I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.

Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.

After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.

Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.

I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.

I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.

Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

I love to hear from readers. You can reach me at my email address, raeannethayne@gmail.com

Well. I hope this was just the wrong one to start with in this ongoing series. Not that I felt like I was coming in the middle of things. I was, but it was a very light touch and I didn't feel I was missing anything, really. It's just that the main characters in this one didn't engage me at all.

The thing is that I really and truly hated their shared backstory. I mean, I usually like second chance stories but this one just didn't do it for me. The first few chapters I was worried that Thayne was going to keep it buried for drama, but we find out soon enough that their engagement broke off before because Taft was a weak idiot and Laura was a weak moron. I couldn't find it in me to sympathize with either him for shutting down in his grief or her for leaving because it was too hard. Since both essentially betrayed their "love" I found it beyond hard to buy that said "love" had persisted in the intervening years. Sorry, but neither showed love in actual action and both were idiots. And weak.

But the real failure was in not showing adequately that what they were building now was in any way stronger than before. And failing to do so meant I had a hard time buying that this time would be somehow better.

The only saving grace of the novel was Laura's kids. They were great and at least engaging enough for me not to regret the book in teh end.

Anyway, a low point in my enjoyment of Thayne. I hope the next is better...

By far the worst part of this book was the heroine. Everything she said I wanted to kick her in the head. I really don't understand the narrative of this book positioning her as sympathetic or the aggrieved party. I mean, is it just me:

I liked Taft, but he made me mad because he took all the blame for the past on himself and in my opinion he shouldn't have. He took all her unwarranted anger and the unearned barbs she threw at him, and all I wanted to do was yell at him to find someone worthy of his love. I didn't get why he felt anything for her.

And then in the end it skips over them reconnecting in any way. She pushes him away, is nasty to him, and does her best hurt him any way she can no matter how sweet he is, so there was never any of them getting to know the people they are now. But that all changes based on an over the top situation Cue my heavy sighs and eye rolls.

The character I liked most was little Maya. This was probably one of the best treatments of a kid with Downs Syndrome I've read. It wasn't continually brought up, she was treated as any other child. Though I didn't like the couple of times Laura referred to her as "fragile" and "vulnerable", but like I said, everything she said made me want to harm her. Especially after she used it as a reason to tear into Taft when he was going on about how adorable and lovable Maya is. "Don't you pity her!" Uh, he wasn't. He was loving her. Idiot.

I really wish the backstory between Taft and Laura had been different and she hadn't been so awful. I liked the rest of the book enough to have wanted to like the story.

A couple overcomes past hurts and begins to trust in love again in this touching and tender contemporary romance.

Taft Bowman and Laura Pendleton had been engaged when they were younger, but tragedy hit Taft's family, and he pulled away from the people who loved him, including Laura. Hurt by Taft's seeming rejection, Laura broke the engagement, moved away, and started a new life. Ten years later, Laura is a widow with two children when she moves home to Cold Creek to help her mom with running a local hotel. Their relationship may have ended ten years earlier, but Taft and Laura still have chemistry. They will have to overcome past hurts and decide if they have a future together.

This story is very touching, for a variety of reasons. I felt for Taft, when his engagement to Laura ended, he was in a bad place emotionally. His parents had been killed, and he didn't know how to handle feelings of grief and guilt. Like many people often do, he tried to ignore the feelings and withdrew from his loved ones. Laura felt betrayed, and I understand why she ended the relationship. As Taft and Laura begin to talk again, I felt that Laura really gave him a hard time. I wanted her to move forward, because Taft proves over and over that he is a good man.

While the romance is sweet, the story is also realistic. Laura responds to her past hurts in a very true manner. I believe the romance in the story. Also, this story is very clean. For readers who don't like steamy scenes, this is a great book for you. The romance and the attraction is there, but the steamy scenes are left out. In this case, the steamy scenes are completely unnecessary.

I really enjoyed reading A Cold Creek Reunion, I found myself smiling though out the book and I was left feeling happy and satisfied with how the story turned out. I believe romance readers will also enjoy reading this book, so I recommend A Cold Creek reunion to readers who enjoy contemporary, clean romantic books.

This book was ok. I enjoyed the Eastern Idaho small ranching town setting. It was very chaste and tedious and has no sex. 0 stars for chastity. 👎

I liked this book, although not as well as others by her. Taft and Laura were engaged, but when his parents were murdered and he found them, he withdrew from everyone. Laura tried to help, and asked him about postponing the wedding. But when he said no, she canceled it and moved to Europe. She eventually got married and had 2 kids; her husband died in a boating accident, with his latest mistress. So she goes back home to help her mother with her Inn. When she and Taft meet again, she’s short with him, not wanting anything to do with him, since she blames him for their breakup. He, still loving her, keeps trying but she keeps saying no. It takes her kids almost drowning and Taft saving them for her to admit that she still loves him too.

Second Chance Romance

This is a heart touching clean romance story. Laura Pendleton left Pine Gulch and Taft Bowman, the man she was to marry. Laura ended up on Madrid, married Javier Santiago, and had two children. After her husband died, Laura and her children moved to Pine Gulch. Taft, the town's battalion chief of the volunteer fire department, saw Laura the first time in ten years after the VFD was called out to extinguish a fire. Soon after being around Laura and her children Alex and Maya, a child with Down syndrome, Taft fell in Love with all three of them. Taft treated Alex and Maya as if they were his own. Everything wasn't smooth sailing, but the end was something very special.

Laura left Cold Creek 2 weeks before her wedding to Taft. Now she's back in town with her two children and helping her mom run the bed and breakfast. Taft is running his ranch and the chief of the local fire and rescue department. They have both grown and matured and are slowly rekindling their love. Both are worried and scared . Part of the Cowboys of Cold creek series, #10.

I was angry with the heroine most of the time. A little with the hero at the beginning. So much useless hurt and painful denial.
I know RaeAnne Thayne can do much better.
Actually I want to read the other 3 Bowman siblings stories.

Taft Bowman had a girlfriend in high school who left him behind. Now Laura Pendleton is home with two adorable children and he is going to convince her that he is there for her. What a great story in bringing them together and the children are adorable.

Loved this story.

Taft and Laura both grew up so much with the decade since they had last seen each other. Laura had been married and has two beautiful children. Taft was the fire chief of the small town that they once fell in love in. The love they once shared would always be there. Taft was no longer the boy she once knew. He was great with her children and he still loved her just as much as always. Could they get past the horrid details that tore them apart in the first place. This read was well written and so sweet and caring.

So I’ve decided you might as well add “Small town life,” and “ranch cowboys” to my list of books I apparently gravitate towards. When I look at the scope of books I like to read, it gets broader every day. I mean, one day I’m reading about ships and pirates, another day I’m in the London Ton, the next I’m chasing down vampires, and then I’ll finish it off riding a horse. Such is the way of a book lover!

A Cold Creek Reunion has actually been sitting in my iPhone for a while. It’s a book I got from NetGalley, and while I try my best to be pretty time sensitive when I get a book from them, this particular one has continued to be pushed back to another time. I mean, it’s a Romance, so it’s a winner from the start, however the story line has been done (which obviously doesn’t bother me, since I DID request the book – right?), but I think I have to be in the moment that I feel like reading that particular kind of book. It doesn’t always happen that way, but apparently this one was one of those kinds of books.

And I must really have been in the mood, because I read two books back-to-back with extremely similar plots. Small town life, runaway bride returns home, old flame flares. It’s obviously a very frequently done plot, in all of its varieties. Like I said, I choose this (these) books, so I’m not knocking the over done plot here – but I’m pretty sure I’ve read 3 or 4 more that have the same basic outline. Thankfully, author creativity makes them not precisely the same book. Anyhow, reading two of these books back-to-back has helped me to really appreciate the value of a good writer. I am not going to name the other book I read, because…well, just because; but let’s just say that the other book was “less than” A Cold Creek Reunion, as far as stories go. While reading the other book I thought, this is a nice story. I’m enjoying it. Of course I love the way the story plays out, the idea around a rekindled romance. But it was just okay. Reading A Cold Creek Reunion in comparison was almost like night and day. I really got to know and enjoy the characters. I loved the town and the people in it. I could envision the story playing out in my head, it became much more than just words on a page. There was life and meaning in there.

Now, if I could tell you what the differences are as far as writing technique, details, etc., I would. I wish I could tell you why one book was just okay and the other evoked such a response that in the end I actually had tears of happiness. Maybe I was just having a sappy day? Or maybe with A Cold Creek Reunion, I had more time to really focus on the story where as the other book I was constantly being interrupted by one or three kids. Those are very distinct possibilities, but I truly believe there is a reason behind why one captured my attention so greatly and the other just merely entertained.

This book had a lot of potential and while it was pretty good and did keep me reading it, it just didn't seem to quite deliver all I was hoping for.

Laura and Taft had been engaged once--ten years earlier, when both were probably too young to truly make such a decision. Taft, two years older, had been Laura's crush since seventh grade. They were good friends until they were both out of school, when they became more.

Six months before their planned wedding, Taft's family suffered a major trauma. Everyone deals with devastating grief in their own way, and Taft's way was to pretend everything was fine on the surface (of course the wedding should go on as planned! No need to postpone!) while pushing everyone close to him away--including Laura, of course--and drowning his sorrows at the local bar. Just before the wedding, Laura left him, running off to Madrid. By the time Taft finally had his act together, Laura had already married someone else.

Fast forward ten years--Laura's lying, cheating, scum of a husband is dead and she's brought her two children back home to help her mother run the family inn. Taft, now the fire chief, is temporarily staying at the inn in exchange for free carpentry work (his rental agreement is up on his apartment, but the house he's building isn't quite ready yet.) The two are constantly thrown together, and of course Laura's children are just as charmed by Taft as he is with them. All is good, right? They just have to let go of the past and agree to go forward, then?

And after some initial "we're going to avoid each other like the plague" moments, it seems like they're going to. Taft and Laura talk. They admit they were too young and hadn't dealt with the situation as well as they should have. Except wait--no, Laura's still going to blame Taft for being a player, even though he hasn't done a single thing since she's been back to hold up that theory. Ah, and then she's going to hold up the "I can't let my kids get too involved, they've already been disappointed by their father" card. Argh. What could have been a nice, sweet story of love redeemed becomes a bit confused as Laura seemingly takes ten giant steps back in their relationship for no apparent reason other than her sudden fear that Taft will turn out to be just like her dead husband. What followed was pretty frustrating to read for a while, since her digging in of her heels just didn't make much sense to me. She finally comes around--VERY quickly--and we have the expected HEA. It just seemed like it could have happened about fifty pages earlier, to be honest--less painful for everyone involved.

Laura is a woman who left town ten years ago because her fiancé couldn’t/wouldn’t let her in. He wouldn’t share his overwhelming grief over the murder of his parents. I did and didn’t like Laura. I could see postponing the wedding. But canceling and then leaving the country? Yes, she was young when she left. Now let’s jump to ten years later. She’s back in town after a tragedy in her life. Laura returns home to her mother along with her two children. She’s grown in some ways and not in others. I got aggravated with her continuing to call Taft out on being a player. Um, not for a while now and she was out of the country and married! I’m not saying the failure of the engagement wasn’t on both shoulders, just that she is the one who called it off and left. I did sympathize with Laura. Taft is the love of her life and she felt left and rejected even before she left. The things she has to deal with after her return to the States wasn’t easy and to deal with the past and past hurts didn’t help. Laura tries to avoid Taft at all costs. Needless to say that doesn’t work. She resists him and he keeps pursuing, until he figures there’s no hope.

Taft is really a great guy that has been through hell in his life. His parents were murdered and he didn’t know how to deal with it other than to act tough and pretend it didn’t affect him. Of course that just ate him up from the inside out and changed who he was. In the end he lost Laura before he found himself again. Taft goes through ten years without her or commitment to anyone else. When Laura returns home and he runs into her again he’s poleaxed. It doesn’t take him long to realize he still loves her and has fallen for her children. He does everything he can to convince her that he will never hurt her again. He shares himself/his feelings and admits what he did wrong in the past. Taft can’t figure out how to convince Laura he isn’t really a player. He puts himself out there until he thinks it’ll never work. This is when tragedy strikes again forcing Laura to rethink her views and face the fact that she still does and always has loved Taft. The question is what she will do about it.

This was a pretty good read. It’s a romance that’s paced a bit slow, but that wasn’t a bad thing in this case. I liked that there wasn’t someone in danger, being chased or on someone’s “hit list”. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a sweet romance or easy/relaxing read.

Cold Creek Reunion The Cowboys at Cold Creek BY RaeAnne Thayne

Taft Bowman is the local fire department chief and when he and his crew showed up to put out the fire at the local hotel he was surprised to see Laura Santiago there.
She had left the town and her wedding a week before it was to happen, to Taft ten years ago, she married Javier and she was back in town cuz he had died and she had no money left and she could help
her mom at the hotel at the same time as she was getting on in years.
They are now friends and Laura is invited to the ranch to visit with Caidy, Taft's sister and the kids love the animals there to play with and to pet.
Taft shows up for a horseback ride so they get to spend more time together.
He is living at the inn while he does some carpentry work, after the fire for them for room and board for a while.
Typical small town life: fires, drownings, BBQ's, horseback riding into the mountains, peaceful scenery, running an inn,

Short story: Anniversary is also included and it's written by many authors.
Abby and Melissa are throwing their parents an anniversary party but they think it's just a get together.
Mother Diana is so worried one of her daughters is breaking up and that the other is pregnant and she loves the drama but she's got it all wrong, as usual.
The theme is Italian as that is where her parents had first honeymooned at as they talk about things that happened on the trip the first time they were in Italy.
There are other gifts in store for them all.

Ten years ago Taft Bowman and Laura Pendleton were engaged. But Taft, grieving over his murdered parents, shut down emotionally. When Laura couldn’t persuade him to share his sorrow with her or to postpone the wedding until he had moved beyond the early stages of grief, she broke off the engagement a week before the wedding. Soon afterwards, Laura left for Spain where she married and gave birth to two children. Now her husband Javier is dead, and the debts he left and the cost of living in Spain have forced Laura to return to her hometown to help her mother with Cold Creek Inn.

Taft, now the town’s fire chief, is in the midst of a training session with his crew when a call comes in that Cold Creek Inn is on fire. Although the danger in an old wooden structure is great, the fire is contained in a single room. Looking for Mrs. Pendleton to confer with her, Taft sees Laura. Their meeting is awkward, and it’s not made any easier when it becomes clear that Laura’s son started the fire when he accidentally set curtains on fire when he was playing with a lighter. With all its complications, that first meeting is enough to set Taft thinking about second chances, but can he persuade the wary Laura to listen to his words and her own heart?

Reunited lovers is a favorite trope for me, and I liked these characters, including the kids. My only quibble is that I would have liked to see the story more fully developed. The resolution seems to happen very quickly. But I think that’s a common complaint when I read category romances. All in all, this is a solid story.

A Cold Creek Reunion by Raeanne Thayne is the first novel I’ve read of this author. I have to say this story was an enjoyable reading for me.

Taft Bowman is chief of the fire department, while his twin brother Trace is the chief of the police department. Taft was engaged ten years ago with this high school sweetheart Laura Pendleton, but a week before their wedding she broke the engagement and left town. Now Laura is back with her two children and Taft is trying real hard to stay away from them. But he knows this will be impossible, because his feelings for Laura are still there.

Laura Pendleton was broken when she had to call off the wedding years ago, but she didn’t have any choice since Taft wouldn’t postpone their wedding and take care of himself first. Now she is back in town with her two children and wants to start over, that means stay away from Taft. But it seems harder to do when her children decide to adopt Taft in their lives.

Raeanne Thayne has written a great entertaining novel, where you see how two soul mates find each other again after years. I love the fact that Taft accept Laura’s children from the start ad didn’t tread them differently because they were from another man in Laura’s life. But I have to be honest that I thought this novel was a little too soft for me, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good, I just prefer a little more action and romance in a book.

I was given this eBook to read in exchange of an honest review from NetGalley.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.

This is the second novel I've read by RaeAnne Thayne. Thayne does a good job of presenting tender love stories. A Cold Creek Reunion centers around Taft and Laura, who were high school sweethearts who broke off their engagmenet at the last minute. Following her lost love with Taft, Laura meets and marries a man in Spain and has two children. When her husband dies, she returns home and falls back in love with Taft, who is now the local fire chief.

Overall, this was a sweet love story of soulmates reuniting. I greatly admired that Thayne portrayed Laura's daughter as having Down's Syndrome. Additionally, I liked that Laura and Taft reunite as mature adults and recognize that all their years apart allowed them to grow into themselves and become ready to be with one another. Additionally, I enjoyed how important Laura's children were to Taft and that they were both committed to creating a family and not just a couple.

This novel was a bit too pg rated for my liking, and several of the characters and relationships were rather flat. I also didn't like how Taft had to repeatedly save Laura's children from disasters because it made Laura seem like an inattentive mother.

Overall a sweet and fairly realistic love story of two adults who rekindle an old flame.

Cold Creek is a nice sweet story. I enjoyed reading.
Taft Bowman is the fire chief for Cold Creek. His twin brother is the chief of police. Taft is building his own house on five acres. Taft is single and playine the field. But 10 years ago he was engaged to marry Laura Pendleton until she dumped him a week before the wedding and left the country.
Laura was engaged to Taft but since he would not postpone the wedding and change she called it off. She went to work at a hotel in Spain. Two years later she got pregnant with Alex and married Javier the father. Then she had Maya who has Down Syndrome. Seven months after her husband death she came home to Cold Creek.
Thier is a fire at the motel that Alex started accidently. After it was out Taft went to talk to Mrs Pendleton the owner. Taft got a big surprise when he saw Laura their.
I really like Maya and Alex, what charming kids. I would like to read more about the Bowman family.
