Full of inspiring stories and valuable medical information, Chicken Soup for the Say Goodbye to Stress! will help readers manage their stress, no matter where their stress comes from.
Everyone feels stressed out at some point in their lives. Many have trouble getting their stress under control and want help. This new book will encourage stressed out readers with its stories from people like them about how they resolved or rethought the stress in their lives, learned to let go of anxiety and worry, and improved their lives by handling stress. Plus relevant medical advice from renowned clinical physiologist and Harvard Medical School faculty member Dr. Jeffrey Brown.
Have you ever had major stress in your life and just not known how to deal with it? Think that you are the only one experiencing a certain type of stress? This is the book for you then! It is written and compiled by Jeff Brown who gives you all sorts of tips on how to control your stress. I loved reading all the stories from people just like me that looked on the outside like they had their life in check and control when really underneath they were flailing. I got great ideas on how to manage time and stress to make myself feel better and less overwhelmed from home and even in the workplace. I am one of those people pleasers that does anything and everything asked of me even if it spreads me thin. I needed to take a step back and decide what was more important: people pleasing or having less stress. Thanks to this book I got GREAT tips. It is a must-read for ANYONE because we all experience some sort of stress, right?
Aside from 3 stories in this book (chapter on stress at work), this was not particularly helpful. The stories can be summarised as "things were stressful, and I decided to be more positive". Nice to read that the people were able to survive their stressful experiences, but not what I was hoping for when I bought this book. Perhaps it is hard to pull together an anthology about dealing with stress that will resonate across all readers, given sources of stress are so varied (work, health, money, family, change of circumstances...) and generally hard to find a 'fix' beyond living through it.
Dr., Jeff Brown of Harvard Medical school is both a psychiatrist and a lecturer at Harvard University. His book "Say Goodbye to Stress" I found very helpful. It has some useful tips about different coping mechanisms and techniques that would help you direct your thoughts towards a more positive path. His book has so many stories told in the first person to give you an insight into people's own lives as they have experienced it themselves, then comes his commentary where he analyzes each person's approach and provides scientific proof of why this or that might be helpful. His talk about meditation and having a religious belief was very interesting to read about and I think I'll post a separate video just to talk about this part.
All in all, it's a nice read and I already started applying some of the suggestions mentioned there and hopefully it works for me inchallah in what I expect to be a very hectic academic year ahead of me.
This book was very helpful. I like the way the book was set up; every chapter with stories followed by commentary. It helped to read what others were going through. I didn't feel so alone. There was even a recipe for chicken soup at the end!
The only thing lacking was more stories that were spiritual in nature.
I remember reading Chicken Soup for the Soul books all the time when I was younger, the short stories written by ordinary people ranging from inspiring to heartbreaking. This book reminded me that my problems are quite small compared to what some people are enduring, and that some of the things I currently do for stress are just what I should be doing.
Kind of medicine to my stress soul. Been worrying about exam and college stuffs. This book is a perfection because you do realised that you are nothing without yourself. You own yourselves. Life might knock you hard but always remember to stand up straight right after the kick and punch.
Lots of practical advice in this book. The stories, as is the trademark of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, make the solutions seem more approachable and more likely to work. The medical advice in the other chapters is a welcome addition to as solidly helpful self-help book.
