Welcome to Destiny #5

Having Adam's Baby

Rate this book
There was absolutely nothing wrong with widowed florist Fay Coggen seeking a new lease on life. Just not in Adam Murphy's arms. But the night her late husband's best friend returned from his tour of duty overseas, Fay went from recrimination to tenderness in a heartbeat. When their mutual solace morphed into passion, it was destiny. As was the fact that she was now pregnant with Adam's child.

The walls Adam had built around his heart as a soldier came tumbling down when he went calling on Fay. Comforting her was one thing; but it hadn't stopped there. Now he was going to be a father. He'd crossed the line. So why did it feel so right?

Thanks to an aunt’s love of genealogy, Christyne discovered both Louisa May Alcott and Harriet Beecher Stowe are members in her extended family tree on her mother’s side, so she firmly believes her love of writing has always been her destiny.

Her father served in the Air Force for twenty years which resulted in her birth in Taipei, Taiwan and she spent her youth growing up all over the world before her family settled in New Hampshire in time for her to attend high school. She followed in her family’s rich military history and joined the United States Navy where she fell in love with romance novels after someone remembered women were serving aboard seagoing vessels and sent a box full of paperback romances to her ship, the USS VULCAN AR-5.

She started pursuing her own writing in 2002, sold her first ever ‘finished’ manuscript in 2006 and made her first sale to Harlequin Special Edition two years later! She writes contemporary romances full of life, love, a hint of laughter and perhaps a dash of danger too. Christyne loves the challenge of the boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl-back and the journey of joy and hardship two people go through. And there has to be a ‘happily ever after’ or she’s just not satisfied.

When she’s not writing, she can be found hunting for treasures at yard sales and antique fairs to add to her collection of memorabilia of women who served in the military, watching classic romantic movies and the great movie musicals of the 40′s and 50′s, and reading books by her favorite authors.

She lives in central Massachusetts with her family, a four-footed double-pawed black cat who rules the house and a shelter-saved pup named Harley (short for Harlequin) who really thinks he’s a cat too!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, Fay is the florist in Destiny and lost her husband eighteen months ago so she not only had to deal with grief but the fact that her marriage of fifteen years was filled with lies and that her husband left gambling debts and destroyed the family company. She needed to blame someone so she blamed Adam, her husband's best friend because she felt it was because of Adam her husband joined the airforce and died.

Now, she has just learnt that she is pregnant. She and Adam spent a night together two months ago when she went to him to vent out her anger and grief. The news shocks her since she always wanted kids but was told her chances of conceiving were less and her husband refused to get tested.

Adam also comes back home, this time for good, hoping to start a ranch. I loved meeting his family, the Murphy brothers were great and Adam is pleased to hear about the pregnancy and not aware of the financial trouble Fay went through.

To him the baby is precious since his ex-wife mis-carried a baby she never wanted and had every intention of getting an abortion but Adam blamed himself a little bit and is scared and excited. He likes Fay, always has since he met her in high-school but his best friend got to her first and when Scott joined the air-force they stopped being friends since she thought he put that idea in his head, when he didn't, he was busy dealing with the mess of his marriage.

We don't see too many glimpses into Adam's marriage but we do get the sense that Fay has not always had that much in the way of support, her parents and brothers were always patronizing, in-laws didn't like her and she and Scott had grown apart.

I liked how Fay is quick to acknowledge that Adam is not to blame for what happened and is not one of those prideful people who refuses help when it is needed, so when the doctor tells her to rest she moves in with him and even makes a move on him when despite kisses he stopped.

Adam allows her to make her own choices and his family just absorbs her. I liked the tenderness Adam showed her and how he was patient with Fay, realizing that she had been through a lot. The way he gifted her a truck and rationalized it to her was great and showed his concern.

And I also liked the interaction between Adam and his brother Dev. Dev ribs Adam about how he made a mess of proposing to her not once but twice. I found them falling for each other quite natural. I liked how Adam was not one of those macho men who refuse to admit they have a problem instead he went to seek help for the flashbacks he had been having.

A pretty good book and I can't wait for more Murphy brothers especially Dev.

Very good book. It was easy to see how hard things had been since Fay's husband's death and finding out what a mess he'd left behind. When she took out her pain on Adam, then gave in to the feelings she'd had for him a long time ago, she wasn't expecting to become pregnant. When Adam arrived home after his last tour of duty and saw her again, he knew he wanted her again. He had to overcome her issues, plus deal with the surprise of the baby and some PTSD. I loved seeing that they were able to communicate with each other. It was also great seeing Adam as him got used to the idea of being a father. I love the Murphy family and look forward to seeing more stories about them.

It was a good emotional second chance at love story, adored Adam such a warm caring understanding wonderful man,Fay she was also a sweet character, both had lost so much and were lonely, fate gave them another chance at happiness which inspite of few hurdles they managed to get their HEA.

Adam's family was a adorable close knit family, looking forward to read Dev's book.

Fay Coggen is a widow who is ready to move past the death of her husband, just not in the arms of Adam Murphy, the man she has blamed for her husband's death. But a moment of weakness when she went to confront him and now she is expecting his baby.

Adam has built a wall around his heart after accompanying comrade after comrade back home for burial. He finds out about Fay's pregnancy and wants to do the right thing. He has secretly loved her for a long time but she wants none of that.

He wants to be included in the decisions about his child but Fay is very stubborn and makes compromise almost impossible. As he tries his best to take care of her, she begins to soften in her feelings for him. But, she is determined not to fall for him and would rather hold on to old misconceptions about Adam.

Fay did get tiresome after a while with the same old same old...distancing herself from Adam and holding anger where it is undeserved. Other than that it was a very good story.

All in all this is a very good read and I recommend you add it to your library.

I finished this story and woke up the next morning still thinking about it. I love the passion of the characters, the way they struggle with decisions and circumstances of the past, and how that propels the tension between them. Adam wants to do the right thing, not just because he's that kind of guy, but because of the way he feels about Fay. She suffers from the same affliction, but is more haunted by the past. They way in which Christyne Butler weaves the past with the present, and hope for the future, keeps this story moving and keeps the reader engaged. I'd have liked Fay and Adam to have resolved the "blame" a little more - with Adam explaining that he didn't talk her late husband into joining the AF - that he had approached Adam about it, but I realize the author only has a certain amount of space to get the story in. These are believable characters with a very real story. And of course, a happily ever after!!

I just love Christyne Butler's Destiny series. Having Adam's Baby was no exception. Sergeant Major, Adam Murphy returns home to Destiny Wyoming, planning to retire and start ranching. Instead of going into the family business, Murphy Mountain Log Homes, when he returns home he finds his friend Fay Coggen, the wife of his deacesed friend and fellow soldier, Scott Coggen is pregnant with his child after one passionate night together.I adored the Murphy family. Can't wait for more of them. Another, easy, fast paced read with a little bit of drama.

This is a re-read for me. I pulled it off my shelf while my Kindle was charging. I can't believe I forgot to write a review.

I love this book.

It has just enough angst and plenty of sexual tension to keep me turning the pages.

I love a strong female lead, throw in a wounded soldier who has loved her forever AND a baby...I was hooked from page one.

Highly recommend.

I'd probably rate this actually a 2.5. Was really looking forward to this book because I loved Ms. Butler Cooper Fortune book. For me, Fay and Adam didn't connect. Or maybe I didn't connect with them. Whatever. It's only the end of the book that adds the .5 to the 2. Hope you enjoy it more.

The whole idea of story was obvious on the first few pages of book but it is still interesting to read cliche love story to be depicted in other ways.
