DNF after three chapters. The heroine is supposed to be a bad ass cop, but her tits are mentioned at least once per page. That's not okay. For shame, Karen Robards.
it is a shame the book contains so many mistakes which get to be tiring. They will travel by boat on lake Erie on New Year's eve. Good luck, the lake is frozen then! or a guy with two bullets in his forehead is meant to have committed suicide according to the police... how did he fire the second shot when he was already dead? the same guy was severely beaten before his "suicide" but the cops did not think anything about the marks on his body. And I could go on, no serious research has been made, and the author lacks knowledge in basic medical science. On the top of it, the book repeats itself for pages and pages. When the main characters are running away, half of every page describes them looking back to see where their followers are. Close, closer, a bit closer, more... Add the romantic relation between the heroes, though they are running through snow, slate and hail, they are so attracted by each other that they can hardly resist. Please!!! And when you get to the book's end, it borders on insanity. You learn that the father knew all along his very best friend was a mobster and a sociopath, but was hiding his true feelings because he needed time to catch him. So, during 15 years, he let the sociopath be as close as possible to his daughters -it did not matter because one day, he would have the last word. Makes sense, no? Some ( a lot ) of the things narrated in the book do not make sense. The hero did not have any possibility to get help in 2/3ds of the book, and then suddenly, it turns out that he has friends all over. He has been captured and searched a few times, but they must have left him money and credit cards, as they will use them as soon as they escape to buy stuff at McDonald's and refuel a plane for instance. Far from being the best book I have read lately.
Orada kalbimi tamamen fetih etti. Adam epey bilgi sahibiydi. " Öyleyse, soygununu mahvettiğin için hemen özür dilemeliyim." "Kazara olduğunun farkındayım." Adam açıkça itiraf ediyordu. "Bunu sana karşı kullanmıyorum." Mick ona ateşsaçan bakışlar attı. 🌸 " Elbiseler üstünde kalsın. İkimizinde ıslanmasına gerek yok: Seni taşıyacağım." Mick'in elleri hareketsiz kaldı. "Gerçekten mi?" "Evet." Yine, iyilik istemek onun tarzı değildi ama diğer yandan, dokuz metrelik buzlu suya dalmak da öyle. "Bunu neden yapsın ki?" "Beyefendi olduğum için." Sesi kuruydu. Biraz," diye itiraf etti.
...at least it kept me reading until the end. That being said, with whole book to work with why does the writer wait to develop everything in the last 15 pages? The main character is a Detroit cop whose best friend is the daughter of a "connected" man. NO ONE in the police department notices this and lets her know it's probably not a good idea for a cop to be fraternizing with the family of a known criminal? And the idea of an ex-FBI agent turning to theft - only from those who have gotten rich by doing terrible things - and no one catching on....well, sorry, it just doesn't make sense. Other FBI agents brought in at last, and I do mean LAST minute - are almost too stupid to live, making every stereotypical mistake in the book. The hero is - of course - an amazingly handsome and sexy man, and he and the cop fall in love over the course of about 2 days. Nope, sorry - plot leaks all over the place.

I remember when I read The Ultimatum, I was amazed how some scenes could drag on and on and on. The same happens in this one. Scenes that would normally take only several minutes to happen, take several lomg chapters to finish. All thanks to long descriptions and inner monologue. Didn't this book have an editor who could have removed all uneccesary and irrelevant babble? When something happened it was way too unrealistic and unbelievable. Not of of the best work by this author.
sevdim diyemem , konunun bütünlüğü kaçış üstüne kurgulanınca olayın çözümlenip neticelenmesini son sahnelerde hızlı bir geçiş gibi okuyorsunuz. 2,5 yıldız
Normally I like Karen Robards' books, but not this one. Usually they are full of great characters and fast action. Most of the times they are page turners. But this time I was very disappointed.
The story starts with Micayla finding herself a witness to a robbery. The action of the robber - Jason force her to leave with him, while the security officers make chase. - What a great start to a book - so I thought...
The time line of this story is only a few days - maximum a week. Firstly Mic & Jason escape by a boat. The very lengthy, flowery and full of similarities descriptions of the very COLD night, of the very BLACK lake and the WHITE snow, and the FREEZING temperatures, were driving me crazy. I think every paragraph had at least two similarities: this was just like ..... Few chapters later, Mic & Jason are still on the lake, still cold and it is still snowing. I got the fact that it was a very cold night very quickly, and I did not need any more detailed descriptions of the same thing - Yup it was cold etc. etc. At this point (which was nearly half way through the book) I was ready to give up, but I saw a flicker of hope - Mic & Jason got into more trouble, which took them away from the lake and the cold and white forest!
By the time Mic & Jason were in deeper water when facing death by a bullet, the action was moving a bit faster.
Overall I found the two main characters lacking. Micayla & Jason were both very weak and shallow. I found Jason's past very lame and uninteresting. Micayla's family created a more interesting picture, with a few, very small twists.
This book didn't do much for me at all. Even the hot, passionate scenes - which usually in Robards' books are just that - hot & passionate, I found lacking. To me they were vulgar and slightly forced. They did not have the warm & realistic feel to them.
And by the way, after spending a night in a dear/hunting box/shelter, with a smoky fire, your hair or your skin will not smell sweet. Your hair, your clothes and your skin will smell of the smoke! Quite few things in this story came across a bit impractical and unrealistic.
I am surprised to see so many people disliked this book. I have read Karen Robards before and I really enjoy her books. I found this one at the library and thought I would give it a try. I found it suspenseful, exciting, and romantic. Of course there are certain parts of the book that may have not been possible in real life but it's a book! The point is to escape to another world and enjoy a story. I am sure a boat ride on Lake Erie on New Year's Eve is unlikely, but I was so into the story and the fact that Mick and Jason were so desperately trying to escape, that I didn't even consider that fact! I loved the tension and sexual chemistry between Mick and Jason. I thought it was tastefully written and believable! I couldn't stop turning the pages in this book!!!
I enjoy reading Karen Robards romantic suspense books. She does them pretty well and keeps me entertained, as evidenced that I am writing this review after 11, when I should be sleeping.
This one kept me interested from page 1. It was an interesting concept of a cop and a thief, although all is not black and white with Jason, our thief. It was a sweet love story and a good suspense story. As with all of her RS books, the love developed quickly. It was believable to me and even though the sex scenes were short they were still hot. Really, the only issue I had with the book was there was really no resolution to the fact she was a cop and he was a thief. The bad guys were caught and she went back to the island to be with Jason. I figure it will be an Eve and Roarke thing but I would have liked to have known for sure.
3.5/5 stars...i really adore Karen Robards' work, esp. her thriller/mysteries (this woman can scare me!).
I booted thiis book down because, while i enjoyed the story and the plot was great, i felt too much was left unexplained pertainimg to main character development & the ending kinda stunk to me...it seemed forced to "wrap it up" or something.
overall, Ms. Robards is so talented, i really feel anything she writes is worth reading regardless of my fickle ways! ;)
Eh, it was okay. I usually like Karen Robards, but I wasn't really into this book. Three quarters of the book they are being chased and nothing else. It took place over a 3 day period and all of a sudden the main characters are in love? She's a cop and he's a criminal. You don't find out anything about him, including his name until 270 pages into this book but she's in love?! I'm all for romance and fantasy but really?
I LOVED the hero of this novel. I thought he was super. I had problems with the plot, though, and that's where the novel lost me. Specifically (and here's the spoiler), I didn't understand why the heroine didn't foresee crooked cops from the moment she first saw the pictures. At that moment she lost credibility for me as a character. She held consistent to herself as a character, but I lost faith in her.

It was okay for me. There was way too much descriptive paragraphs for my liking. The 2 main characters did have a witty banter between them that kept me amused.
Could not put this book down. Just when you thought you knew where this book was going it totally changed direction. I love all of Karen Robards writing but this was one of my absolute favorites. Mick is a badass and so fun to get to know.
Bit of a dud this one, totally unbelievable scenario and doesnt even really develop the back story about the nightmares which gave the book its title, the obligatory chase scenes were just filler and no mystery at all. Unsatisfying and wont be reading again.
I originally didn't plan on providing a review on this book; however, after pondering about it for a quite a few hours, I realized that I needed to put down my thoughts just to get it off my chest so to speak.
I enjoyed the plot of the novel as I found it entertaining. I found the author’s depiction of the wintery elements to be well written. I guess because I live in Canada I understand what cold really is, and the way she described it made me shiver as I detest the cold so much. That being said, how can Mick NOT have frost bite, especially on her feet while running through snow barefoot?? She’s only wearing pajama bottoms and a tank top, running through a blizzard at night and no frostbite? Right.
Like other reviewers mentioned, the plot was drawn out way too long. After the long drawn out chase, Robards ends the novel abruptly. When I say abruptly, I'm not joking. Towards the end, we have Mick's sister and nieces kidnapped; FBI agents arrive; she's kidnapped again; she saves everyone; FBI leave, a job well done - all of which takes place in a couple of chapters. Uncle Nico, the protagonist who creates the whole premise of the book never appears (except sitting in the back seat of a vehicle). However, in the end - BOOM - he's been arrested. Mick discovers the truth about her father at the end - BOOM, everything is fine.
I didn't mind Mick and Jason as a whole. What I did mind was that they declared their love for one another in less than two days. I mean seriously, she just broke up with her boyfriend a few days before meeting Jason; she’s a cop and he’s a thief, yet they fall madly in love with each other. At least let’s make it somewhat believable. I am so tired of this ongoing occurrence in novels.
Query: Mick returns to the island to join Jason a few days later after everything is so quickly wrapped up. Did she quit her job as a cop? Is she on vacation? Is she staying permanently with Jason? A little info would have been nice here.
In the end, I still give it 3 stars. What can I say. I found it entertaining.

My first and not last Karen Robards book is Sleepwalker. The time period of the main story is three days. Maybe less. The first part is a flashback of Mick and Jenny's mother's murder when Mick was 11 and she was killed in front of their eyes. Now 27, Mick has nightmares every few months and she sleepwalks, sometimes waking up to her own screams. Which is how Mick finds herself out of her bed on New Year's Eve while house sitting for an old family friend.
While returning to her room, she hears a sound. Now a Detroit cop, she runs to her room, grabs her Glock and interrupts a robbery in her "uncle's" safe. There is some good butt kicking and kicked butt and then the game changer when Mick comes across incriminating evidence against her "uncle." She's smart enough to realize she's in deep doo-doo and allows herself to be taken hostage and helps the thief escape. She plans on arresting him later.
I'll go ahead and let slip one nugget. Uncle Nicco is big time mob. Sorry if I spoiled it for you but you figure it out pretty quickly. Cop and robber become grudging allies while Nicco's thugs (and he has a lot) look for them.
Action packed, intelligently written, well researched. It's a great thriller story with a couple of surprises thrown in. Sexual tension is not a surprise because it was definitely there. So it's a thriller with cops and robbers. It's a romance with strong attraction and sex. Not overboard sex but enough to get the gist and vicariously enjoy.
This is not a children's book.
Overall, an enjoyable read with a strong storyline and well written characters. Loved Jason. Oh, how I loved Jason.
SLEEPWALKER by Karen Robards is an exciting contemporary romantic suspense thriller. Micayla "Mick" Lange,a Detroit cop,who witnessed the horrific murder of her mother, she is a sleepwalker, and a recent breakup. Jason Davis, a thief, who Mick catches in the act of stealing from a safe she is house sitting. Together, they must learn to trust each other, fight their attraction, survive a killer, run for their lives. While natural adversaries can they become partners in crime in order to survive their track through the dangerous Michigan wilderness and best enemies lurking around in order to end both of their lives. A fast paced, action filled story full of adventure, suspense, romance and characters that can steal your heart with some twists, turns and a chance for second chances. A great thriller with a silver lining. When a female cop and a professional thief/crook cross paths anything could happen and does. Received for an honest review from the publisher. Details can be found at Galley Books,a division of Simon and Schuster,Inc,the author's website, and My Book Addiction and More.
3.5 stars. In the midst of snowy Michigan, cop Micayla "Mick" Lange is housesitting at "Uncle" Nicco's mansion on New Years Eve. She arrived a day early after learning her boyfriend was cheating. She hears noises coming from Nicco's private office. Checking it out, she interrupts two thieves who are making off with suitcases of money. While attempting to subdue one of the men, she sees pictures of her uncle murdering a city councilman and his family. As security guards race into the house, the thief Jason takes her as a hostage. She is so stunned by the photos and afraid for her own life that she helps Jason get away. As security guards and their reinforcements give chase, Mick and Jason form an alliance over the next few hours. Once Nicco finds out the pictures have been seen, mouths will have to be shut.
The book is a good romantic suspense with a long chase, quick romance, and lots of bullets flying. Turns out that thief Jason has a unique background.
A great beach read, or Christmas vacation read in this case.
Loved - The main male character and his partners in crime (what little we see of them), the slightly pg romance scenes, the authors descriptions (weather/location/experiences), and the way everything came together at the end (sort of).
Not so much... - The lack of common sense/insight/street smarts from the main female lead, and the canyon sized holes in the plot
I made it to the end by skipping a lot of the book. Needless to say I am not impressed by this author. I was just a little desperate to have something to read.
