STILL LOOKING FOR STOCKING STUFFERS?

Know some family or friends for whom a book would be just perfect but paperback is too expensive or they prefer ebook? Amazon now has a new feature called Send as Gift that is apparently only for ebooks. Go to the product page for the ebook you want to gift and select the Send as Gift button. It will open a new window with an easy-to-fill-out form that will allow you to send an ebook as a gift to anyone in the U.S. with an email address. You can even include an optional message if you want.

Speaking of ebooks as stocking stuffers, Hannah Alexander is happy to announce that Sacred Trust, Solemn Oath, and Second Opinion have all been chosen as Amazon Limited Time deals. These ebooks are now half-price at only $2.49 each.

To go to Sacred Trust, click bit.ly/3VlifSE; for Solemn Oath, click bit.ly/4p8yHC1; and for Second Opinion, click bit.ly/4bhCvKo. But don't wait, because, as Amazon states, this is a limited time deal.

Merry Christmas and God bless you.

Dr. Megan Bradley flees Corpus Christi and the rescue mission clinic at which she works to a small cabin in Missouri after her homeless patient is murdered right before her eyes. Even though it’s a tragedy that brings her home, the timing of her return is excellent. Megan’s old friend Kirstie may be in danger and needs her help. Megan is shocked when Gerard Vance, an ex-cop who runs the clinic, shows up in Jolly Mill, Missouri and also agrees to assist Kirstie. Megan agrees to work with him to see if someone is trying to harm Kirstie, but fights to resist her attraction to Gerard. It seems the tragedy that claimed a young mother’s life in Texas has Megan rethinking her own life and her faith, which could end up costing her a chance at happiness with the man she loves.

Megan and Gerard are a good match, but Megan is experiencing a crisis in her faith and feels she would not be a good partner for the devout Gerard feeling the way she does. Kirstie, Gerard, and Megan discuss their faith throughout the book, but their faith is an important part of who the characters are and how they live their lives. This is to be expected in a Christian inspirational novel, but the book never comes across as “preachy.”

While the book doesn’t seem to be part of a series, when the book began, I felt like I was coming in to the middle of the story. The patient’s murder was related to issues the clinic was having, but that was all talked about in the past and wasn’t compelling. There are several storylines and subplots to follow in this book and there many old skeletons, such as old boyfriends and family scandals, that come up and are still playing a part in the characters’ lives today. Again, much of this is given as background and isn’t experienced in the book.

I like the three main characters of Megan, Gerard, and Kirstie. They are all three kind, compassionate, and want the best for those they care about. I don’t understand Megan’s friend and Kirstie’s daughter Lynley. She is also supposed to be a good person, but seems spoiled and immature to me, dwelling over past jealousies from childhood instead of supporting her friend and mother. We don’t get to know any of the characters in depth, so that may be why I wasn’t able to connect with Lynley. Early in the book, we learn Megan and her mother don’t get along. However, one quick phone conversation seems to solve what were apparently years of problems between the mother and daughter. This seemed forced and unrealistic.

The book is suspenseful, and while there is a lot of build-up regarding the danger Kirstie is in, the resolution at the end seems rushed. The romance between Megan and Gerard and the strong friendship between Megan and Kirstie make this an enjoyable book if you are looking for some light reading. Details about the potential danger Kirstie is in could spoil the suspense, but it is an interesting plot that is suspenseful. While I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I have other books by Hannah Alexander, which is the pen name of a husband and wife writing team, it’s still an enjoyable book. Readers who like the inspirational suspense novels by Marta Perry may enjoy this story. There are discussion questions at the end that would be good for book clubs.

This review originally appeared in The Season EZine. The book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review. (Rating 3 1/2 stars)

This is DNF after 3 chapters.
NEO schmeo on her vehicle.
Gerard comes across as creepy .. with his arrival and plans.
The reviews don’t sound like this will get enough better for me to even skip read.
Another poor LIS offering it seems.

This book was quite different from the usual heroine in danger and running for her life story that Love Inspired Suspense often provides. I do enjoy those types of books, but this one was a refreshing change.

There was more mystery than suspense, but with a psychological thriller feel. The story was captivating. Although it was possible to guess who was behind some of the problems, I was never quite sure and the motive wasn't clear until the end. The characters were well-developed and had emotional and spiritual depth.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for more books by Hannah Alexander.

More like a solid 3.5 stars. It was a suspense/romance story. It was clean and no language. Not super deep. The author’s desire was to shine light on the homeless problem and show that there are people who have made it their life’s work to try to give a hand up versus a hand out and maybe challenge people to get involved . It was worth. my time to read it

Story with a lot of emotion

I liked the heart and struggle that Megan had. Gerard was a steady rock through it all. But what was most interesting was the secrets in Megan's small town. Intense story.

Liked the relationship between H/h how it organically developed from their interaction I the mission.
But very dialogue-heavy, lots of side characters and big gaps in the flow.
Did not enjoy it.

Dr. Megan Bradley has witnessed a murder & had to perform a post mortem C-section on the victim to save her baby. Unable to deal with the whole trauma, Megan flees the rescue mission clinic at Corpus Christi to her hometown Jolly Mill to give herself time to heal – because of course, Jolly Mill is a safe place to be, nothing dangerous ever happens there!

It also gives her the time to focus on her friends. Her best friend Lynley is beside herself as her mother, Kirstie, suffers from constant blackouts and disappears frequently. Kirstie has been diagnosed with Alzhiemer’s but neither she or Lynley are convinced of the diagnosis. Kirstie wants Megan to look into it.

Gerard Vance follows Megan to Jolly Mill. He knows she won’t tell anyone what she saw. He also knows that she will be struggling to deal with it on her own. He’s come as her support, but also to prove his love & God’s love for her. As an ex-cop he is also a helpful ally to Megan as they try to figure out who is targeting her friends.

The mystery surrounding Kirstie drew me in deeper as I tried to figure out what was going on, & I enjoyed the story. Mention is made of things that have already happened to Megan & her friend Tess at Corpus Christi in Season of Danger: Silent Night, Deadly Night\Mistletoe Mayhem – a book I haven’t read, but think it would have been helpful to have read first, as I did get a bit confused in places.

I’ve read many of Hannah Alexander’s books and have loved them all. This book Eye of the Storm is another suspenseful book that is full of twists and turns and unexpected ending. The only thing wrong with this book is that I wish it were longer, only because it is so good.
The love story between Gerard and Megan is really sweet. Even though Megan tried to escape the love Gerard shared with her, she was finding out things about life and love that only can come from the true source of love-God. Will Megan fully trust and what was the horrible crime she witnessed and can’t quit reliving?
Also a mother-type friend of Megan’s is having trouble with wandering off and forgetting things. Is she getting a horrible disease or is something sinister a foot? I really love a good mystery, full of suspense and Eye of the Storm is just that. Each and every one of Hannah Alexander’s novels are different and unique and I have loved every one.
I highly recommend this fantastic book that deserves 5 stars. Eye of the Storm will grip you and not let you go until you finish and then you will keep thinking of the wonderful story and interesting characters.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS - I know I am supposed to "hide" this, but the book is impossible to critique otherwise.

The author is an award winning writer. She must have "phoned in" this one. In 278 pages, nothing really happens. The two protagonists have nothing happen TO them, though they do solve a mystery for two others. The two issues which always happen in there "love inspired suspense" novels - how will one or the other or both find each other and God just sort of resolve themselves without any real drama or adequate explanation. There are two "killers" in the book. One we know from the beginning and one we know from abut 2/3 of the way trough the book so there is no real mystery at all. One of the killers acted in self-defense, so is not a real "killer" at all. and the reasons for this person not speaking up about what happened were pretty contrived.

I have been reading these novels for a longtime, and this was the worst of the lot.

I liked the setting as it talks of rescue missions and the people willing to sacrifice their time to help others. It shows love and how they all worked together to help those in need. The action and suspense was captivating... loved trying to guess what was causing Kirstie's health issues, can't wait for more!! And of course, the romance always keeps it interesting...

Very strong story. The thing I liked most it wasn't preachy and it had a steady flow. Megan and Gerard were well-developed and multifaceted characters. The secondary characters were strong also. I want to read more from this husband-wife writing team.

For a suspense novel, this was distinctlty lackluster. There was very little action, aside from Kirstie's blackouts - and those got a bit repetitive after a while. While I like Megan and Gerard as a couple, the final wrap-up that brought them together was way too convenient.

A good book. It was hard at times to stay with the story it seem to jump from first one person to another. That made the story hard to follow at the beginning.
