About the author

When Stan Kirby was 6-years-old, he tied a beach towel around his neck and became Super Commander Beach Boy. He tried his best to protect sand castles from the waves, keep seagulls away from his French fries, and keep the beach clean.

When Stan's not creating the awesome adventures of Captain Awesome, he loves reading comic books, eating okra, and hang-gliding (but not at the same time).

112 pages; Another MI-Tee good adventure! This time Captain Awesome and Nacho Cheeseman meet the new girl Sally who moves in down the street and help find her missing cat, Mr. Wiskerworth. Highly recommended for Grades 2-4.

This one is probably one of the better Captain Awesome books. That is because it’s about stupid little boys realizing the new girl is actually a cool tomboy who likes superheroes. Alas, this book among many others contributing to me thinking femininity was stupid and I should act like a boy. Lame.

Reason for Reading: Next in the series. My son read aloud to me as his reader.

I continue to be pleased with this series and my son continues to find the stories funny and not childish. Being a 6th grade struggling reader it is hard to find material on his level that isn't babyish. This series rarely mentions the ages or grades of the children involved and he never has a clue he is reading something the publisher's recommend for grades K-2. The books certainly have a much wider appeal than that. Each book introduces new characters and this one is no exception. Awesome and Cheese Man find a cat and start to adopt it and bring it into the Squad until they find out the cat`s brother is missing. On the case, they cross paths with the new kid at school whose personality is rather "unique" and we have a funny adventure which ends with the possibility of a new member joining the Squad after all. Not the best book in the series, (there is always something with 3`s) but still follows through leaving us both interested in reading the next book. One of the best series around for the 2-3 reading level, no matter what the age of the reader, advanced or struggling.

A quick, entertaining read for experienced readers, a satisfying challenge for struggling readers or those who want to read chapter books and have a dependable, fun series.
Illustrated with funny, exaggerated black and white drawings; large font and big spaces between lines help make it easy to read. Pages where the boys are totally into their super-hero mode are black backgrounds with white text, and the text is printed at an angle.
Some sentences are rather long, and some phrases may be tongue-twisters for some readers:
"Captain Awesome pushed the solar-drive button on his handlebars and launched the MI-TEE Mobile and the Cheesey Rider into the vastness of space." Whew.
I wonder if youngsters will connect references to popular sayings:
"...it was only cloudy with a slight chance of defeat..."
I did not read #1 &2, so I can't comment on the need to read them all in order.

Another neat installment in the early chapter book series featuring Captain Awesome and Nacho Cheese Man. This time there's a new kid in town, a mysterious girl, a vicious drooling dog and a possible new ally, Funny Cat. Lots of fun abounds. This is a great series for struggling young boys, or for gently nudging graphic novel devotees towards chapter books (not that there's anything wrong with GNs).

This is a really cute series. In volume 3, there's a new kid on the block and in school. It's a GIRL! But, unlike the pink, pink, pink and dreadful Meredith, this one wears jeans and sneakers and is pretty normal. Could she be a friend? Or a spy? Or even...another superhero? Very kid-friendly, with lots of humor.

One night Eugene finds a cat he names Funny Cat but the cat turns out to belong to the new girl in school Sally. This one includes a story about a new girl in school & some bullying issues.

I liked most of the book, and the addition of Sally. But really, how big of an idiot is that kid that he didn't even feel/see that name tag on the cat? How did he even think it was a brother of the lost cat? Stupid much?

Lots of superhero jargon smashed up w Star Wars lingo. May be confusing at times if not totally conversant in both. Lots of illustrations will attract kids' attention.
