Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad’s lap at the age of three and got a pilot’s license before she got a driver’s license. At age fifteen, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.
After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift and the “C-5” Galaxy, the world’s largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to forty countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, she got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime’s worth of war stories.
Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001.
Another great installment of Cindy's Hot Watch series. The heroine Jennifer Blackfoot has been a secondary character in several of the other books in the series and I'm glad she finally got her own story. The characters are strong, smart and well motivated. The action is fast and the plot kept me guessing until the end. As usual Cindy left me wanting more.
I've read the entire H.O.T. Watch series and most of Cindy Dees' works. In the past I've enjoyed her stories and her writing style. The H.O.T. Watch characters have been strong characters - firm in their beliefs, honorable, well rounded, and well written. This book sadly was not up to Ms. Dees normal standards.
In past books, Jennifer Blackfoot was shown to be a tough character, confident in her role as leader of the civilian side of H.O.T. Watch. To reach that level of success, she had to be a tough, experienced operator. A "take no prisoners" attitude and strong professionalism would be mandates for the job. We see none of that here. From the beginning, she abandons her training to be ruled by lust and her attraction.
Jeff Winston is a larger than life character, literally. He's just too good to be true. Yes, scientific discoveries and the endless possibilities they bring to our future are a moral and ethical quagmire that even in "real life" our society struggles with. Those struggles are lightly pushed aside in this tale, again to be overruled by lust and hormones.
Even established character Brady Hathaway easily throws away decades of training, professionalism, and common sense in this tale. The ending seemed far too contrived and rushed.
Did I enjoy the H.O.T Watch series? Yes. Was I sad to see it end? Yes and no. I just wish it had ended with the same quality the previous stories provided. Will I continue to read Ms. Dees? Absolutely.
Very good book. Jennifer wasn't sure what was going on with the guy she rescued. She first had to deal with his medical issues, then his assertion that HOT Watch had been compromised. She didn't want to believe it, but the evidence was clear. Jeff couldn't believe his instant attraction to Jennifer. He had to try to ignore it in order to deal with the security threat and convince Jennifer that she couldn't do it without him. He also had to decide if he could share all his secrets with her. I really liked his confidence that he could handle anything that they came up against, and also that he had no problem with Jennifer taking over when she was the one with the better options. Jennifer had some trust issues to deal with, and was reluctant to believe Jeff at first, but was able to make the jump when needed. I'm sad to see the end of the HOT Watch series, but I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
Cindy always delivers a pulse pounding read! This may be the end of H.O.T. Watch but with Jeff Winston and his team, this would make a great beginning to a new series.
Intriguing story. I liked the story it didn't wow me; I really liked how the female lead, had to make a choice for the male lead and how she struggled with the situation.
