same concepts.

This volume was great because it feels as if the character are becoming emotionally invested with other characters. I love it!
I didn’t expect for Kagura to be into Sesshomaru, and it makes me wonder in he might be a little bit into her? Ugh Sesshomaru and his poker face annoys me sometimes… but he is still my papi chulo!
My favorite chapter is probably when Inuyasha brakes Kagome’s new old bike.
I hate that we still looking for Naraku’s heart, the fact that they get so close every time and then nothing pisses me off.
