Rate this book
The fourth book in the Atria Books/Beyond Words Library of Hidden Knowledge, a modernized version of one of the first works to make the Law of Attraction accessible to the general timeless guidance on the power of prosperity, intuition, relationships, and other perennial topics.

The game of life is a game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later with astounding accuracy.

Florence Scovel Shinn, a prominent and provocative twentieth-century leader of the New Thought movement, was known for her sage guidance on prosperity, intuition, relationships, and fulfillment. Shinn’s distinct philosophy and practical approach included enlightening affirmations, timeless anecdotes, and action-based advice that are still relevant for the fast-paced world of today.

In addition to Shinn’s original writings, The New Game of Life features Dr. Ruth L. Miller’s contemporary translations as well as additional exercises and summaries to fully engage a new generation of thinkers.

Florence Scovel Shinn (September 24, 1871, Camden, New Jersey – October 17, 1940) was an American artist and book illustrator who became a New Thought spiritual teacher and metaphysical writer in her middle years. In New Thought circles, she is best known for her first book, The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925).

Her books "Your Word Is Your Wand" and "The Game of Life and How To Play It" were released as audiobooks in 2014 and 2015 respectively and were narrated by actress Hillary Hawkins.

Shinn is considered part of the New Thought movement, as her writings follow in the tradition of Phineas Quimby (1802–1866), Emma Curtis Hopkins (1849–1925), and both Charles Fillmore (1854–1948) and Myrtle Fillmore (1845–1931), co-founders of the Unity Church.

Motivational author Louise Hay acknowledges her as an early influence.

Won this as a GoodReads first reads giveaway. A classic book on possibility thinking though I am not familiar with the author. Format is unusual in that the revised book is followed by the complete original text from the 1920s. I'm tempted to read the original first and then compare it to the updated version. I have mixed feelings about this philosophy but I'm willing to read with an open mind. My bottom line is that positive thinking won't hurt, but I'm not sure how effective it is at manifesting reality.

this is interesting enough, I always wondered about the Law of Attraction, but never really read anything about it. Not something I would really start following, but it is very interesting.

Good for fans of The Secret as the principles are the same. This is an updated version of the original "The Game of Life and How to Play It" by Florence Scovel Shinn published in 1925. The original was based on Christian teachings and so the updated version was more multi-faith so for me a lot easier to read. There are exercises and affirmations throughout as well.
